With the rising epidemic of on campus sexual assault and those so-called schools attempting to cover it up because you know, it looks bad for their image, people have become more vigilant in trying to bring all of these issues to light. On Friday, Lady Gaga joined the list of people trying to do something to change how on-campus sexual assault is viewed.
The singer released a music video for a song titled “Til It Happens To You” written for the documentary The Hunting Ground. The music video starts out with the message: “The following contains graphic content that may be emotionally upsetting but reflects the reality of what is happening daily on college campuses” ensuring that the viewer knows that this is not going to be one of those sugar-coated press released colleges release when something like this is exposed.
The music video was directed by Catherine Hardwicke (of Twilight fame) and features several scenes of sexual assault at various college locations such as a dorm room and a party as well as the aftermath for the victims. Hardwicke spoke with The Huffington Post about the video and revealed that the five-minute video does exactly what the documentary does.
“I hope that this PSA, with its raw and truthful portrayals, will send a clear message that we need to support these courageous survivors and end this epidemic plaguing our college campuses,” Hardwicke said in a statement.
