Florence and the Machine will reportedly release new song for Record Store Day

Could new Florence and the Machine music be closer than we all originally anticipated? If fans are to believe what was posted on a Dutch Record Store Day website, then the answer is yes. Over the weekend, Stereogum reported that the United Kingdom-founded act will release their first new song in almost two years just in time for the annual music lovers’ holiday.

According to the article, which notes that the original posting was taken down, Florence and the Machine’s new song will be titled “Sky Full of Song.” The new song will come in the form of  a clear, 7-inch vinyl and will be available on April 21 (aka Record Store Day). Though no further information was given, it does come a month after Virgin Records CEO Ted Cockle confirmed that Florence Welch and company will release new music before the end of 2018.

“We are looking forward to great new music from Florence + the Machine, Blossoms, CHVRCHES, James Bay and Shawn Mendes,” Cockle said in his interview with Virgin boss, Richard Branson.

“Sky Full of Song” will be Welch and company’s first new song in almost two years. Back in 2016, they contributed a total of three songs to Songs from Final Fantasy XV. The provided tracks included two original songs (“Too Much is Never Enough” and “I Will Be”) and a cover of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me.”

While they did provide two new songs to the soundtrack, Florence and the Machine’s last studio album was 2015’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful.
