Jimmy Eat World gets colorful for ‘Sure and Certain’

It’s been less than a month since Jimmy Eat World released their latest/kind of surprise album, Integrity Blues. Since then, lead single “Sure and Certain” has been on a constant loop on several alternative radio stations across the country. On Wednesday (Nov. 16), a couple of months after the song made its worldwide debut, the band has released the official music video for the track.

The music video begins with footage of a cartoon-ish version of space. The camera zooms in on one particular red planet before it shifts to another scenery. The viewer is introduced to a world that seems to be part reality and part cartoon with the band members appearing in different colors. For those not sure whether the group is performing on a different planet, Earth can clearly be seen in the background, right behind them. As they continue to play, we are given a surprise; the band is actually in a painting.

The painting the band is currently occupying belongs to a ballerina who is in the middle of practicing a routine. Like anyone who is dedicated to their art, we see her get frustrated at failing, but continue to push herself. As she turns to face the painting, she seems surprised by it and goes to touch with. When she does, she is transported to the alternate world with the band. Let’s just say it feels very much like a 2016 version of A-Ha’s  “Take on Me.” Watch the clip below.

“Sure and Certain” is featured on Jimmy Eat World’s recently release ninth studio album. The record was released back in October through RCA Records. In support of the new record, the band hit the road for an extensive fall excursion. They are currently wrapping up the final stops of the tour with the group performing at Skater’s Palace in Münster, Germany tonight (Nov. 16). the final dates of the tour can be found here.

Jimmy Eat World release new single, announce new album name

A week after unveiling their first new song in three years, Jimmy Eat World has returned with yet another new track. On Tuesday (Aug. 30), the Arizona-founded band debuted the second single off of their impending new record; a track titled “Sure and Certain.” The new tune marks the second song the group has premiered off of their upcoming ninth studio album. Listen to “Sure and Certain” below.

In addition to releasing their new single, the band has also formally announced the name and release date for the new album. Jimmy Eat World’s new record will be titled Integrity Blues and is set to be released on Oct. 21 through RCA Records. Last Monday (Aug. 22), frontman Jim Adkins spoke to BBC Radio 1 DJ, Daniel P. Carter, about the group’s new album while premiering “Get Right.” During the interview, Adkins was asked whether the group had a projected release date for the album. “We do,” Adkins responded with a chuckle at the time. “We’ll be talking about that soon, but I don’t want to get people’s hopes up and have to backtrack after that.” Less than 12 hours after the interview was broadcast, the release date was announced to the public, though the band never formally confirmed or denied it.

“Sure and Certain” will join “Get Right” on Integrity Blues. Integrity Blues will mark the band’s first new record since the release of 2013’s Damage. As previously announced by Adkins, the new record was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen who previously worked with M83 and Paramore.
