Watch Young the Giant outrun a rainy cloud in ‘Heat of the Summer’

If you’re currently in the middle of putting together your rocking Fourth of July playlist, may we suggest Young the Giant’s latest track? On Wednesday (July 3), the California-founded act released the music video for their latest single, “Heat of the Summer.”

The three-and-a-half-minute clip begins on a beach with the camera panning across the sand when it rests upon frontman Sameer Gadhia who has a permanent rain cloud hanging over his head (think Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh).

Throughout the video, we watch as Gadhia tries to find some kind of happiness through small interactions with other people who happen to be his fellow bandmates. We watch as he tries to put on some sunscreen (it ends up being a blob of white), smokes a joint (but things don’t go as planned), enjoys a tiki drink (can’t sign the receipt correctly), and attempts to eat an ice cream cone (it melts).

When he finally thinks he’s about to escape his rainy cloud, it just follows him before it consumes him. When Gadhia becomes one with the cloud, it seems to take him into another world, and all his previous troubles disappear.

“Heat of the Summer” joins previously released singles “Simplify,” “Call Me Back,” and “Superposition” on the group’s recently released record Mirror Master. The album, the band’s fourth studio effort, was released in October 2018. In a funny twist, the album peaked at the number 69 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

In support of Mirror Master, the band is currently on the road with labelmates Fitz and the Tantrums. Their co-headlining tour kicked off last month and included a sold-out show at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. At the time of publication, the tour’s stop at the Edgefield Amphitheater in Troutdale, Oregon was also categorized as sold out.

COIN and Alice Merton were confirmed as the two bands’ opening acts. COIN will play the role of supporting band during the July shows while Alice Merton will take over during the August shows.

Tonight, the musicians can be found at the Stir Concert Cove in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The full list of tour dates can be found here.
