Slipknot Bassist Rushed to Hospital During Show

UPDATE:

Slipknot has commented on bassist Alessandro ‘V-Man’ Venturella’s hospitalization last night in Connecticut.

“After a medical emergency during last night’s show, we are relieved to let everyone know that our bass player, Alex ‘V-Man’ Venturella, is well on the road to recovery. Alex collapsed mid-set after feeling unwell and as a precautionary measure was taken to hospital where he was found to be suffering from severe dehydration. After recuperating overnight, he has now been discharged from hospital and is on his way back to his Slipknot family. All being well, Alex will be back onstage with us tomorrow in Mansfield, MA. We thank everyone who reached out with messages and well wishes for Alex and we look forward to be being back at full tilt for the rest of the Summer’s Last Stand tour.”

Slipknot were down a member last night (Aug. 2) during the Hartford, CT date of their “Summer’s Last Stand Tour.”

The metal band was a couple of tracks into their set when all of a sudden they left the stage. As it turned out, bassist Alessandro “Vman” Venturella had an unknown medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital. After a 20 minute break, the band returned to the stage as an eight-piece.

Before restarting the show, frontman Corey Taylor went on the microphone to update the fans on what had just taken place.

“I’m gonna let you know what’s going on right now,” began Taylor.

“I’m sorry to say that our bass player, Alex, had… Something happened. I’m not sure what happened. He’s been put into an ambulance and he’s going to the hospital right now as we speak. But I want you all to make fucking noise for him. Send him some fucking love. Now, we had a choice to come back out here. We’ve had to modify some shit, but we’re gonna keep on playing for you. It’s what we want, it’s what Alex would fucking want.”

Video of Taylor’s speech can be seen below.

At the time of this article being written, there had been no update on what exactly happened to Venturella. Slipknot did post on both Twitter and Facebook a short video featuring the Hartford crowd chanting Venturella name. The video of the united crowd can be seen below.

Tonight, the band has no shows scheduled, but tomorrow, they will hit the Xfinity Center in Boston. Here’s hoping that Venturella is feeling a little bit better.

Download Festival Unveil More Acts

image

The year hasn’t even ended yet, but Download Festival is already well underway with the unveiling the performers for next Summer’s event.

Previously, acts like Slipknot and A Day to Remember had been confirmed to take the stage during the weekend-long festival. Today, festival organizers have revealed a couple of more names that will head out to England to perform.

Muse, KISS, Mötley Crüe, Marilyn Manson, and Faith No More are the names that were added to the continuously growing line-up.

Muse will headline the event on Saturday night for the first time ever. Considering that the group have been around for almost 20 years, played stadiums, and call England home, it comes as a surprise that this would be their first time performing at the event.

“We’ve never played the festival before so it’s going to be really special,” the band said in a joint statement about their addition to the line up. Fittingly, the band’s upcoming new album will reportedly be released around the time of Download, at least according to frontman Matt Bellamy.

Also joining the line-up will be Faith No More. The last time they performed at Download was back in 2009, but this time will be different because they will be releasing a new album; their first in 18 years.

“The last time we played Download, the focus was on bringing back the past; now it’s all about the present and the future. Where it should be.”

Marilyn Manson has also been added to the growing list, but unlike his previous times at the festival, the shock rocker will be headlining the second stage rather than playing the main stage as a supporting act.

The final new addition to the line up will be Mötley Crüe who are currently in the middle of their “good-bye tour.” According to The Guardian, their appearance at Download will mark their last ever festival performance at a rock event before they officially call it a day on the band.

Download Festival will take place during the weekend of June 12-14, 2015 at Donington Park in England. Tickets for the event will go on sale beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Nov. 20).

Slipknot Frontman “Not Happy” About New Members Reveal

slipknot

When fans are given a mystery they really want the answer to, they could be better detectives than those at your police department.

When Slipknot announced that there were two new members in the band filling the two vacancies that the band had, fans were a little less than thrilled with the fact that frontman Corey Taylor had been mum about the real life identities of them.

Instead of waiting for Taylor to make an official announcement which he kind of hinted at, the fans went ahead and started to investigate and once the music video for “The Devil in I,” was released, it only confirmed the identity of at least one new member thanks to a distinct tattoo on the masked band member’s hand.

It just looked like the months of being discreet backfired in one simple scene.

“I was, like, ‘Why didn’t we make him wear gloves?’ I was so upset. I was, like, we thought of all this stuff. We put the hood on him and then the mask, and it was, like, ‘It’s really hot, guys,’ And then there is his tattoos for everybody [to see]. I was, like, ‘Well, we missed the mark on that one.’”

The new bassist was confirmed to be Alessandro “Vman” Venturella, guitar tech for bands like Mastodan and Coheed & Cambria.

And then the identity of the drummer was released soon after and was somewhat confirmed when Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace sent Slipknot a cryptic tweet about their choice in drummers. The news then surfaced that former Against Me! drummer Jay Weinberg, who quit via Twitter, was Slipknot’s new drummer.

When asked about the new members in a recent interview, Taylor revealed that they are not “official” members of Slipknot yet and that only time will tell if they get that position.

“They’re not official band members yet, but they are people who play with the band,” Taylor said.  “Time will tell whether or not they’re, like, full members. “With this band, you earn everything. You’re not just given that shot; you have to earn it. And so far, they’re doing really well. And we’re really enjoying jamming with them.”

Guess that explains why Weinberg and Venturella are wearing matching masks.

Slipknot New Members Unmasked?

wpid-slipknot_the_negative_one.jpeg

Have the identity of the new members of Slipknot been revealed?

Well, if you believe all the rumors and the recently released clues, it might just be true.

For the past few months, since the announcement of the metal band’s new album, Corey Taylor and company have managed to keep the identity of the two newcomers under lock and key even with two music videos already released and several interviews.

Today, it would seem that the identity of the drummer who would take the drumset that once belonged to longtime and recently outed member, Joey Jordison was unveiled.  The position, reportedly went to Jay Weinberg, son of E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg and former drummer for Against Me!.

Against Me! frontwoman, Laura Jane Grace kind of ousted the drummer’s identity (as well as a feud, we assume) a little while ago.

Grace wrote the following on Twitter.

Considering the drummer did quit the band through Twitter, we can understand why Grace is not exactly giving a glowing endorsement for the stickman and his new gig.

As for who is under the mask in the position left behind by the late Paul Gray, it was revealed last week that Alessandro “Vman” Venturella, guitar technician for Mastodon and Krokodil guitarist would be filling the vacancy that was temporarily filled by Donnie Steele following the passing of Gray.

Slipknot have yet to confirm the identities. One thing we know for sure, is that their new album .5: The Gray Chapter is expected to be released on Oct. 28.

Slipknot Reveal New Masks in “The Devil in I”

wpid-slipknot_the_negative_one.jpeg

Earlier this week, Corey Taylor revealed that the new members of Slipknot would be getting masks to fit the band’s image, but the new mask would be identical.

His reasoning behind the decision was to include them in the band, but at the same time,  not be disrespectful to the memories of the former members, late bassist, Paul Gray and recently released drummer, Joey Jordison).

But like with most of their albums, the other members of the group would receiving new mask and now, fans of the Iowa-based band are getting the change to see the new masks in the band’s newly released music video, “The Devil in I.”

“The Devil in I” is the band’s second music video and single from their upcoming album, .5: The Gray Chapter. The first single off of the upcoming record was “The Negative One” which sealed the confirmation that the new record was on its way when they streamed the song on their website a few months back. .

.5: The Gray Chapter is due out on Oct. 21 through Roadrunner Records. Though there has been no official confirmation on who will be filling the void left by Gray and Jordison, we are expecting that to be revealed soon since the album is almost here.

There’s also that little issue of their North American, “Prepare for Hell” tour with Korn and King 810.

Slipknot Frontman Talks New Masks, New Album

wpid-slipknot_the_negative_one.jpeg

Slipknot is probably more well-known for their crazy and outrageous masks and how they tend to change the designs of them depending on their albums. With two important members of the group gone from the line-up and no current replacements known, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor was recently asked about those iconic masks that distinguish each individual member.

In the interview, Taylor revealed that one design had been created for the incoming bassist and drummer. Though that sounds like they are trying to not include them in the group, Taylor reveals why they decided to take that path.

“We wanted to make something that still looked unified but still stayed with the spirit of what the band is all about. Instead of trying to find something that was individualistic, we designed — well, Clown designed a mask that the drummer and the bass player will both wear. On one hand they get a mask but at the same time, it’s not the individual mask that we in the band use.

We knew that any attempt to do anything like that might be taken as disrespectful, but at the same time it’s part of the way of moving, getting past the hardest steps, which is just moving on. So, we decided that we would come up with a mask that works for both the bassist and the drummer and that’s what they’ll wear on stage.”

Considering that this was the first album that was recorded without founding members, Paul Gray who died of an accidental overdose in 2010 and Joey Jordison who “left” the band earlier this year, Taylor had also been asked what it was like recording without them.

“I don’t know if it was uncomfortable, but the big difference was that it was the first album that we were doing without Paul, without Joe, and you know when you find yourself in a situation like that you either fall back on your heels or you rise to the occasion and you ask yourself how can we kind of fill in those blanks and still make the kind of music we want to listen to?

So I think that the biggest thing for us was to just fill in some really big shoes. Luckily we really rose to the occasion and really kind of went above and beyond as far as musically. I’m loving this new album. I mean just as not only as a person who’s in Slipknot but just as a fan of music like this. I really love what we’ve done on this album.”

Slipknot’s fifth studio album .5: The Gray Chapter is set to be released on Oct. 21 through Roadrunner. In support of the new record, Slipknot will be hitting the road on their “Prepare for Hell” tour alongside Korn and King 810.
