After spending part of the week teasing fans with short footage snippets from their brand new music video, Twenty One Pilots have finally unleashed the full thing. On Wednesday (Jan. 23), the Ohio-founded act premiered the much-anticipated clip for their latest single, “Chlorine.”
The five-and-a-half-minute music video begins with the guys (frontman Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun) in a backyard filling up a dirty pool with water for no real reason at all. As they stand there watching water gather at the bottom of the vacant space, Joseph notices some noise coming from behind a beat-up truck door that’s just lying in the grass.
From behind the item comes a little, green alien-looking thing who goes by the name of Ned. Throughout the clip, Joseph and Dun (mostly Dun) work relentlessly to fill up the pool to Ned’s liking so that he will come out of his hiding space. They go so far as to bring truckloads of chlorine in hopes their little skittish friend will come out of his spot.
After spending all day trying to get Ned out, nighttime falls and the pool is once again vacant with Joseph sitting in it. Ned finally makes his way to Joseph who just sits and looks at him before sharing a cup of what we can only hope is coffee and not chlorine (after all the lyrics are “sipping on straight chlorine.”)

“Chlorine” is featured on Twenty One Pilots’ recently released record, Trench. Trench was released in October of 2018, producing several hit singles including “Jumpsuit,” “Nico and the Niners,” “Levitate,” and “My Blood.” The album, the band’s fourth studio effort, was met with mostly positive reviews and commercial success, reaching number one in six countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Twenty One Pilots’ “Bandito” world tour will resume later this month with a two-month trek across Europe. Following that outing, the duo will return to Mexico, Canada, and the United States for the second North American leg of the lengthy jaunt. The full list of upcoming tour dates can be found here.
Earlier this month, the duo was confirmed as one of the headliners for this year’s Boston Calling. Twenty One Pilots join Tame Impala, Travis Scott, Hozier, Janelle Monáe, and more on the festival’s ten-year anniversary lineup. The full list of acts can be found here.
