Foster the People slow things down on ‘Imagination’

Foster the People are back and ready to give fans another new song.

On Friday (June 21), the California-founded band shared their new track, “Imagination.” The over-four-minute tune finds the group toning down the electronics of past and channeling heartbreak with its lyrics. Listen to “Imagination” above.

“Imagination” comes days after the group announced plans to release a new song by week’s end. They took to social media to share a snippet of the song with the words “Just you in my imagination,” a lyric from the track.

To coincide with the new song’s release, the band launched their “Imagination” contest, where fans were encouraged to send in designs inspired by the song’s lyrics.

“We’ll pick some of our favorites to be featured as part of the artwork on Spotify, and one design will be used as a limited edition merch piece (where the designer will get a share of the profit),” the group tweeted.

“Imagination” is Foster the People’s third non-album track to be released. In March they dropped “Style,” and at the tail end of 2018, the group shared their chart-topping single “Worst Nites.” While the act has yet to announce a new album, we’re sure that all three tracks will find a home on the act’s fourth studio effort.

Foster the People’s last studio album was 2017’s Sacred Hearts Club. Though the 12-track studio effort was met with mostly mixed reviews, it peaked at the number 47 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and the number eight spot on the Billboard Top Alternative albums chart.

Sacred Heart Club features two alternative radio hits, “Sit Next to Me” and “Doing it for the Money.”
