Lana Del Rey’s love of covers knows no bounds.
On Monday (Sept. 9), the New York-born songstress headed over to BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge to perform not one, but two different covers during her stint. The first was her current radio single and Sublime cover of “Doin’ Time.” The second was her take on Ariana Grande’s “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored.”
On social media, a fan pointed out that Del Rey was giving the thank u, next track a spin and Grande chimed in, showing support for the reworked tune.
“Oh my god Lana Del Rey I love u so very very much,” the “7 rings” singer tweeted.
This isn’t the first time the collaborators —Grande, Del Rey, and Miley Cyrus worked on a song for the upcoming “Charlie’s Angels” film— praised one another.
In an interview with the New York Times, Del Rey explained to the publication how she and Grande connected and her love for Grande’s fifth studio album.
“I had been listening to Dangerous Woman a lot. I got her number at some point and we would chat. And then thank u, next came out and I freaking loved that record. Every song, I was like, how did she write that?”
Currently, there is no solo audio of both covers and if you’re not in the United Kingdom you can’t watch the live performances. But you can stream the whole show here. Here’s a tip, Del Rey’s interview starts at the 2:00:00 point and both live performance soon follow. So fast-forward to that point and listen in.
“Doin’ Time” is featured on Del Rey’s much-anticipated and recently released record Norman Fucking Rockwell while their joint track “Don’t Call Me Angel” is due out this Friday, Sept. 13.
