Indie Supergroup Take on Phil Collins, White Stripes

What happens when you combine members of The Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, and The Strokes and have them perform songs from Phil Collins and fellow artist, Jack White?

You get something call the Pop All Star Band, but don’t expect for this supergroup to go on and become a powerhouse of indie players.

Last week, Win Butler and his brother Will were joined on stage by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and The Strokes’ Nikolai Fraiture during a show in Montreal; the Arcade Fire’s hometown.

The special one-off performance happened during the halftime show of the Butler brothers’ annual Pop vs. Jock charity basketball game (you know, the one that Win always gets way into and does stupid stuff?).

The randomly chosen group, which also included the Arcade Fire’s Regine Chassagne took on Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” as well as The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.”

As for the game itself, it looks like the Butler brothers’ team won which would explain why there hasn’t been any story as of yet of Win throwing a hissy-fit over a bad call.

Check out the video of the supergroup performing both tracks.

Jack White to Release Second Solo Album

Jack White has a busy summer ahead of him including many festival,s but it looks like that isn’t the only thing he has planned. Today, it was revealed that the former White Stripes frontman will be releasing his second solo album later this year.

The album will be titled Lazaretto and is set to be released on June 10th through Columbia Records and White’s own record label, Third Man Records. The first official single from the upcoming record won’t be released for a little, but that hasn’t stopped White from releasing an instrumental song titled “High Ball Stepper.”

Third Man Records has revealed its plan to release the album as part of its Vault Subscription which will feature a package of lots of bonus stuff such as Lazaretto EP on blue and white split-color vinyl, a fold out poster, a 7-inch demo version of two of the songs on the album and a few more objects. For those interested, the package is “Vault Package #20.”

If that sounds like something you’d like, the last day to sign up for it will be April 30 at midnight.

Check out “High Ball Stepper” here and hopefully it will hold you over until the lead single is released.

The White Stripes Meet Lullaby Time

Want to teach your kiddies about good rock bands early in life so they don’t end up worshiping radio’s latest cash cow? Well, the popular “rock songs turned into lullabies” company, Rockabye Baby, are back with a brand new rock song turned lullaby and this time it’s “Seven Nation Army.”

Lullaby Renditions of the White Stripes turns the duo’s hit song into something suitable for little kids to listen to and enjoy even though “Seven Nation Army” is an enjoyable song. The Shite Stripes are in good company though with this lullaby; the company has featured bands like The Beatles, Nirvana, U2, Radiohead and more than 50 others with their hit instrumental.

Check out the video of the lullaby rendition of “Seven Nation Army” right here (and it’s so cute):
