Phoenix to release ‘Ti Amo’ in June

Almost a month after announcing a massive world tour scheduled for this summer, Phoenix has officially confirmed new music. On Tuesday (April 25), the French band revealed that they will be releasing their sixth studio album just in time for their much-anticipated tour. The record will be titled Ti Amo and is set to hit stores on June 9 through Glassnote Records.

During their show this past weekend in Antwerp, Belgium, the group debuted the title track from the record, “Ti Amo.” Watch a fan shot video from the show above. The Belgium show not only gave fans a taste of the new record, it also marked the band’s first live show in three years. The last time they hit the road was back in 2014 in support of their fifth studio album, Bankrupt! The complete list of upcoming tour dates can be seen here.

Earlier this week, the New York Time sat down with the band to discuss the new record. During the sit down guitarist Christian Mazzalai revealed how the album was recorded during a dark period in the group’s hometown of Paris where they were recording the album.

“At some point when we were in the studio, there was a slight sense of guilt. But we were comforted by the idea that the four of us working wasn’t escapism or denial,” Mazzalai said to the publication. “When that became clear, the guilt disappeared.”

Mirroring Mazzalai’s sentiment was Daniel Glass, head of Phoenix’s record label, Glassnote. “I think the record came out of darkness, out of concern,” he begins. “But what’s resulted is this incredibly colorful record. And what we’re hearing from everybody, from KCRW to Apple to Pandora to Spotify, is that they’re loving this record. Because it makes them feel good.” Read the complete New York Times interview here.

Phoenix to embark on massive world tour

It’s been a while since fans have heard anything from team Phoenix, but now, things have changed. On Monday (March 27), the French band announced a lengthy world tour. The upcoming tour will kick off on May 12 at the Fillmore Miami Beach in Miami and conclude on September 30 at the Alexandra Palace in London. Whitney, Lemon Twigs, and Miike Snow will take turns opening for the group during the trek. Whitney will open during the first leg, Lemon Twigs will take over for the second leg, and Miike Snow will wrap open during the final leg of the tour.

In addition to their headlining gigs, the group will also make several appearances at a handful of music festivals including Atlanta’s Shaky Knees, New York’s Governors Ball, Japan’s Summersonic, and many more.

This upcoming tour will be the band’s first tour in almost three years. The last time they hit the road was back in 2014 in support of their fifth studio album, Bankrupt! The tour news comes weeks after the band took to social media to tease new music. Though they haven’t confirmed a new album, there’s only a matter of time before the electro-pop act confirms the release of their sixth studio album.

Tickets for the upcoming tour stops are currently available here while the complete list of tour dates can be seen below.

Phoenix Release New Music Video

phoenix

“Trying to be Cool” might be the name of Phoenix’s music video but that begs the question, are the French electro-rock group trying to be cool in it?

But then again, how hard is it to be cool when you have ladies in bikinis for no reason, guys blowing bubbles, cannons, a Marilyn Monroe tribute, an angry kid playing chess, solo ping pong, and a sweet dance sequence?

Oh yeah, there are also snippets of the band performing but come on.

Anyway, the video can be seen below.

“Trying to be Cool” is featured on the band’s recent release, Bankrupt! which they will be touring for all the way until late November where they will wrap up their world tour in Düsseldorf, Germany.
