Watch: Katy Perry and Zedd embark on an AI relationship in ‘365’

Can robots feel love?

That’s the question Katy Perry and Zedd pose in the music video for their brand new joint track. On Thursday (Feb. 14), the singer and the DJ released their new song “365” mere hours after confirming its existence on social media. The four-and-a-half-minute video finds Perry taking on the role of a robot created in a sterilized laboratory.

Zedd, on the other hand, plays the role of a human who is being used for an experiment by the same scientists that created the Perry-bot. The viewer watches as Perry is first introduced to a life-size teddy bear as an experiment to see if she can truly interact with other beings. Once it seems that Perry-bot can interact successfully with other beings, the scientists pair her with Zedd for the real test.

The video continues with the duo going through the beginning stages of a relationship like awkward first conversations, dinner, dancing, and even sleeping together. Perry’s robot seems to be trying her hardest to make it work out, but it appears like Zedd isn’t ready for that giant step yet. This becomes evident as he runs away during a house tour, chooses to sleep on the couch rather in the bed, and even falls asleep during a movie.

As the Perry-bot begins to shed tears, the scientists are thrown into a frenzy because can robots really feel emotions?

Watch the music video for “365” above.

“365” is Perry’s first new song since her Christmastime single “Cozy Little Christmas.” Her last studio album was 2017’s lukewarmly received fifth studio album, Witness. As for Zedd, the DJ recently gave Shawn Mendes’  “Lost in Japan” the remix treatment and was even nominated for several Grammys for his smash collaboration with Maren Morris and Grey, “The Middle.”

Childish Gambino, the 1975, Ariana Grande to headline Coachella 2019

Time to start packing your flower headbands, glitter, and short shorts because the lineup for the 2019 incarnation of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was just announced. On Wednesday (Jan. 2), Coachella festival organizers unveiled the complete roster for the springtime event’s 20th anniversary. Boosting an eclectic and diverse set of acts, this year’s event will include some top 20 artists, some indie/rock bands as well as some up-and-coming musicians.

This year’s headliners include Childish Gambino, the 1975, Ariana Grande, Janelle Monáe, Tame Impala, Solange, Kid Cudi, Khalid, Zedd, and more.

In addition to the aforementioned acts, the lineup will also include Weezer, Pusha-T, Blood Orange, Diplo, Kacey Musgraves, Anderson .Paak, Juice WRLD, the Interrupters, Aphex Twins, J. Balvin, Billie Eilish, Bassnectar, Wiz Khalifa, Christine and the Queens, Bazzi, Bad Bunny, Dillon Francis, CHVRCHES, and even a DJ set from actor/musician Idris Elba.

Coachella will return to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California for its usual two-weekend takeover. This year, those weekends are April 12-14 and April 19-21. Coachella passes are set to go on sale on this Friday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. PT.

For those not able to make it to California, there’s no need to worry. As with past years, YouTube has been named the festival’s exclusive live-streaming partner. This marks the ninth year YouTube and Coachella have joined forces to give fans the chance to watch the festival sets from the comfort of their homes.

The official lineup reveal comes hours after it was announced that widely speculated headliner Kanye West would no longer perform at the annual music festival. According to TMZ, the rapper was dropped from the bill following a disagreement over the stage’s size and design.

For now, the complete lineup for Coachella 2019 can be found below.

Jared Leto Covers “Stay the Night”

image

Jared Leto is by far one of the most talented people out there being able to do almost everything, and do it particularly well. Acting, music, humanitarian, we’re almost blushing at how much we sound like fan-girls writing this. (He’s also really pretty and has great hair.)

Today, video surfaced of the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman covering Zedd’s song “Stay the Night.” The video features Leto performing a piano-led rendition of the Top 100 radio hit.

The stripped down version of the song is a complete departure from the original as it does not have any of that electronic dance music, over-produced sound and of course there is that little issue of Leto singing the lyrics rather than Paramore frontwoman, Hayley Williams.

Give the cover of the song a listen and let us know which version of the song you like best: the original or the cover?

iTunes Festival to Hit South By Southwest

sxswitunes

The iTunes Festival will finally be making its way to the United States this year as part of South By Southwest. The iTunes Festival, which usually takes place in England, gives fans the opportunity to see some of the biggest artists in music at no cost; the only catch is that it becomes a raffle of who can get tickets to attend.

According to press release from Apple, the festival will take place from March 11-15 and will feature performances from Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Pitbull, Keith Urban, ZEDD, and may more that are still to be announced.

“The iTunes Festival in London has become an incredible way for Apple to share its love of music with our customers,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “We’re excited about the incredible lineup of artists performing and SXSW is the perfect place to debut the first iTunes Festival in the US.”

The shows will take place at ACL Live at the Moody Theater, home of Austin City Limits. “All five nights of the iTunes Festival will be available to enjoy for free as a live and on-demand stream via the iTunes Store® on your iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch®, Mac® or PC. Performances can also be seen in the iTunes Festival app on your iOS device or with Apple TV® in stunning HD,” the official press release for the festival says about where you can watch the performances.

No word yet on how tickets will be distributed for this event.

Stream Zedd’s New Song with Hayley Williams

zedd

We’re pretty sure that if you were to rewind time and tell Hayley Williams ten years ago that she would be contributing vocals to one of EDM’s rising star’s new song, who know what the response would be; maybe she would laugh in our face and go back to coloring her hair with orange highlighters.

Well, times have definitely changed for the frontwoman because this wouldn’t even be the first time she has lent her vocals to someone out of her music realm. After a week of dropping hints about his new song, the Russian born DJ finally released his song featuring Williams titled, “Stay the Night.”

“We had the topline written and we needed a singer, and we were kind of brainstorming on who would be a good fit; at first we thought it might be better to have a male singer,” Zedd told MTV News. “But then, since I know Hayley’s voice, we had the idea to use her for the track … I kind of think it’s more sexy and interesting with her singing it.”

In that same interview, the DJ admitted that he had been a fan of Williams for quite sometime saying, “she’s one of my favorite singers and I think she did an incredible job.”

The new song can be found on the producer’s deluxe version of Clarity which is scheduled to be released on September 24. The deluxe also includes other tracks such as “Push Play,” featuring Miriam Bryant, a Zedd remix of Skrillex and The Doors’ “Break’n A Sweat,” and a Zedd remix of Empire of the Sun’s “Alive.”
