How exactly does one troll a group that’s made a name for themselves by trolling everyone? Simple, beat them at their own game.Over the weekend, the Westboro Baptist Church were once again at it, protesting the Foo Fighters’ show at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO.
Like many bands who have been protested by the anti-everything group, the Foo Fighters decided to beat the trolls at their own game. In a video uploaded, which can be seen below, the band is heard coming from around a corner blasting Green Day’s “American Idiot.” As the truck they are riding rolls into the frame of the camera, the song changes to Rick Astley’s ’80s dance anthem “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
The truck then stops in front of the protesters and the group starts a small dance party in the bed of the truck. A close-up image shows drummer Taylor Hawkins carrying a sign that says “You Got Rick Rolled. And that they did.
This encounter with the Westboro protesters isn’t even the first time the Foo Fighters have come face to face with the group. Back in 2011, Westboro decided to protest the band’s show in Kansas City following their humorous truck stop shower characters from their “Keep It Clean (Hot Buns)” tour promo. Instead of letting the group get under their skin, the band rolled in, on a flatbed truck, as the truck stop characters and gave the protesters a show.
The 2011 footage can be seen below.
The Foo Fighters are currently in the middle of their North American tour in support of their recently released album, Sonic Highways. Tonight (Aug. 24), the band will stop at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Detroit.
