The Gaslight Anthem announce short ’59 Sound’ tour

Earlier this month, the Gaslight Anthem were confirmed as one of the many artists set to hit the stage at this year’s Governors Ball Music Festival, making it their first show since their hiatus announcement in 2015. Now, it looks like the group is ready to hit the touring circuit once again. On Monday (Jan. 29), the New Jersey-founded act announced plans to hit the road beginning in the spring.

Set to kick off in late May, the Gaslight Anthem’s short, ten-day tour will find the group playing their beloved sophomore album, The ’59 Sound, in full during their sets. Sadly, the tour schedule only features four North American stops; their set at New York’s Governors Ball Music Festival; a show at the Rivera Theatre in Chicago; a show at Rebel in Toronto; and their kick off show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. The rest of the tour stops will take place in the United Kingdom and Europe.

Pre-sales for the upcoming shows will begin this Tuesday, Jan. 30, on The Gaslight Anthem’s website. Those who use the code “59SOUND” will get the chance to obtain tickets before the general public. General ticket sales will begin this Friday, Feb. 2.

The band’s plan for the short tour comes almost three years after they decided to go on hiatus. In the summer of 2015, the act surprised fans by announcing their plans to take a break stating that it was in the “best interest of the band.”

“We’d like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record,” the band members wrote in a post to fans. “We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us.”

The complete itinerary for the Gaslight Anthem’s ’59 Sound tour can be seen below.

Eminem, Jack White, Yeah Yeah Yeahs to headline Governors Ball 2018

Eminem, Jack White, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are just a handful of artists who will be heading to New York this summer for the eighth annual Governors Ball Music Festival. On Wednesday (Jan. 3), the full lineup for the 2018 incarnation of the annual summertime festival was announced. Like previous years, this year’s lineup boosts a mix of artists from different genres making sure to satisfy everyone’s music taste.

For Eminem, Governors Ball will mark the rapper’s second major 2018 music festival appearance. On Tuesday, Jan. 2, Eminem was confirmed as one of the three main headliners for Coachella 2018. The two music festival engagements will be in support of the rapper’s luke warmly-received ninth studio album, Revival.

For Jack White, his appearance at Governors Ball just adds to the speculation that he will be releasing a new album sometime in the new year. Though White previously teased fans with a weird video, no official title or release date has been given for the new album. White’s last studio album was 2014’s Lazaretto.

For the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Governors Ball marks the band’s first major show in a long time. Back in October, the group performed their first concert in four years when they took the stage to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of their debut album, Fever to Tell.

In addition to Eminem, Jack White, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, this year’s Governors Ball lineup also includes acts like N.E.R.D, Silk City (Diplo and Mark Ronson), the Gaslight Anthem, Halsey, CVRCHES, Cut Copy, Galantis, Japandroids, Third Eye Blind, Vic Mensa, LANY, The Menzingers, Wolf Alice, The Struts, and Sir Sly.

Governors Ball will mark N.E.R.D’s first show in New York since 2010. The Pharrell Williams-led act recently released their critically acclaimed fifth studio album, No_One Every Really Dies.

For The Gaslight Anthem, 2018 will mark the ten-year anniversary of the release of their sophomore, and much beloved album, The ’59 Sound. To celebrate the record’s anniversary, the band will perform the album in full during their time slot at the music festival. The album went on to be named eMusic’s “Best Album of 2008.”

Three-day general admission tickets, as well as VIP passes, are currently available at a special “announce day” price. Regular ticket prices will resume at midnight on Jan. 4. The 2018 edition of Governors Ball Music Festival will take place during the weekend of June 1 – 3 at Randall’s Island in New York City. The Gaslight Anthem Announce Hiatus

image

Sad news for fans of New Jersey’s The Gaslight Anthem; the band has decided to go on hiatus.

Taking to social media, the band urged fans to read a message they had posted on their official Facebook page without actually revealing the news.

In the message, they announced that they had decided it was in the best interest of the group to take a break from it all. The hiatus will officially begin once they wrap up their European tour dates in August. In a nod to “going out on top,” the band’s last day will be Aug. 30 when they take the stage at Reading and Leeds.

But for those who think the band might put music behind them, don’t worry. In the letter, they confirm that all members will be active in one way or another on different projects.

Read the complete message from them below.

“Hello All!

We wanted to let everyone know that we’ll all be taking a break from The Gaslight Anthem after this next European tour in August. We’re all going to do other projects and stay active in some way or another, both in and out of music, but we’d like to step away from the band until we decide what we’d like to do next.

We’d like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record. We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our band for the last eight years and we’ll see you down the road!

With love and respect,

Brian, Benny, Alex and Alex.”

The Gaslight Anthem have had a busy year, touring in support of their latest album, Get Hurt, which was released last August.

Reading and Leeds Unveil 60+ New Artists to 2015 Line-Up

image

Just when we though Reading and Leeds had finished unveiling their complete line-up for the 2015 incarnation of the yearly festival, organizers has officially given the completed line-up today.

Back in February when organizers released the flyer for the weekend-long event, a big chunk of the line-up had been revealed making some assume (like us) that those were all the people heading to the United Kingdom for the Bank Holiday. One thing that did not escape us were the two “special guest TBA” spots and the promise that a lot more acts would be added.

Now, those vacant spots have been revealed as well as over 60+ new acts that include Alt-J, Against Me!, The Gaslight Anthem, AWOLNATION, Modern Baseball, The Bots, Atreyu, PVRIS, and many more.

Check out the new additions to the line-up below.

Reading and Leeds will take place during the weekend of August 28-30. Tickets are on sale, but if you haven’t already purchased them already, it might be a good idea to do so now or really soon.

Skate and Surf Fest Unveil Full 2015 Line-Up

Skate and Surf Festival 2015 - Asbury Park, NJ - May 16th & 17th *RAIN OR SHINE

If you already didn’t have plans to go to Skate and Surf Fest this May, then maybe the newest additions to their 2015 line-up might change your mind.

Back in January, the New Jersey based music festival unveiled three band reunions and a slew of other great acts taking the stage in Asbury Park. Over the past few weeks, festival organizers have been hinting at more acts being added to the already announced line-up and they didn’t disappoint.

Joining Acceptance, From Autumn to Ashes, and Poison the Well as “reunited acts” will be Thrice, who previously have been confirmed to reunite at several other music festivals this Spring/Summer.

But that’s not all.

The Front Bottoms, Hot Rod Circuit, and the Front Bottoms are just some of the newly added acts making the trip to New Jersey during the weekend on May 16-17 alongside previously announced bands like The Gaslight Anthem, the Dropkick Murphys, and more.

Check out the complete list of acts below.

Skate and Surf Unveil 2015 Line-Up, Two Big Reunions

Skate and Surf Festival 2015 - Asbury Park, NJ - May 16th & 17th *RAIN OR SHINE

It’s only been a little over a month since Skate and Surf Festival announced just a small portion of their 2015 festival line-up and now, after promising fans for a while, the New Jersey festival has revealed a hefty portion, if not all, of the line up.

Headlining the event will be Jersey’s own The Gaslight Anthem and the Dropkick Murphys who will be in the middle of their “Celtic Punk Invasion” Tour when they drop by Asbury Park in May.

Kevin Devine, mewithoutYou, American Nightmare and more have now joined previously announced acts like Manchester Orchestra, The Wonder Years, The Story So Far, Modern Baseball, From Autumn to Ashes, Four Year Strong, and many more.

Like last year, the festival will have two (as of now) awesome reunions going on.

The first of two reunions will be Acceptance, who broke up in 2006 after releasing their super successful debut record. Fittingly enough, this comes a couple of months after guitarist Christian McAlhaney’s other band, Anberlin, called it a day.

The other band making a triumphant return to the stage will be Poison the Well who went on hiatus back in 2010.

Check out the newly revised line-up for this year’s Skate and Surf Festival.

Like the poster says, tickets for the weekend-long event are currently available. Skate and Surf 2015 will once again be returning to their home territory of Asbury Park on May 16 and May 17. For more information, head on over to the festival’s website.

The Gaslight Anthem Reveal Big News

image

If you’re one of the many fans of New Jersey rock outfit, the Gaslight Anthem, then you are in for some major good news because the band not only revealed that a new album is on the horizon, but that they will be heading out on tour to support it.

The new album will be titled, Get Hurt and is slated for  a release date of August 19. This new album marks the band’s fifth record and follows 2012’s Handwritten.

Unlike their previous works, frontman Brian Fallon has said that this album would be different than the ones before it, describing it as “completely different than anything we had ever done before.”

“Instead of going that extra step of just adding some organs to some background vocals, this time we actually really changed up a lot of the sounds,” he told Rolling Stone last month.

“There are certain new songs where you might say ‘Oh, that could have been on Handwritten,’ or ‘That could have been on 59 Sound,’ but there are some songs where you’re going to be like, ‘This has never been touched by this band before.'”

In the interview he goes on to say that they took on a “first-person” writing approach even citing Bob Dylan as inspiration for that.

Like it had been said before, the news of the new album wasn’t the only good thing that was revealed. the band will be hitting the road beginning on September 10 in Washington, D.C. with Against Me!  for their 2014 tour.

On a side note, it was also revealed that one of the tour stops would not only feature The Gaslight Anthem and Against Me!, but Jimmy Eat World will also be present.
