Eminem, Jack White, Yeah Yeah Yeahs to headline Governors Ball 2018

Eminem, Jack White, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are just a handful of artists who will be heading to New York this summer for the eighth annual Governors Ball Music Festival. On Wednesday (Jan. 3), the full lineup for the 2018 incarnation of the annual summertime festival was announced. Like previous years, this year’s lineup boosts a mix of artists from different genres making sure to satisfy everyone’s music taste.

For Eminem, Governors Ball will mark the rapper’s second major 2018 music festival appearance. On Tuesday, Jan. 2, Eminem was confirmed as one of the three main headliners for Coachella 2018. The two music festival engagements will be in support of the rapper’s luke warmly-received ninth studio album, Revival.

For Jack White, his appearance at Governors Ball just adds to the speculation that he will be releasing a new album sometime in the new year. Though White previously teased fans with a weird video, no official title or release date has been given for the new album. White’s last studio album was 2014’s Lazaretto.

For the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Governors Ball marks the band’s first major show in a long time. Back in October, the group performed their first concert in four years when they took the stage to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of their debut album, Fever to Tell.

In addition to Eminem, Jack White, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, this year’s Governors Ball lineup also includes acts like N.E.R.D, Silk City (Diplo and Mark Ronson), the Gaslight Anthem, Halsey, CVRCHES, Cut Copy, Galantis, Japandroids, Third Eye Blind, Vic Mensa, LANY, The Menzingers, Wolf Alice, The Struts, and Sir Sly.

Governors Ball will mark N.E.R.D’s first show in New York since 2010. The Pharrell Williams-led act recently released their critically acclaimed fifth studio album, No_One Every Really Dies.

For The Gaslight Anthem, 2018 will mark the ten-year anniversary of the release of their sophomore, and much beloved album, The ’59 Sound. To celebrate the record’s anniversary, the band will perform the album in full during their time slot at the music festival. The album went on to be named eMusic’s “Best Album of 2008.”

Three-day general admission tickets, as well as VIP passes, are currently available at a special “announce day” price. Regular ticket prices will resume at midnight on Jan. 4. The 2018 edition of Governors Ball Music Festival will take place during the weekend of June 1 – 3 at Randall’s Island in New York City. Karen O. Makes You Miss the Summertime with “Day Go By” Video

It’s been a couple of months since Karen O. finally released her solo album, Crush Songs, and now we have the official first music video from the album.

The video which is a short film of young love in Summertime is for O.’s lead single “Day Go By.” With images of being at the pool, riding a motorcycle, climbing gates, and making out, it makes you yearn for those warm Summer days of your youth (if you aren’t one, of course).

Check out the music video below.

A few months ago, the songstress announced that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the band she has fronted for as long as we can remember, had decided to go on a bit of a hiatus.

But don’t think it’s the end of the band.

She reassured fans that it’s just a break and once they decided to reunite, it will be like nothing has changed.

Completely reassured.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs On ‘a Bit of a Hiatus’

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Karen O. officially released her solo album a few months ago, but for fans of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, she has some bad news for them; there’s currently no new music on the horizon.

During an interview with NME, the songstress revealed that the group are currently on “a bit of a hiatus.” When O. announced plans to release a solo album, understandably, fans began to panic that it would be the end of the “Heads Will Roll” trio.

But, O.’s solo record isn’t the reason that the band have decided to go into hibernation for a while; it seems that the inspiration bug just hasn’t bitten them in a while.

“We have to wait to get the urge, get that itch,” she said.

“The time needs to be right and we’re OK waiting for that, I think.”

Some speculation arose that the reason a new album was not in the cards for the near future might have been attributed to their last album, 2013’s Mosquito getting a lukewarm reception when it was released, but O. makes sure to nip that in the bud by defending last year’s release.

“All you can do is try to make albums you can stand by and be proud of, that are a snapshot of where you were at the time. It won’t stop us, nothing like that.”

O.’s seems to be OK with the hiatus and even reassured fans that the break will not affect the band.

“It’ll be like muscle memory,” she said. “This unspoken thing between the three of us where it all just…locks in.”

See, it’ll be like nothing changed.

Watch Karen O. Perform in Fan’s Living Room

You cannot deny that Karen O. is not only adorable, but the woman has one hell of a voice which has earned her an Academy Award nomination and a lots of fans.

With the release of her debut album, Crush Songs, the songstress gave fans the chance to listen to songs from the new record live before its official release date two weeks ago.

But while the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have headlined club gigs and bigger venues in the past, O. decided that she wanted these listening parties to be small and intimate which is what led her to performing in some of her fans’ living rooms rather than at bigger locations.

How many people can say that they’ve had an Oscar nominee sing for them in their living room? Not very many.

A video posted by YouTube user, Sofar Sound shows O. performing one of her solo songs, and singles, “Rapt” in New York City last month at one of those listening parties.

Check out the video below.

Karen O.’s debut record, Crush Songs was released on Sept. 9. through Julian Casablancas’ record label, Cult Records and even gave fans the chance to listen to all the new songs a week ahead of time through Soundcloud.

Karen O. knows just how to make her fans extra happy on this Friday morning. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman is currently streaming her debut, solo album, in full.

Earlier this week, O. had released the audio for one of the tracks, “Days Go By,” a short little diddy about liking someone a lot. Of course, the tracks fits with the theme of the album; songs about crushes.

The new record will feature 15 tracks including “Days Go By” and lead single, “Rapt” that was released a few weeks back. In addition to the tracks, O. hosted a series of listening parties in 21 different cities to debut her new record to a selected group of [lucky] fans.

Crush Songs is set to be released this upcoming Tuesday, Sept. 9. through Julian Casablancas’ record label, Cult Records.

The record, like O. has said several times, was conceived at a time when she was not sure about her love life. Getting out of a long-term relationship, she wondered if she would ever find the one and became somewhat of a skeptic about love at the age of 27. Now, at 35, she’s happily married and managed to put all that former-anguish into a record.

But, if you’re worried that this might be the end of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, don’t panic, this isn’t the first time O. has strayed from the band. In the past few years, O. has contributed songs to a few film soundtracks including Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie (“Strange Love”) and most recently, “The Moon Song” from former flame, Spike Jonze’s film, Her. The song did go on to earn her an Academy Award nomination after all.

Karen O. to Release Solo Album

Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman, Karen O has revealed that she will be releasing her first solo album later this year through The Strokes frontman, Julian Casablancas’ record label, Cult Records.

The album, which has been titled Crush Songs shows the songstress getting away from her band, though this would not be the first time that the show had been solely about her.

In the past, O. had contributed to several film soundtracks including Where the Wild Things Are and “The Moon Song” which was featured in the Scarlett Johansson/Joaquin Phoenix film Her; both films were directed by her former flame, Spike Jonze.

There was also that cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigration Song” which she sang with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack and her contribution to Tim Burton’s Frankenstein-inspired film, Frankenweenie (a song titled “Strange Love”).

In a handwritten letter addressed to her fans and potential listeners on her website, O. reveals that the songs had been written when she was 27 years old, a time where she didn’t know if she would ever fall in love, again.

Fast-forward eight years later, she’s now 35 years old and, in fact, did fall in love again, marrying director Barnaby Clay.

Crush Songs will reportedly be released on September 9. We can only hope that a tour might be in the near future. Maybe she’ll be able to get Casablancas to leave his stomping grounds of New York and California.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs Added to SXSW Line-Up

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs may have been taking a break from the band since the release of It’s Blitz, but that didn’t mean they weren’t up to doing solo events such as singer Karen O’s contribution to Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie Soundtrack. In late 2011, O hinted that she had been working on new music and that there might even be a new album for the band in the future. Almost a year after that statement had been made, the band went on to announce via their Instagram page that their new album will be released in sometime in 2013.

Earlier this year, the band followed that up by announcing that Mosquito, the new album would be released on April 16. Now in support of the new album, YYYs have been added to the NPR Music Showcase at South by Southwest which will also feature  Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The event will take place at famed Stubb’s on March 13.

In the meantime, you can check out two of the band’s teasers for Mosquito down below:
