Simple Plan, State Champs, and We the Kings join forces for ‘Where I Belong’

Is it true that bands that play together stay together? Well, it looks like that may be the case when it comes to the guys in Simple Plan, State Champs, and We the Kings.

On Friday (Oct. 11), the three groups (and soon-to-be tour mates) unleashed their collaborative new song “Where I Belong.” Taking inspiration from all three bands’ sound, the three-minute tune gives us some of that summertime/Vans Warped Tour vibes with pop-punky goodness.

Listen to “Where I Belong” above.

The song comes a day after all three bands had one job: to break some “super important news.

The first to get enlisted were the guys from Simple Plan. Sadly, every single member was busy doing something that needed their “undivided attention (hi David, it’s great to see you’re back and busy eating a banana).

When they finally had a moment to break the news, they had to head on stage for a show. Instead, they decided to leave the job to the guys in State Champs.

Like the dudes in Simple Plan, State Champs were also a little preoccupied. We understand entirely as building trust with a judgmental kitten and documentaries are super important.

Like Simple Plan before, the guys in State Champs left the job to the guys in We the Kings. Frontman Travis Clark was the one to answer the call, but like everyone before, something went wrong. First, it was a collection letter from the toll pass (we’re assuming this is Florida, so SunPass). Then it was a letter from his daughters’ school.

After asking his wife where the “super important announcement” document is, he opens it only to find out his kids got to it first. What can you do?

Watch all three failed attempts here, here, and here.

The three acts are set to hit the road later this month. The joint trek kicks off on Oct. 29 at the National in Richmond, Virginia and wraps up on Nov. 24 at the Fillmore in San Francisco. The full list of tour dates can be seen below.

We the Kings drop new single ‘Even If It Kills Me’

It’s been a week since We the Kings returned with not only a new song, but a new album. Now, the group is giving fans another new tune from the upcoming release. On Thursday (June 28), the Florida-founded band unleashed a new song titled “Even If It Kills Me.” For longtime fans of the band, the song is a throwback to the five-piece’s earlier sound.

“There are songs on this album that aren’t like the second through fifth albums,” explains frontman Travis Clark about the impending release. “They’re a lot like the first. Maybe it was our way of doing a tip of the hat to the fans who have stuck around.”

Listen to “Even If It Kills Me” above.

“Even If It Kills Me” will join previously released track “On My Love” on We the Kings’ sixth studio album. Titled SIX, the new album is due out July 6 through the band’s longtime home of S-Curve Records/BMG.

Pre-orders for SIX are available on the band’s website. The upcoming record is the follow-up to the group’s 2015 release, Strange Love. In support of the early July release, the band will embark on the final Vans Warped Tour.

We the Kings return with new song, new album

Armed with a brand new record, We the Kings are ready to hit the Vans Warped Tour this summer. On Wednesday (June 20), the Florida-founded band announced the forthcoming release of their sixth studio album. Titled SIX, the new album is due out July 6 through the band’s longtime home of S-Curve Records/BMG.

The record comes a year or so after the band launched a PledgeMuisc campaign to assist with the creation of the new album. Late last year, the group’s monetary goal was reached and they began to work on their new set of tunes. In honor or all those fans, the cover art features the faces of all those contributors.

In conjunction with the new album announcement, the five-piece also released the album’s lead single, “On My Love.”

In an interview with Billboard, frontman Travis Clark reveals that the title is based on an expression used by his wife’s family.

“I learned the expression ‘On My Love’ from my wife’s family,” he begins.

“They use it all the time to prove that they are being honest and telling the truth. This song is about swearing on my love that no matter where life takes us, we will always be there for each other. ‘Even if the worst takes us through hell, I’ll be here for you.'”
