Watch Foster the People hit up sketchy alleyways in ‘Pick U Up’

The week is officially coming to an end and Foster the People are celebrating by releasing a brand new music video.

On Friday (Oct. 4), the Los Angeles-founded act shared the three-and-a-half-minute clip for their latest single “Pick U Up.”

The music video begins with a guy playing Mahjong with a group of older gentlemen on a sidewalk in front of what looks like a Chinese restaurant or bodega. After winning the game, the older gentlemen begin to accuse him of cheating when he takes off running, away from his accusers with a bag of goods.

He makes his way across town to a sketchy alleyway where he knocks on a door only to be greeted by burly guys with tattoos. In a situation that could have ended badly for the guy, a woman luckily shows up, confirming to the tattooed bunch that he’s a friend.

The protagonist exchanges his Mahjong winnings for two silver briefcases which, we later find out, house two pairs of skates. As the video progresses, we watch the duo don the skates and show off some impressive moves to a bar full of customers.

A fan on Twitter made an observation about the new song stating that it sounds like it was inspired by Courtney Barnett.

“‘Pick U Up’ by Foster the People sounds like it’s Courtney Barnett inspired,” the fan posted on the social media site.

Well, Foster was quick to reply, confirming the fan’s theory.

“Good ear. I was thinking that as I was writing the second verse,” Foster admits.

“Something about the tonally spoken cadence. Love Courtney Barnett.”

“Pick U Up” follows a string of other non-album singles the group has released over the last year. Those tracks include “Imagination,” “Style,” and “Worst Nites.”

While fans have been asking non-stop about the status of the band’s follow-up to 2017’s Sacred Hearts Club (because that’s what fans do), Foster revealed that the group was going to do something different this year with their new tunes.

“We’re going to be dropping music every 6 weeks or so. Instead of dropping an album, we are doing something different this year; dropping singles, that’s the goal,” the singer said during a live chat.

Foster the People slow things down on ‘Imagination’

Foster the People are back and ready to give fans another new song.

On Friday (June 21), the California-founded band shared their new track, “Imagination.” The over-four-minute tune finds the group toning down the electronics of past and channeling heartbreak with its lyrics. Listen to “Imagination” above.

“Imagination” comes days after the group announced plans to release a new song by week’s end. They took to social media to share a snippet of the song with the words “Just you in my imagination,” a lyric from the track.

To coincide with the new song’s release, the band launched their “Imagination” contest, where fans were encouraged to send in designs inspired by the song’s lyrics.

“We’ll pick some of our favorites to be featured as part of the artwork on Spotify, and one design will be used as a limited edition merch piece (where the designer will get a share of the profit),” the group tweeted.

“Imagination” is Foster the People’s third non-album track to be released. In March they dropped “Style,” and at the tail end of 2018, the group shared their chart-topping single “Worst Nites.” While the act has yet to announce a new album, we’re sure that all three tracks will find a home on the act’s fourth studio effort.

Foster the People’s last studio album was 2017’s Sacred Hearts Club. Though the 12-track studio effort was met with mostly mixed reviews, it peaked at the number 47 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and the number eight spot on the Billboard Top Alternative albums chart.

Sacred Heart Club features two alternative radio hits, “Sit Next to Me” and “Doing it for the Money.”

Listen: Foster the People return in ‘Style’ with new tune

After teasing fans for most of the week, Foster the People are back with their brand new song. On Friday (March 22), the California-founded band shared the much-teased-about new song. Titled “Style” the almost four-minute tune finds the group doing what they do best; giving their audience four minutes of dancey music with a touch of snooty rock.

Listen to “Style” above.

Now that fans have been given the song, it looks like we may be getting a music video for “Style” relatively soon. Earlier this month, the group put out casting call for an undisclosed music video. “We need you! If you’re interested in being an extra in our next music video email [us],” the band’s social media post reads.

“Style” is Foster the People’s second non-album track to be released. Back in late 2018, the group debuted their chart-topping single “Worst Nites.” While the act has yet to announce a new album, both tracks could possibly find a home on their fourth studio album.

Blink-182, Coheed and Cambria, Jack White to headline Bunbury Music Festival 2018

Blink-182, Coheed and Cambria, and Jack White are just some of the bands who make their way to Ohio in early June for this year’s Bunbury Music Festival. On Friday (Jan. 26), the Cincinnati-based music festival unveiled its lengthy and rock band-centric lineup for the 2018 incarnation of the annual event.

Blink-182 spent most of last year on the road touring behind 2016’s release, California, as well as dropping music videos for as many of the record’s tracks as possible. Much like blink, Coheed and Cambria hit the road in the spring of 2017 where they performed their third studio album, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness, in its entirety at every show.

As for Jack White, Bunbury is another music festival that the musician will perform at during the summer months. Earlier this month, the former White Stripes frontman confirmed not only the release of his third studio album (Boarding House Reach), but also a lengthy tour which includes all his previously announced music festival appearances.

Joining blink-182, Coheed and Cambria, and White on the bill for the music festival’s seventh year will be Incubus, Royal Blood, Foster the People, Third Eye Blind, Dropkick Murphys, Young the Giant, The Front Bottoms, Peter Bjorn and John, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Fitz and the Tantrums, Misterwives, LANY, and many more.

“We are very excited about the lineup we’ve put together for 2018,” says PromoWest Productions’ Scott Stienecker in a press release. “The caliber, strength and depth of this year’s festival is attributed, in large part, to the city of Cincinnati and its continued support to make this one of the premier boutique musical festivals in the country.”

Tickets for the three-day music festival are currently available with three different ticket options to pick from. For more information, head on over to Bunbury’s website here.

Bunbury Music Festival 2018 is set to take place during the weekend of June 1-3 at the music festival’s usual location along the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati. As with previous years, the festival will encompass the entire area throughout Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove.

For now, the complete lineup for the 2018 incarnation of Bunbury Music Festival can be seen below.

Foster the People confirms new album, adds tour dates

Back in April, Foster the People confirmed their return to the music world when they unleashed their first new song in almost three years, “Doing it for the Money.” Instantly, the new song became an alternative radio station staple while no official name or release date was given for the new set of tunes. On Tuesday (June 13), the California-founded band confirmed that their third studio album will be titled Sacred Hearts Club and will see a release date of July 21.

In conjunction with the album announcement, the band also released a five-minute documentary following the guys as they prepare to hit the road. In addition to the behind-the-scenes footage, the “Sacred Hearts Club (the Beginning)” clip also gives the fans a little taste of what to expect from the upcoming record. Watch the five-minute clip above.

In support of Sacred Hearts Club, Foster the People has also added more North American tour stops for their current world tour which will all take place during the fall months. Last week, the band wrapped up the first leg of their tour and will once again hit the road in early July. Tickets for the newly added dates will go on sale beginning this Friday, June 16. The complete list of tour dates as well the track listing for the new album can be seen below.

Sacred Hearts Club will be the follow-up to the group’s sophomore effort, 2014’s Supermodel.

Fourth Annual Governors Ball Schedule Released

image

Houston, we have major problems and it looks like whoever the people were who planned the schedule for this year’s Governors Ball is to blame.

The Governors Ball, which already revealed it’s long list of high-profiled artists including Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Jack White, Skirllex, Foster the People, Discloure and many more have just unveiled its schedule and there may be a lot of conflicting acts that the audience would like to see.

Outkast and Damon Albarn will be closing out the night so that is probably the big issue on the first day. Honorable mentions include TV on the Radio or Grimes; Neko Case or La Roux; and Julian Casablancas or Jenny Lewis.
Saturday, the issues continue with audience member needing to pick between Jack White and Skrillex. (we’re bias, we’d go with Jack White especially since he follows The Strokes; their first festival show in three years and they never go out on tour or anything). Sadly, The Strokes will be  up against Childish Gambino. Honorable mentions for Saturday include Spoon or Sleigh Bells; Disclousre or Broken Bells; and Defheaven of Tanlines.

As for Sunday, there doesn’t seem to be any big conflicts except for Tyler, the Creator playing against AlunaGeorge and Banks playing opposite Wild Belle. No big since you will be able to see Vampire Weekend close out the entire weekend-long fest.

The schedule is currently not up until Friday on the official website for the festival, but you can go ahead and find over at the festival’s mobile app or Clashfinder

The Governors Ball is set to take place during the weened of June 6-8 at randall’s Island Park in New York City. Tickets are still available if you feel like taking a spontaneou trip to NYC and go to a festival.
