2014 JUNO Award Winners

junos

Last night Canada held their own version of every single music award that the United States has to offer, but with Canadian artists taking the lead in most of the award categories.

The Arcade Fire, who have had a fantastic year, went home with “Alternative Album of the Year” as well as “Album of the Year” for Reflektor and accepted their award via video from South America.

Tegan and Sara also came home winning after the stellar 2013 and beginning of 2014. The sister act went home with “Group Of The Year” for their catchy tune, “Closer.” The sister from Calgary accepted the award with a speech that thank everyone for letting “two queer kids from northeast Calgary” win the prize.

While most of the award show was all good, when Justin Bieber won his award for “Fan Choice” beating out Celine Dion, Drake and Michael Buble, the audience boo-ed him even though her wasn’t even present.

“Songwriter of the year” recipient Serena Ryan scolded the audience for booing the pop star though, some would wonder why she would do that, considering the way he has been acting as of lately and the way his fans are the bane of everyone’s existence.

Check out the full list of winners below.

The Arcade Fire’s Bobblehead Mask, Missing

130907-arcade-fire-reflektor-leak

The Arcade Fire have been sporting a unique kind of bobblehead mask this tour and now, one of them has been stolen, The band, made up of six members, had six of these one-of-a-kind masks for their current “Reflektor” tour. during their recent stop in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the giant papier-mâché model of Richard Parry’s head.

The band have released a statement asking fans to help locate the head even though they say that have evidence pointing to the culprit. Rather than just accusing the culprit of the crime and getting the authorities involved, they would rather have the head returned.

“Richy’s bobblehead mask was taken from our show in Bridgeport, CT,” the statement said. “This mask is a one of a kind piece that is an essential component to our live show. We have photos of the theft but rather than press charges we would prefer if the person who took it would get in touch with us to return it. Perhaps this is all an innocent mistake and you meant to leave the venue with your own oversized paper mache rendition of Richard Parry’s head? Please contact: info@quest-management.com with any information.”

The masks first made their appearance during the band’s Here Comes the Night Time TV special. When asked about the mask in an interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Will Butler said,  “For me, wearing a mask and dancing and being in the crowd – there’s this whole inversion of society that happens.”

The unfortunate incident happened on the last date of the tour before the band were to slated to take a small break from it for some festival dates.

The Arcade Fire Cover Boyz II Men

arcadefire

The Arcade Fire are definitely taking a page from Bruce Springsteen’s covers book. Just like The Boss, the band have been gracing fans at their recent shows with covers, but unlike Springsteen, the Montreal-based band have stuck with having city-specific tracks for each stop.

Until this point, they have covered Prince’s “Controversy” in Minneapolis, Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight” (Everything’s Alright) in Auburn Hill, Mich., Constantines’ “Young Lions” in Toronto and Devo’s “Uncontrollable Urge” in Cleveland.

At their stop at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center, the band covered Boyz II Men’s hit track, “Motownphilly” from their debut album, 1991’s Cooleyhighharmony.

According to their tour schedule, tonight is the last night of their “Reflektor” Tour before taking a quick break for some festivals. Tonight’s stop is on Bridgeport, CT, so what song do you think they will cover in honor of the city?

Watch the Arcade Fire Cover INXS

arcadefire

The Arcade Fire are still on a roll in 2014 even with that little mishap that happened during that basketball game with frontman Win Butler throwing a little tantrum over a play.

The band have been doing everything in their power to do things that are out of the ordinary including awkward Christmas covers, being guests on Zach Galifianakis’ show Between Two Ferns,  and even being kidnapped and interviewed by Rainn Wilson in the back of a van. We also can’t forget their cryptic messages about their new album when the news hit the web and when they went to small venues to perform as the Reflektors.

But, their zaniness does not stop there. During a gig in Australia last night, the band snuck in a cover of INXS’ “Devil Inside” to a version of “Here Comes the Night Time,”  one of the tracks from their recently released album, Reflektor.

The video can be seen below all thanks to some fans.

Co-host Jason Schwartzman said it best at the beginning of the show, “there’s nothing scripted tonight — it’s about anything happening.”

While many people who watched the first annual YouTube Music Awards called it a hot mess at best, there were a few surprises of the evening including a new song from Lady Gaga after her new album had already been leaked as well as a lesser known act taking home the award for Video of the Year.

The show which was streamed through the video watching site since, you know it is their show, only garnered a total of 220,000 viewers, but that didn’t stop the awards from being given out to those that deserved it, according to fans that vote.

The Arcade Fire Release Halloween-ish Promo

arcadefire

The Arcade Fire might be doing their super secret show tour right this moment as their alter-egos, The Reflektors, but it hasn’t stopped them from discretely debuting new tracks.

A Halloween themed video has surface online which is only about 30 seconds long. The short promo shows the band all dressed up in their Halloween best performing with some kind of creepy track playing in the background. There has been no officially confirmation that the creepy background track is a new song, but the general consensus is that it is.

If this in fact does turn out to be one of their new song, it will join their first single “Afterlife” on the highly anticipated album Reflektor which will be released next Tuesday, October 29.

While you wait for the album, get in touch with your Halloween side with the band in the promo below.

The Arcade Fire’s newest album might be one of the most anticipated albums of the year while also being one of the most secretive albums of the year, but things might be starting to come to light.

The band who have been cryptic at best about the direction of the album and maybe new sound released another new song yesterday on Zane Lowe’s show titled, “Afterlife.” The song first made its appearance on Saturday Night Live a few weeks back when they were the musical guest on the long running show.

Today, the band released the official lyric video for it which can be seen below.

Reflektor is due out next Tuesday, October 29 and have had a great way of promoting it. Last week, they played a “secret” show in Brooklyn and this week they, performing under the alias of The Reflektors, will perform two shows in Miami.
