First wave of Alternative Press Music Awards performers announced

The Journeys Alternative Press Music Awards, Fueled by Monster Energy Drink is a couple of months away from happening and the people behind the annual music awards have just unveiled the first wave of performers. On Monday (April 17), Alternative Press unveiled that bands like All Time Low, New Years Day, Sleeping with Sirens, Pierce the Veil, and The Pretty Reckless, and more are just some of the artists heading to Ohio in mid-July.

In addition to the above mentioned acts, rap icon Bone Thugs (the extension of Bone Thugs N Harmony), Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Against Me!, Machine Gun Kelly, and metal icons Korn will also grace the stage during the show.

“We’re really excited to perform at this year’s awards and are looking forward to seeing all our fans in Cleveland,” Korn frontman Jonathan Davis said in a statement. “I performed at the first ever APMAs back in 2014 with Asking Alexandria, and it’s been awesome to watch how this show has grown over the years.”

Tickets for the rock music-centric awards show are currently on sale at Alternative Press‘ website. In addition to general tickets which will set you back $40, several VIP packages are available including the Monster VIP Table, the Ultimate VIP, and Premium Seating packages.

The fourth annual Alternative Press Music Awards is set to take place on July 17 at the Quicken Loans Arena in the publication’s hometown of Cleveland. Unlike the past two years, this year’s awards show will be hosted by Black Veil Bride/Andy Black head honcho, Andy Biersack.

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will air live tonight beginning at 8 p.m. EST on CBS. We will be live updating throughout the show the winners’ list so keep an eye out for that.

American Music Awards Announced Performers

The American Music Awards already announced the nominees for this year’s award show earlier this month, as well as the identity of this year’s host; once again Pitbull will hold down the fort as the MC of the evening, but the performers were left out.

Dick Clark Productions, who produce the award show, have revealed that Mary J. Blige as well as newcomers 5 Seconds of Summer and Sam Smith will take the stage at this year’s event due to take place next month.

All three recently added performers are also nominated for awards this year. Mary J. Blige is nominated in the “Favorite Female Artists- Soul/R&B” category while  Smith and the boys of 5SOS, both will go head to head in the “New Artists of the Year Award presented by Kohls” category.

Previously, Charli XCX was confirmed to perform at the AMAs when the initial nomination announcement was made a few weeks back. The British singer is also nominated for an award for her contribution on Iggy Azalea’s Summer staple, “Fancy.” Her breakout song “Boom Clap” was featured on The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack which also earned a nomination for “Top Soundtrack” though its got tough competition from the Frozen Soundtrack and Guardians of the Galaxy’s Awesome Mix.

The American Music Award will take place on Nov. 23 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles while the show will be broadcast live on ABC.

South By Southwest Reveal Preliminary Musicians List

South by Southwest will be returning to Austin, TX next March, as always, and today the festival has announced the first wave of artists who will be performing at the annual event.

Artists confirmed in the first wave of reveals include: The Dodos, Jessie Ware, The Pop Group, Thee Oh Sees, Carl Barat and The Jackals, Twin Peaks, The Twilight Sad, The Big Pink, Ben Kweller, Mew, Courtney Barnett, Twerps, Black Milk, Bishop Nehru, Alvvays, Pharmakon, Lust For Youth, Dry the River, Hey Marseilles, Moon Duo, The Octopus Project, Sleep ∞ Over, Ume, The Stone Foxes, Jonathan Toubin, Warm Soda, Natural Child, The Lonely Wild, Civil Twilight, Cheerleader, and Angus & Julia Stone.

At the end of the full reveal, there will be over 1,000 acts descending in Austin for SXSW.

SXSW will take place from March 13 to March 22 with the musical portions of the event taking placing from March 17-22. If you’re interested in going, don’t wait too long, badges to attend are currently on sale on the festival’s website.

NFL to Charge Artists to Play Halftime Show

We all know that the National Football League does not pay artists to perform at the famous Super Bowl’s Halftime Show because they believe that the exposure that the artists get during “football’s biggest night,” is worth the money the artists are out.

Today, word has gotten out that the NFL will keep up this tradition, but now, they have added something else to the mix; artists will have to pay in order to perform during the high-rated halftime show.

“In a twist this year, the league has asked artists under consideration for the high-profile gig to pay to play,” reports the Wall Street Journal. As if the subject of having to pay to play a show wasn’t already a big issue in the music world for up and coming artists and venues.

Not only did the WSJ report this, but they also claim the league have also revealed the top three contenders for the high-profiled show. Those that are apparently being considered are Rihanna, Coldplay, and Katy Perry. Guess that petition we signed a while ago to get “Weird Al” Yankovich to perform was thrown to the side. Darn.

Though there has been no official confirmation, some NFL employees have allegedly begun to approach the three acts to see if “they would be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution in exchange for the halftime gig.”

As it was predicted, the WSJ have claimed that the response to their offer has been less than lackluster. Considering what the NFL wants in return for the gig, they would be lucky to get the guy who plays spoons on the corner to come in and perform for the halftime show. Is it us, or does this somewhat resemble that pesky epidemic of payola which we are sure is still going on. MTV Video Music Awards Reveal Full List of Performers

The MTV Video Music Awards are right around the corner and the annual music award show has finally unveiled the full list of performers that are slated to take the stage to perform.

For the last few weeks, the former music television network had been revealing performers once at a time to prolong the suspense for those who tune in annually.

Today, Sam Smith was revealed as the last performer on the list. Throughout the past weeks, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea, Maroon 5, Usher, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer and Beyoncé (who will also be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award) had been revealed to be taking the stage at some point during the normally two and a half hour music-centric award program.

In the award nomination portion of the show, Beyoncé leads this year’s pack with a grand total of eight while fellow performer, Iggy Azalea trails behind with seven nominations.

This year, MTV will be introducing a new category to the award show, the MTV Clubland Award which will capitalize on the recent popularity of electronic dance music (EDM).

Billboard Music Award Performers and Presenters List

Tonight is one of Billboard Magazine’s biggest night, the Billboard Music Awards. With one of the most anticipated performances of the night being a tribute to the late Michael Jackson, you know since his post-mortem album Xscape just finished coming out, fans of pop music and top 100 are slated to flock to ABC to watch the ceremony go on.

Billboard Music Award Reveal Performers

The other day we got the full list of nominees for this year’s Billboard Music Awards and now, some of the performers for the show have been revealed.

Previously, it was announced that Jason Derulo, who broke the news about the nominees on Good Morning America a few days ago, would be performing on the award show. Also joining the “Talk Dirty to Me” singer will be Luke Bryan, John Legend, OneRepublic and Imagine Dragons.

Imagine Dragons leads the pack with a total of 12 nominations including “Top Artist,” “Top Duo/Group,” “Top Hot 100 Artist,” “Top Digital Songs Artist,” “Top Radio Songs Artist,” “Top Streaming Artist,” “Top Rock Artist,” “Top Rock Album,” “Top Hot 100 Song,” “Top Digital Song,” “Top Streaming Song (Audio),” and “Top Rock Song” twice, for “Demons” and “Radioactive.”

The Las Vegas-based band are tied with Lorde for the most nominations at this year’s event that is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

Bryan comes in with a total of six nominations this year, the most that any country artist has ever gotten. His nominations include “Top Male Artist,” “Top Billboard 200 Artist,” “Top Country Artist,” “Top Billboard 200 Album,” “Top Country Album” and “Top Country Song” twice.

John Legend is up for one award this year, the Milestone Award while OneRepublic comes in with two nominations for “Top Duo/Group” and “Top Digital Song” for their hit “Counting Stars.”

San Fran’s Outside Lands Festival Announces Acts

The Outside Lands Festival isn’t slated to happen until August, but the organizers have already unveiled who will be performing at this year’s event and like many of the festivals happening this Summer, it’s one that you do not want to miss. 

Headlining the event will be Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers who will make history by being the only performer to headline the show twice. Kanye West, the Killers, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, the Arctic Monkeys and Tiësto will round out the headlining spots when the three-day event returns to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. 

But if you though that the headlining line-up were impressive then you are in for a surprise because the supporting acts are just as good as those taking the main stage. Supporting acts will include:  Death Cab for Cutie, the Flaming Lips, Disclosure, Ray LaMontagne, Kacey Musgraves, Spoon, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Tegan & Sara, Haim, Chromeo, Duck Sauce, Cut Copy, Atmosphere, Lykke Li, Capital Cities, Ben Howard, SBTRKT, Jenny Lewis, Local Natives, Phosphorescent, Chvrches, Paolo Nutini, John Butler Trio, Boys Noize, Christopher Owens, Run the Jewels (El-P and Killer Mike), Warpaint, Deer Tick, Holy Ghost!, Big Freedia, Dum Dum Girls, Bleachers, The Kooks and Mikal Cronin.

The Outside Lands festival is scheduled to take place during the weekend of August 8-10 while pre-sales will go up on April 10th at 10 a.m. PDT on the Outside Lands website. Aside from all the cool musical acts, the festival will also host 200 gourmet food and drink options including their Wine and Beer Lands, Choco Lands, and Cheese Lands.

Fashion Meets Music Festival Reveals Line-Up

Whoever said that music and fashion go together was definitely onto something and the fact that it has taken this long to combine the two into a festival is a surprise.

A few months ago, it was revealed that a new festival that combined both music and fashion would be making its debut in Ohio later this year. At the time it was a pipe dream that was on the verge of becoming the real thing.

Now, with the reveal of the line-up of performers, this dream has quickly become a dream come true for the founders.

On the music side of the event, Circa Survive, Local Native, Parachute, Switchfoot, New Found Glory and many more have already been confirmed with the announcement that was made yesterday. On the fashion side of the event, designers such as , local designer Kelli Martin, who competed on “Project Runway” is set to appear on behalf of her brand, Alternative Fashion Mob.

Fashion Meets Music Festival (FMMF) is slated to take place from August 29-31 in Columbus, OH around the Arena District. Expo tickets start at $10 while the “Access to Excess” passes can run you $200. For more information about the festival, you can head on over to their website.
