The Morrissey Cancellation Chronicles Continues

Morrissey

Morrissey has revealed that his South American tour stops will be cancelled, officially, because of lack of funding(translation: no mulla in the bank). The Smith’s frontman released the following statement on his website where he explain why his Argentina and Brazil dates have been canned.

If I by chance your eye offend you

I am informed today that the projected tour of South America is snuffed out, thus euthanized – due, I’m reliably advised, to lack of funding. It’s quite easy to sell tickets, yet impossible to transport band and crew from F to G.
In a year when far too many disappointments have been buried this really is the last of many final straws, and I am not alone in feeling this. The future is suddenly absent, and my apologies are now so frequent as to be somewhat ridiculous, and it is I who apologize because no one else would bother. It is agonizing to be responsible for imparting such news – especially when it springs upon me unexpectedly and inexplicably. But the collapse of South America rings the curtain down with a colossal thud, and the major problems remain as insoluble now as they were in 2009. The obvious conclusion stares back at me from the mirror, and the wheels are finally off the covered wagon. Cancellations and illness have sucked the life out of all of us, and the only sensible solution seems to be the art of doing nothing.
As always I ask your pardon, and I offer pangs of overwhelming love and gratitude to the band and the crew, whose loyalty stretched above and beyond.

I shall see you in my dreams,
Morrissey

This cancellation comes in the heels of him having to cancel the same dates due to some food poisoning that he and his crew suffered. Last year, he cancelled many tour dates to head back home to England to take care of his ailing mother. After that, he faced a bizarre series of medical issues which almost resulted in death.

But even with all this bad news about his tour, he does have one silver-lining,  Morrissey: 25 Live, a concert film captured during his Los Angeles performance will be released on Aug. 29.

Guess there is something to look forward to, Moz.

Morrissey Apologizes for Cancelled Dates

Morrissey

This year has not been kind to former  Smiths frontman, Morrissey. Due to health issues, the singer has had to cancelled several tour stops, but this time, the cancellations are taking place outside of the United States during his South American tour stops.

The singer went onto his fansite, True to You and proceeded to release a rather amusing statement (because what else would you expect from him) where he describes what led to the food poisoning which he contact while eating out. He goes on to describe the meal as a “simple restaurant meal of penne pasta and tomato” which led to him and his entire team ending up in the hospital.

“Three hours later, both I, and security Liam have collapsed with a deadly and delirious bedridden disease. Five days of round-the-clock medical supervision just barely controls the corrosively toxic food poisoning. I know my luck too well. Sorrow replaces joy, and in every dream home a heartache. It could only be me,” he describes in the most hysterical way to describe the illness that they all contacted.

The two dates that he had in Peru (July 9 and 10) as well as the eight he was supposed to spend in Chile (July 15-26) had been scraped. Earlier this year, the singer had suffered from Barrett’s esophagus,  a bleeding ulcer and double pneumonia which all resulted in him missing several large chunks of his North American tour. While being interviewed by a Mexican reporter, Morrissey revealed that he had been told to retire from music because of all his health concerns.

Of course, he did what he wanted and went on with his touring schedule until this food poisoning wall came in the way. Since his last update, the singer has returned to his L.A. where his doctor has assured him that he’d be in tip-top shape for his upcoming shows in Argentina (July 28) and Brazil (July 30, Aug. 2 and Aug. 4).
