Listen: Natalie Portman gets ‘Wrapped Up’ in final ‘Vox Lux’ trailer

We’ve seen Natalie Portman fully become troubled pop star Celeste in the past “Vox Lux” trailers, but now, we finally get the opportunity to hear the award-winning actress’ vocals. On Wednesday (Nov. 28), the final trailer for the upcoming film was unleashed.

At the beginning of the two-minute video, Celeste tells her adoring audience that she was going to “take it back to where it all began.” As promised, the clip goes back in time to that fateful day that changed everything for Celeste and her sister Eleanor as they took the stage to perform at a vigil following a school shooting. Teenage Celeste takes the stage to perform a song her and her sister wrote called “Wrapped Up.”

As the viewer gets a quick look at her life as a teenager encountering several struggles, it soon returns to present day.

Like her teenage self, the viewer watches all the battles adult Celeste encounters like trying to remain relevant, raising her daughter, and the struggles of stardom.

“Wrapped Up,” like all the other songs featured in the film, was written by Sia and sung by Portman.

“Vox Lux” was written and directed by Bradley Corbet. Joining Portman are Stacy Martin as Celeste’s sister; Jude Law as Celeste’s manager; Jennifer Ehle as her no-nonsense publicist; and Willem Dafoe as the film’s narrator.

“Vox Lux” is due out on Dec. 7 in New York and Los Angeles while its wide theatrical release will happen a week later on Dec. 14. “Wrapped Up” will be available for download beginning Dec. 7 while the “Vox Lux” soundtrack will be available beginning on Dec. 14.

What happens after two sisters experience a massive traumatic event during their teenage years? That’s what Natalie Portman’s latest film, “Vox Lux,” is about to explore. On Thursday (Oct. 25), the first official trailer for the upcoming film was released. The two-and-a-half-minute clip begins with Portman’s character Celeste, a Lady Gaga-esque pop star, sitting down with a reporter for an interview.

The purpose of the interview is to thrust her back into the spotlight as she makes a triumphant return to the stage following an “accident.”

“But that’s what this show is about. It’s about rebirth,” she explains to the reporter in a nonchalant manner.

The trailer then shifts to Celeste on stage talking to an adoring, and sold-out crowd who are just as equally decked out in sequins and black eyeliner as she is. “People have been trying to take me down for years….but I won’t stay down!” she declares as the cheers drown her out.

While we see her huge pop star persona while she’s on stage, the viewer also gets a glimpse at the volatile person she becomes once the stage lights go dim. The trailer finds her throwing a tantrum in her dressing room, slamming her hand on a table when a fan asks for picture, and asking somewhat politely that the paparazzi leave her alone. All the while, her own teenage daughter is concerned for her well-being.

“Mom, I’m worried about you.”

The trailer comes to a close with a montage of Celeste both as a child and now on stage as her haunting final words are heard: “They wanted a show. I gave them a show.”

The synopsis for the film reads: “Vox Lux begins in 1999 when teenage sisters Celeste (Raffey Cassidy) and Eleanor (Stacy Martin) survive a seismic, violent tragedy. The sisters compose and perform a song about their experience, making something lovely and cathartic out of catastrophe — while also catapulting Celeste to stardom. By 2017, the now 31-year-old Celeste (Natalie Portman) is mother to a teenage daughter of her own and struggling to navigate a career fraught with scandals when another act of terrifying violence demands her attention.”

“Vox Lux” was written and directed by Bradley Corbet.
