A month after announcing that they had joined the Hopeless Records family for their upcoming new album, Sum 41 has confirmed its release date and title. On Monday (June 6), the Canadian band announced that their sixth studio album will be titled 13 Voices and is set to be released on Oct. 7. This record marks the band’s first new record since 2011’s Screaming Bloody Murder.
“I am really excited to be releasing an album after everything I’ve been through recently,” shares frontman Deryck Whibley. “This new music represents the journey I’ve been on throughout the process of making this record.”
“I had to fall in order to rise, and nothing feels better than to have something you love that you had to really fight for. I can honestly say that 13 Voices saved my life and I cannot wait to share it with all of you,” he adds.
Whibley began writing the new album back in 2014 after a four-month stay at the hospital stemming from liver and kidney failure. From the hospital bed, Whibley updated fans that this was an eye-opener for him and that the ordeal had inspired him to write new music. In between writing new music and launching a Pledge Music campaign to help fund the new tunes, the musician had to learn to redo everything.
“I had to learn how to do everything again-my motor skills, learning how to play guitar again… I couldn’t even walk at the time. It was really difficult, but at the same time if I didn’t have a record to make, I don’t think I would have recovered as quickly. Writing music gave me a purpose. I had to get better.”
More information such as pre-orders for the new album will come at a later date. For now, you can check out the album art for 13 Voices and the track listing which will feature ten new songs from the band.
