Listen: Marianas Trench share new track ‘Echoes of You’

A week after unleashing “Only the Lonely Survive,” Marianas Trench have returned with another new song from their upcoming album. On Friday (Feb. 8), the Vancouver-founded band premiered the lyrics video for “Echoes of You.” Unlike “Only the Lonely Survive,” which was a straight-up pessimistic take on a relationship, this one seems to shed the ultra-negative outlook with its poppy sound and less dark lyrics.

Also, if you pay close attention to the chorus, the band makes a slight Easter egg reference to Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart.

“Echoes of You” joins previously released songs “Only the Lonely Survive” and lead single “I Knew You When” on the act’s upcoming album PhantomsPhantoms — the foursome’s fifth studio effort— is due out March 1 via 604 Records. Pre-orders are available here.

Phantoms is the follow-up to the quartet’s 2015 release, Astoria.

Back in December, Marianas Trench announced plans to embark on a United States-centric tour in support of the new record’s release. Dubbed the Suspending Gravity tour, the forthcoming outing will find the band performing at venues across the country throughout the months of May and June.

The Suspending Gravity tour begins on May 1 at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia and concludes a little over a month later on June 5 at the House of Blues in Anaheim.

Marianas Trench plot US-centric tour for spring 2019

It’s been a while since Marianas Trench last toured the United States, but now, it looks like the group is ready to take a trip a little more south than they’re used to. Earlier this week, the Canadian four-piece announced plans to embark on a U.S.-centric tour during the spring.

Dubbed the “Suspending Gravity” tour, the upcoming excursion will find the act visiting venues across the country during the months of May and June. Marianas Trench will stop in several major cities including New York, Boston, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, Chicago, Seattle, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and more.

The 23-stop jaunt will begin on May 1 at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia and conclude a little over a month later on June 5 at the House of Blues in Anaheim.

According to a press release, the upcoming tour will give fans “more of an up-close-and personal live experience and feature the powerhouse Vancouver quartet’s signature high-energy performance.”

Tickets for the upcoming trek are available for purchase on the band’s website.

The “Suspending Gravity” tour will be in support of the band’s forthcoming new album. Titled Phantoms, the record is due out in 2019. Phantoms is the follow-up to the group’s 2015 release —and “Goonies” inspired album— Astoria.

Prior to announcing the springtime excursion, the band released the first single off Phantoms, “I Knew You When.” According to the band, the track is about moving on from a former relationship even though there’s still some lingering memories and feelings.

“This is about long-term, messy, real-life love,” explains frontman Josh Ramsay.

“Love with consequence. Not about drunken lust, or doing shots in a bar, or ‘living life for just tonight,’ but the kind of real-life relationship that takes a decade to build, through ups and downs. If I’ve learned one thing in my life as a performer it’s this; if you’re going to sing a song every night for the rest of your career, you better mean it – and I do.”
