Katy Perry “Roars” the Audience to Life During Super Bowl Halftime

Katy Perry blew the retractable roof off of the University of Phoenix Stadium field in Glendale, AZ during her highly anticipated Super Bowl Halftime Show.

We might be a little bias with our opinion of the show, but it’s probably been one of the best from the past couple of years. With a setlist that covered some of her biggest hits including a special rendition of “I Kissed a Girl” with Lenny Kravitz and inviting Missy Elliot to the stadium grounds to perform some of her own songs, it’s was all around awesome and rocking.

Oh yeah, and there were fireworks, a floating comet, LED lights in beach balls and some palm tree, some killer visual effects on the grounds and beach balls and sharks with massive smiley faces (and an outfit that might become 2015’s Halloween costume).

Check out the performance below.

Katy Perry Denies Paying to Play Super Bowl Halftime

When Katy Perry officially announced she had been chosen for the Super Bowl Halftime show, everyone began asking just how much the pop star had paid for the gig due to the National Football League’s recent request to try and extort money from performers in a “pay-to-play” scheme.

According to the pop star, who beat out acts like Coldplay and close friend Rihanna for the gig, she didn’t pay a single cent.

At the beginning of the talks, Perry reportedly made it clear that she would not pay to play at “football’s biggest night” saying at the time, “I’m not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl.”

In a new interview, it appears that the “Teenage Dream” singer stuck to her guns, claiming that she did not give in to the NFL’s requests.

“I put my foot down very early in the courtship,” explained Perry to the Associated Press.

“I said, ‘Look guys, here’s where I draw a line in the sand.’ I want to be invited on my own merits and not with some fine print. I don’t even care if my contract leaks. I have nothing to hide, basically.”

Perry’s performance will reportedly run 12 minutes long and consists of “two worlds.” Whatever that means.

She already revealed that Lenny Kravitz will be one of her special guests for the performance which might, in a way describe, the whole two world performance idea. Word has also started to spread that Perry would be bringing another special guest for the performance.

At the time, there’s no official confirmation, but some are speculating Rihanna is the other guest.

When asked about her performance, Perry said: “I’m all about female empowerment and uplifting people’s spirit, and people finding their own voice with songs like ‘Roar’ and ‘Firework,’ so maybe there is no better person [for the show]. Hopefully, I can bring that incredible strength and empowerment to people throughout the performance.”

Considering she was the most likely from the initial list to be chosen for the gig, we have a feeling she’ll be able to accomplish just that, even if we are a little bias here.

Super Bowl XLIX will take place on Feb. 1 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in, where else, Phoenix, AZ.

Katy Perry to Officially Headline Super Bowl Halftime Show

It’s been over a month since rumors surfaced that Katy Perry would, indeed, be headlining the National Football League’s Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2015.

Last night, the pop star revealed that she has signed up to be the performer for “football’s biggest night.”

Inside sources all but confirmed she had been chosen for the gig last month during the height of talks and a series of tweets after her first win on the American Music Awards last night, gave us the confirmation we had been waiting on.

It appears the NFL got their wish by coaxing Perry into performing. A few months ago when the “payola” scandal was revealed, inside sources had claimed the NFL has a few artists in mind for the gig including Coldplay, Rihanna, and Perry. Considering Perry has a wider appeal than the others, she seemed like the logical choice for the show.

As soon as the news made its way across the internet, Pepsi revealed Perry’s teaser for the show which includes edible glitter, unicorns, a time machine, kittens, her “outfit” and more.

While KatyKats might be excited to see their “idol” take to the green during the Super Bowl, we need to once again bring up the fact that the NFL wanted a cut of the musician’s money post-performance or a sizable “donation” for all the publicity they will garner from the show.

We’re hoping Katy’s people told the NFL to bugger off with that outrageous demand considering their ratings for the actual game last year sucked and the Bruno Mars/Red Hot Chili Peppers performance was what actually brought in the big numbers.

Super Bowl XLIX will take place on Feb. 1 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
