Listen: Gerard Way and Ray Toro join forces for ‘Happy Together’ cover

My Chemical Romance may or may not get back together one day, but until that time, fans have been a given a little treat for their jet black hearts. On Friday (Feb. 8) former bandmates Gerard Way and Ray Toro reunited for their second covers collaboration. This time around, the duo gave their own spin to the Turtles’ 1967 track, “Happy Together.” Listen to the collaboration above.

The “Happy Together” cover is the second song Way and Toro have collaborated on in the past month. Back in January, they surprised fans by recording their version of Simon and Garfunkel’s 1968 track, “A Hazy Shade of Winter” (can be seen above). The Simon and Garfunkel cover is predominately featured in the first full trailer for Netflix and Way’s upcoming series “The Umbrella Academy.”

As per the description that accompanies the songs, both tracks will be featured in the upcoming series which is set to premiere next Friday, Feb. 15, on the streaming giant.

The series will star Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan (“Misfits”), Tom Hopper (“Game of Thrones”), Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castaneda, Aidan Gallagher, and Mary J. Blige.

Fans of Way’s music have had to wait some time for the musician to head back into the recording studio as he has been a little preoccupied with “The Umbrella Academy.” Late last year, Way promised fans new music and he delivered.

In October he released “Baby You’re a Haunted House” followed by “Getting Down the Germs” in November. In December, he paid homage to Christmas and one of Santa’s lesser-known reindeers with “Dasher.”
