According to source before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Green Day were going to make a big announcement at the event.
Sadly, the event has now come and gone and no announcement was made. Like most, we assumed that the announcement would be confirmation that the California band had returned to the recording studio and were in the process of putting together a new album.
Today, it sounds like our guess might have been on the right track.
Speaking with Kerrang! for an interview, longtime Green Day producer Rob Cavallo revealed that the band (more like frontman Billie Joe Armstrong) currently have five songs written for this still unknown record.
“I recently heard five new songs that Billie has written and demoed,” begins Cavallo.
“Let me tell you, they were just fantastic. He is absolutely at the top of his game. Fans can be sure that when they do return, the music will be amazing.”
Considering that Green Day’s last project, 2012’s ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! trilogy was met with lukewarm reception from both the media and fans, here’s hoping that the break has helped bring out the best in them.
