Game of Thrones-inspired album to be released at the end of April

It looks like HBO is sparing no expense when it comes to promoting the final season of their massive cult hit, “Game of Thrones.” On Tuesday (April 9), the network announced a partnership with Columbia Records to release an album inspired by the show. Titled For the Throne (Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game of Thrones), the record is due out April 26; a week after the series’ final season is set to premiere.

The record will include contributions from the National, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, X Ambassadors, Ellie Goulding, James Arthur, Maren Morris, and many more. The album will reportedly also include a major collaboration from SZA, the Weeknd, and Travis Scott.

A source close to the project confirmed the rumor to Pitchfork over the weekend, revealing that “’Game of Thrones’ asked the Weeknd to record the song for fans. The Weeknd then brought SZA and Travis Scott onto the project.”

The National’s inclusion on the upcoming album shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as the band recorded “The Rains of Castamere” in 2012 for season two of the series.

Pre-orders for For the Throne (Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game of Thrones) are available for purchase here. The album will feature nine different covers to represent the different houses featured on the series. According to Columbia Records, the covers are “extremely limited” and encourage fans to purchase the album with their favorite house as the cover before they run out.

It’s safe to assume that House Stark, House Lannister, and House Targaryen will be the first to go.

The soundtrack comes on the heels of several collaborations including Urban Decay, Mountain Dew, Shake Shack and most recently Oreo.

The final season of Game of Thrones lands on HBO on April 14.

‘Beetlejuice’ soundtrack to receive 30th anniversary reissue

It may be time to “shake, shake, shake señor” because the “Beetlejuice” soundtrack is about to get the reissue treatment. On Thursday (Dec. 6), it was announced that the soundtrack for the 1988 Tim Burton-directed film would be coming back to life to celebrate the flick’s 30th anniversary. Simply titled Beetlejuice 30th Anniversary Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, the re-release is due out this Friday, Dec. 7 via Waxwork Records.

The upcoming remastered album will feature all of Danny Elfman’s music from the original soundtrack as well as the two Harry Belafonte songs that were heavily featured in the movie — “Jump in the Line” and “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song).”

The reissue come in the form of a 180-gram vinyl with two different designs to pick from; a half-black, half-white version or a “Beetlejuice” swirl which will mimic the demon’s iconic suit. The vinyl will also include original artwork by Justin Erickson of Toronto-based independent studio, Phantom City Creative.

The soundtrack will be available beginning this Friday, Dec. 7, via Waxwork’s website.

The soundtrack reissue isn’t only piece of “Beetlejuice”-related news fans have received within the last year. For a while, there were talks that a “Beetlejuice” sequel was in the works, but sadly, both Burton and Betelgeuse himself Michael Keaton have said that “it’s possible that ship has sailed.

Back in 2017, it was reported that a new writer had been hired to rewrite the original pitch for the sequel and even Lydia herself Winona Ryder said that she would be open to returning to the role.

Even if the sequel doesn’t happen, fans can always look forward to the Broadway adaptation of the film. Beetlejuice: The Musical just wrapped its run in Washington D.C. and will rise from the dead at the Winter Garden Theatre in March 2019. According to press material from the musical, the show will be “ruder, raunchier, and frankly more repellent than ever” and “really f***ing explicit.”

Alex Brightman (School of Rock) will take on the ghost with the most while Sophia Anne Caruso (Blackbird) will play everyone’s favorite sarcastic goth, Lydia.

Listen: Kelly Clarkson channels heartbreak in ‘Never Enough’ cover

With a week left until The Greatest Showman – Reimagined covers album is set to be released to the general public, the folks behind the forthcoming record have debuted another new song. On Friday (Nov. 9), Kelly Clarkson dropped her version of Jenny Lind’s tear-jerking track, “Never Enough.” Instead of going over-the-top, Clarkson keeps it simple by letting her iconic pipes shine through alongside a piano.

“I am so honored to be a part of The Greatest Showman – Reimagined,” said Clarkson via a press release for the newly released track. “‘Never Enough’ is a beautiful song and I hope y’all dig my version.”

Listen: Panic! at the Disco debut their ‘The Greatest Show’ cover

Theatrics is one of Panic! at the Disco’s strongest suits, so being featured on the upcoming The Greatest Showman – Reimagined covers album was almost a no brainer. On Friday (Nov. 2), the Las Vegas-founded band unleashed their version of the soundtrack’s opening track, “The Greatest Show.” Originally performed by Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Keala Settle, and the Greatest Showman Ensemble, Panic! at the Disco’s version is clearly their own spin on the track as frontman Brendon Urie’s soaring vocals are unmistakable during the three-minute song.

“I admire Benj and Justin’s work and applaud the groundbreaking soundtrack they created for The Greatest Showman,” Urie said in a press statement. “I’m excited I got a chance to add a little of my own theatrics to the reimagined version of ‘The Greatest Show.’”

Listen: P!nk covers ‘A Million Dreams’ for ‘The Greatest Showman’ tribute album

“The Greatest Showman” is by far one of the year’s biggest hits. Both the film and its accompanying soundtrack have broken several records and won several awards. All this and 2018 hasn’t even ended. Because of its surprise accomplishments, Atlantic Records announced in early October plans to reissue the film’s soundtrack with some of music’s biggest stars taking on the film’s tunes.

On Wednesday (Oct. 24), P!nk released her contribution to the tribute album. The “What About Us” crooner was given the soundtrack’s second track, “A Million Dreams.” Originally recorded by Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, and Ziv Zaifman, P!nk stays true to the film’s version of the song with piano, guitar, an orchestra, and a lot of heart and emotion.

In addition to P!nk’s cover of “A Millions Dreams,” the reprise of the song was also released. As previously reported, the “A Million Dreams (Reprise)” was performed by the singer’s seven-year-old daughter, Willow Sage Hart. Listen to the “A Million Dreams (Reprise)” here.

As if the two songs wasn’t enough to get your fix, a behind-the-scene video of the mother-daughter duo recording their songs was also released. In the video, P!nk is seen cheering on her daughter, mouthing the lyrics to the song, and thanking the guys behind the movie/soundtrack for making this film.

“I grew up listening to ‘Annie’ and no one has done this for me, for my heart since I was a little girl,” Pink says in the clip. “And to have her finally have something like this…you made our favorite movie ever.”

Watch the behind-the-scenes footage here.

P!nk and Willow are joined by a diverse group of performers on the upcoming The Greatest Showman — Reimagined album. The record also features Panic! at the Disco, Kelly Clarkson, Kesha, Missy Elliot, Pentatonix, Sara Bareilles, and more.

Listen: Lady Gaga drops ‘Shallow’ from ‘A Star is Born’ soundtrack

A Star is Born is already garnering a slew of good reviews and there’s already talk that the remake may be one of the ones to watch during awards season. All that, and the film hasn’t even hit theaters nor have we heard a full song from its original soundtrack. Now, that’s changed. On Thursday (Sept. 27), Lady Gaga headed over to Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show to exclusively premiere the album’s lead single, “Shallow.”

For those who have (repeatedly) seen the trailer for the forthcoming film, the song is predominately featured in the clip. In the teaser, Bradley Cooper’s character Jack is seen performing the song in front of a massive audience at a music festival. Jack then goes backstage and pulls a reluctant Ally (Gaga’s character) on stage with him so that she can perform the song alongside him. That’s when Ally belts out some of the song’s lyrics, showing off Gaga’s always impressive vocals.

Gaga co-wrote “Shallow” with Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, and Anthony Rossomando while she co-produced the track with Benjamin Rice. During the premiere, Gaga talked to the DJ about the song, how she ended up working with Ronson once again, and how special the song is.

“I think things come in sequence and artists, you know, I think that we move to a certain cadence in a sequence in the way that we want to put things into the world that we believe in,” Gaga told the host.

“[But] especially with the song ‘Shallow’ being such a crucial moment in the film you know. I did work on Joanne with Mark Ronson and I worked on ‘Shallow’ with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt and Anthony Rossomando. And we made this song for Ally and Jack and it’s such a special song you know. It’s two people talking to each other and talking about the need and the drive to dive in to the deep end and stay away from the shallow area.”

Watch the music video for the song above which features a combination of Gaga and Cooper performing the track as their characters as well as footage from the upcoming film.

Watch Céline Dion and Deadpool exchange words in ‘Ashes’ video’

What happens when you combine two of Canada’s biggest and best exports (not maple syrup)? One funny music video. On Thursday (May 3), Céline Dion was confirmed as one of the many artists to have a song featured on the upcoming Deadpool 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. In conjunction with the announcement, the iconic songstress released the official music video for “Ashes.”

Like most of Dion’s videos, the clip features the singer doing what she does best; singing the ballad inside of a darken theater as footage from the film are interwoven with footage of her singing. The funny moments begins when Deadpool is seen in the same theater on the stage where Dion is currently residing. As she sings the song, the camera follows the anti-superhero as he performs an interpretive dance while in heels.

As if that wasn’t funny enough, just wait until the end of the clip when Dion and the Merc with a Mouth have a little bit of an exchange of words. Just keep an eye out for “beat it, Spider-Man!” Watch the music video for “Ashes” above.

In addition to Dion’s new song, the 12-track soundtrack will also include a new song from French Montana titled “Welcome to the Party” featuring  Diplo, Lil Pump and Zhavia Ward. Listen: Sade releases ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ contribution

Solider of love Sade is back! Last month, it was confirmed that the songstress would be one of the many artists to be featured on the upcoming A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack, concluding her eight-year hiatus from the music world. On Wednesday (March 7), Sade’s new song, “Flower of the Universe” was officially unveiled to an eagerly awaiting public.

According to the film’s director, Ava DuVernay, Sade’s song had such an impact on DuVernay that she ended up using some of the lyrics from the song in the actual film.

“My creative partnership with Sade on ‘Flower of the Universe’ was so connected that I reverse engineered the usual process and used her lyrics as actual dialogue within the film,” the director said in a press statement. Listen to “Flower of the Universe” above.

In addition to Sade, the A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack will feature music from Demi Lovato, Sia, Chloe x Halle, and Kehlani. Both the soundtrack and the film are set to be released this Friday, March 9.

A Wrinkle in Time is based on the 1962 novel by Madeleine L’Engle. The story follows 13-year-old Meg on a quest to find her missing father that leads her on an otherworldly voyage across dimensions.

As for Sade, the songstress’ last studio album was 2010’s Soldier of Love. After releasing the record, she went on hiatus. This isn’t the first time the musician has gone on hiatus following the release of a new album. After the release of 2000’s Lovers Rock, she did the same and went on a musical hiatus.

Sade, Demi Lovato, Sia lead ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ soundtrack

The film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time already has an outstanding cast, a passionate director, and a trailer that will make anyone want to disappear into the dreamy, but weird world. With all that under your belt, how exactly do you follow it up? Simple. You unveil the star-studded lineup for the film’s soundtrack.

On Tuesday (Feb. 20), director Ava DuVernay took to Twitter to officially announced the artists who contributed songs to the A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack. Leading the female-powered soundtrack is legendary singer Sade who has not released any new music since her last album, 2010’s Solider of Love. As per her tweet, DuVernay never imagined that the songstress would agree to contribute a song to the soundtrack, but like the true “goddess” that she is, Sade said yes.

“I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway,” DuVernay writes. “She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song for WRINKLE IN TIME. It’s entitled ‘Flower of the Universe.’ And it’s a dream come true.”

As if having Sade on the soundtrack wasn’t enough, DuVernay also revealed that the album will also feature music from Demi Lovato, Sia, Chloe x Halle, and Kehlani.

A Wrinkle in Time is based on the 1962 novel by Madeleine L’Engle. The story follows 13-year-old Meg on a quest to find her missing father that leads her on an otherworldly voyage across dimensions. The film is set to hit theaters on March 9.

The film stars Storm Reid as Meg Murray; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Meg’s mother, Dr. Kate Murry; Chris Pine as Meg’s father Dr. Alex Murry; Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit; Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who; and Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which.

5 Seconds of Summer become Ghostbusters in ‘Girls Talk Boys’ video

A week after releasing their contribution to the Ghostbusters soundtrack, 5 Seconds of Summer has released their music video for the new track. On Friday (July 22), the Australian band unveiled the official music video for their new funky song, “Girls Talk Boys.” The music video features the four guys dressed up in the iconic Ghostbusters uniform with guns including the blaster.

During the clip, they are seen cruising around in the Ecto-1, looking for ghosts and monster. Sadly, it doesn’t look like being a Ghostbuster is the most fitting job for the guys, as they scram every time a ghost/monster shows up. Let’s just say they shouldn’t quit their day jobs as musicians. Watch the music video for “Girls Talk Boys” below.

“Girls Talk Boys” is featured on the Ghostbusters remake’s soundtrack. The album, like the film, was released on July 15. The soundtrack also features songs by Walk the Moon, Wolf Alice, Elle King, and that not-so-good Fall Out Boy/Missy Elliot update of Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid).” Currently, 5 Seconds of Summer is in the middle of their massive “Sounds Live, Feels Live” summer tour. Tonight (July 25), the band is taking a much deserved break, but will continue their North American trek on Tuesday, July 26, when they touch down at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, OH. The remaining tour stops of the “Sounds Live, Feels Live” tour can be seen here.
