Did you know that the word spastic is a derogatory term for people with cerebral palsy in certain parts of the world? Well, if you didn’t then you are part of the majority that did not know that, including “Weird Al” Yankovic.
Last week, the comedian released one of his new songs “Word Crime”, a parody of Robin Thicke’s hit song, “Blurred Lines.” The lyric with the offensive lines goes: “Saw your blog post/ It’s really fantastic/ That was sarcastic (Oh, Psych!)/ ‘Cause your write like a spastic.”
Simple, right? No need for bad blood. And that’s where you are wrong. While the vast majority of us were laughing at the song content, some people had taken offense to the “spastic” and showed their opinion of the matter. Weird Al took to Twitter to clarify that he had no idea that the word is an offensive term.
Even if he did know that, we doubt that “Weird Al” would use offensive terms to bring in listeners; he’s classier than that. All the man really wants to do is make parodies, play polka and make people “LMFAO!”
“Weird Al’s” new album Mandatory Fun was released last week and will reportedly earn the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart this week,
