One Direction Head to Space in “Drag Me Down”

1D

After the devastating news that original One Direction member, Zayn Malik had left the group, Directioners were at a crossroad wondering just how the band would adapt to the departure. Turned out, that almost as fast as Malik announced his departure, the rest of the band continued forward and released their first new single sans him; “Drag Me Down.”

Now, a couple of weeks after the song was released, the band has given their loyal fan base the music video for the song. The music video finds the four-piece heading to NASA to train to be astronauts. Since becoming an astronaut is not as easy as we all think, the boys go through several training sessions before they are able to finally get into their space craft, which they do at the end of the video, and launch into space to explore the “final frontier.”

Check out the music video for “Drag Me Down” below and try not get that feeling you did as a little kid when you would tell people you wanted to become and astronaut.

As of now, there’s no word on when a new One Direction record is set to be released, though “Drag Me Down” is the official lead single off of the yet-to-be-titled fifth studio album. Apparently, there’s some speculation that it might be heading our way sometime in the fall. Until then, Directioners will have to wait.

Listen to “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” Cover

PAY-Band-Aid-30-line-up

Last week, we were informed that Bob Geldof would be remaking the charity song “Do they Know It’s Christmas” to raise awareness, and we assume funds, to help combat the Ebola epidemic.

Much like when the song was first recorded, Geldof brought together many big name from the current music world who call the United Kingdom home.

Previously confirmed for the song included: Ellie Goulding, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Underworld, Sinead O’Connor, Bastille, and Elbow. At the time of the announcement, Geldof had said that a veteran from the original song as well as other artists would be revealed.

Check out the song below and see if you can spot the veteran artists among the youngsters as well as those other special guest who were not confirmed originally.

The BandAid cover comes 30 years after the original was recorded (1984) in hope to raise funds to help combat hunger.

According to Geldof, an American version of the song will be recorded as well. That version will be produced by Quincy Jones. There, reportedly, also be a German and French version of the song in the future.

The “Do They Know It’s Christmas” cover made its debut on ITV’s The X Factor last night and has already, reportedly, raised one million dollars.

U.K. Artists to Record Christmas Chairty Song to Help Combat Ebola

wpid-ed_sheeran_pr_2014_l.jpeg

With the holidays right around the corner, we’re about to begin to hear tons of Christmas songs on the radio and see the never-ending cycle of Christmas movies on the television screen (just look at the Hallmark channel).

One of the good things about the holidays is when artists come together to record a song whose proceeds will go directly to help support a charity.

Irish singer-songwriter, Bob Geldof has revealed plans to re-record U.K. charity single, “Do They Know It’s Christmas” for the fourth time since its debut in 1984. In the description of the song, it states that “it’s designed to fight the Ebola epidemic,” so we’re going to assume that they will help combat the Ebola epidemic with all the proceeds the track will make from sales.

For this version of the holiday charity single, the singer has revealed that he has gotten Bono, Ellie Goulding, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Underworld, Sinead O’Connor, Bastille, and Elbow to lend their vocals for the track. (We’re wondering how the Goulding and Sheeran will react to each other at the recording session after the “Don’t” chronicles.)

But, if that wasn’t enough, reportedly more acts will be revealed right before the recording session.

“We called up some of the giants of the past and our own contemporaries, equally giant, and they said they’d come again to the party, ” Geldof said in a press conference earlier in the day.

Paul Epworth who previously worked with One Direction and Adele has been tapped to produce the song.

Unlike the original version of the song which was created to help combat hunger in Africa, the newly record song will have change of lyrics to reflect the new battle at bay, but they will keep its iconic chorus.

“[And what] they were dying of in 1984 was of course hunger, but they died essentially because they were poor. We know we can contain Ebola; we have doctors, the nurses, medicines and state systems. We have money. They’re dying again because they are extremely poor. That is radically unacceptable,” continued Geldof.

Geldof confirmed Quincy Jones will be working on a similar version in the United States while there will also be a French and German version created.

BBC Form Supergroup to Cover Beach Boys Song

BBC

What happens when you get together tons of musicians for a worthy cause? Usually one hell of a song.

Thanks to the BBC, tons of musicians were asked to come together to cover the Beach Boys “God Only Knows” from Pet Sounds to officially launch of BBC Music. The TV spot featuring the reported 27 artists began to air yesterday (Oct. 7).

Pharrell Williams, Elton John, Chris Martin, Florence Welch, Stevie Wonder, Brian May, One Direction, Chrissie Hynde, Baaba Maal, Sam Smith, Lorde, Dave Grohl and many more can be spotted in the video. Also making the list of performers was Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys; how else do you pay homage to the guy (or band) that wrote and the song.

As if the long list of singers on the track wasn’t enough to get your head spinning, the BBC also used their 80-piece BBC Concert Orchestra on the song.

We warned you, epic might be an understatement. Give the track as listen.

When asked by The Guardian about the remake of the song, Wilson said: “All the artists did such a beautiful job. I can’t thank them enough. I’m just honored ‘God Only Knows’ was chosen. ‘God Only Knows’ is a very special song. An extremely spiritual song and one of the best I’ve ever written.”

The cover will be released as a single to raise funds for the BBC’s Children in Need charity. This isn’t the first time the BBC has done such a supergroup for charity. Back in 1997, the network released a version of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” featuring Elton John, Bono, and Reed himself.

“Steal My Girl”…Steal My Song?

wpid-new-found-glory-2014-promo-by-lindsey-byrnes-1024x681.jpeg

Well, it seems like a little feud is on the horizon for One Direction from one of our most covered bands: New Found Glory.

Yesterday, the boy band released their new song “Steal My Girl” and in no time at all, it seemed that some fans of NFG who actually heard the song, realized that there was a piano riff ehich sounded oddly familiar. Turns out, the oddly familiar riff is one that can be found on NFG’s song “It’s Not Your Fault” from the band’s 2006 album, Coming Home.

Guitarist Chad Gilbert took to Twitter to jokingly call out One Direction and ask for his “cut” of their profits.

Of course, Directioners being a vicious breed of fans, took aim at Gilbert on Twitter. Gilbert didn’t let that slide and made another dig at the fan base by telling them “second period is starting”, taking aim at the fact that a vast majority are still in middle school maybe the beginning high school. (Please try not to sing the last part of the first Tweet to the tune of “It’s Not Your Fault.)

But if that wasn’t enough Gilbert’s girlfriend and Paramore frontwoman, Hayley Williams also spoke out about the similarities between both songs.

Williams quickly cleared up her side of the story by saying that it wasn’t so much the boy band’s fault as it was the people who co-wrote the song’s fault.

This shouldn’t shock anyone because One Direction have been known to “borrow” things from other artists and pass it off as their own.

But then again, should Gilbert be complaining and fighting a bunch of pre-teens over this because like it has been pointed out online, both songs ripped off Journey’s 1983 hit “Faithfully.”

2014 MTV Europe Music Award Nominees Unveiled

It feels like it’s only been a few weeks since the MTV Video Music Awards took place (which we think it did) and now the music network has revealed the nominees for the European version of the award ceremony.

For being an award show due to take place across the pond, quite a big chunk of the nominees seem to be from North America, unless you count those nominated for regional awards.

Ariana Grande comes in next with six nominations while Pharrell and 5 Seconds of Summer are tied with a total of five. One Direction Accused of Music Video Plagiarism

One-Direction-YouandI

Bad news for the guys of One Direction; the boy band have been accused of ripping of their new music video.

Last week, the band released the music video for their newest single, “You & I” and now an Australian company is accusing them of stealing the idea for the music video. OhYeahWow, the production company behind videos for Aloe Blacc, Ben Folds Five and Gotye noticed that there were similarities between the boy band’s video and the music video from another act, Clubfeet which they had created.

Within hours of the band releasing the music video for the track, the production company had taken to their social media accounts to point out all the similarities between “You & I” and Clubfeet’s “Everything You Wanted” which was released last year.

Ouch.

In the post, the link that was provided would lead the reader to the company’s website where they have both One Direction and Clubfeet’s videos to watch. In the (lengthy) statement provided with the videos, the company ask that the reader watches both videos to make their own sound judgement.

The statement continues with the company not saying that they are against One Direction, but the fact that they spend tireless hours coming up with the concept, only for someone to come in and take the idea straight from the video. They also said that they don’t want the future generations to believe that Clubfeet stole One Direction’s music video idea when Clubfeet’s was not only released a year before, but it had won an award for it.

At the time, neither One Director or Ben Winston, the director of the video have commented on the accusations against them.

What do you guys think, be honest, did One Direction’s people steal the idea from OhYeahWow, or are they taking this too serious? Check out both videos below and you decide.
