What happens when two of the world’s biggest band come together for a pick-up basketball game? Apparently, someone comes out losing with a broken nose.

During this weekend’s Auckland installment of the Big Day Out Festival, Pearl Jam fan Sherif Hassan revealed that during a particularly aggressive game of pick-up basketball, he suffered a broken nose. According to him, it was the last play of the game which included Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament.

In an interview with Triple J radio, Hassan explained what happened during that game.

“[Jeff Ament’s] aggressive, I’ll tell you that much. He broke my nose.” He added “it was actually the last play of the game. All I heard was Win [Butler] going off about how the rules are rubbish down here, and throwing balls around and chucking a bit of a hissy fit.”

But it looks like the broken nose might have been just fine for Hassan who got an impressive consolation prize thanks to his injury. He got to go backstage at the festival and meet Lorde, Major Lazer, Mac Miller and even got a shout out from Eddie Vedder.

But then again, Butler has a rough history with basketball and that should have been warning enough.
