Watch Karen O. Perform in Fan’s Living Room

wpid-karen-o-thr-nominee-party-650-430.jpeg

You cannot deny that Karen O. is not only adorable, but the woman has one hell of a voice which has earned her an Academy Award nomination and a lots of fans.

With the release of her debut album, Crush Songs, the songstress gave fans the chance to listen to songs from the new record live before its official release date two weeks ago.

But while the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have headlined club gigs and bigger venues in the past, O. decided that she wanted these listening parties to be small and intimate which is what led her to performing in some of her fans’ living rooms rather than at bigger locations.

How many people can say that they’ve had an Oscar nominee sing for them in their living room? Not very many.

A video posted by YouTube user, Sofar Sound shows O. performing one of her solo songs, and singles, “Rapt” in New York City last month at one of those listening parties.

Check out the video below.

Karen O.’s debut record, Crush Songs was released on Sept. 9. through Julian Casablancas’ record label, Cult Records and even gave fans the chance to listen to all the new songs a week ahead of time through Soundcloud.

Watch The Strokes Return to the Stage After Three Years

strokes

We might be a little late to the party with this one, but The Strokes finally returned to the stage for the first time this weekend after a three-year hiatus from it all. The band performed in Port Chester, NY on Saturday, a warm-up gig, if you will, for their anticipated performance at the Governors Ball Music Festival.

What the band did during this show was showcase all their music with a career-spanning setlist with tracks from all five of their studio albums including “Reptilia,” “Heart in a Cage,”12:51” and many more.

While some were indifferent to their last album, Comedown Machine, three songs from that album made their way onto the setlist including “Welcome to Japan,” “Happy Ending” and one of the singles, “One Way Trigger.”

Check out some fan shot videos, though we do not agree with their decision to watch a one of a kind show through a camera.

Their loss is our gain.

Miss May I Fan Dies After Show

wpid-miss-may-rise-of-the-lion-20141

Miss May I might be finishing up their current small venue tour in support of their new album, Rise of the Lion, but sadly, this weekend something happened to one of their fans during the show. Alberto Scott, a 21-year-old fan of the metalcore band collapsed outside of The Studio at Webster Hall in New York this past Saturday.

Originally, it was reported that he had hit his head on the floor when he staged dived from the stage into the audience. Many venues, due to this consequence, have become aware of it and began to enforce a zero tolerance for stage diving (posted signs and security at the foot of the stage have been added to several venues).

The BrooklynVegan was the first to report about the incident, getting first hand accounts on what happened, with bystanders even claiming that he had not hit his head and collapsed like it had been assumed, but rather it all happened outside the venue.

Webster Hall did post on Facebook that “the patron in question did not die while stage diving. The patron collapsed while exiting the venue, as video footage and the police corroborate.”

At the moment, neither the venue or the band have released a full-length statement about the event. Last night, Miss May I did post a letter to fans, promising to release a full statement about Scott’s death, soon.

The band wrote: “Hey everyone, we are aware of the incident that occurred at Webster Hall last night and will be posting a statement shortly. However, we are awaiting further information regarding the situation before we are able to make a full statement.”

According to many of Scott’s friend who quickly went online to post their condolences and sentiments about his passing, revealed that he lived and breathed music and even had posted a picture of him with Miss May I vocalist, Levi Benton.

He is survived by his sister who lives in Florida.

VH1 to Hold “Super Bowl Blitz” Concert Series

sb

While football fans are getting excited for the Super Bowl, fans of music might have something to look forward to that weekend as well; a whole lot of music.

VH1 is taking charge and hosting not one or two concerts in preparation for football’s biggest night, instead the network has revealed that they will be holding a series of six concerts in New York City’s five boroughs and one in New Jersey beginning on Monday, January 27. The concert series has been named VH1’s Super Bowl Blitz.

The shows will feature a slew of artists including: J. Cole at Queens College (Jan. 27), Janelle Monae at Lehman College in The Bronx (Jan. 28), Fall Out Boy at Brooklyn Bowl (Jan. 29), TLC at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre (Jan. 30), Goo Goo Dolls at Staten Island’s St. George Theatre (Jan. 31) and Gavin DeGraw at Montclair, New Jersey’s Wellmont Theatre (Feb. 1).

“Normally we would do one big show in the market where Super Bowl is being played, as we have with All American Rejects to Maroon to B.o.B. to Rihanna – twice,” VH1 president Tom Calderone said about the network’s decision.

“But we wanted to celebrate the fact that it’s not only in New York and New Jersey for the first time, and it’s an opportunity to do an outdoors, against-the-elements kind of show.”

The concerts will air live each night on VH1 at 11 p.m. ET/PT and stream live via the VH1 mobile app and at SuperBowl.VH1.com.

For those wanting to go to the shows or live in that area, tickets will be made available starting Monday, January 13, but you will have to keep your Twitter account locked down to VH1’s official Twitter (@VH1) for more information.

Brand New to Perform Four Full Album Shows

brandnew

Ladies and gents and fans of Brand New, it has now been confirmed that the band will in fact be going back on tour but before you start making your way to those ticket buying site, you might want to know that as of now, it’s just four dates.

In a statement released by the band which can be read below, they explain that due to having such a good time during their stint on Riot Fest, they have decided to grace four different venues with full album performances just in times for Christmas. They explain that they will be performing two shows on the east coast and two shows on the west coast; sorry middle America (their words, not ours).

Anyways, check out the full message below from Jesse Lacey and company and maybe you should be looking into airplane tickets aside from show tickets.

To our fans and friends,

The recent shows we played around and including the Riot Fests in Colorado and Chicago were such a great time for us and we wanted to thank you all for the response, once again, to our erratic and spontaneous show scheduling. We had so much fun. So much, in fact, that we all decided we would like to do a few more shows before the end of the year.  And since we have been working on some new material, we decided that it would be fun to try to go back and play all of our previous material.

That’s right, all of it.

So we have booked 4 shows,  2 on the east coast and 2 on the west (sorry middle America), and we will play two complete albums each night. Since we want to cover everything, we are going to try to include all B-sides relating to each album as well on their corresponding nights.

The shows will be December 9th and 10th at the Observatory in Santa Ana, California, December 20th at The Paramount in Huntington, NY, and December 21st at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey. This should be a pretty fun venture, and we hope you guys will join us for the fun.

Today at 12pm Eastern, and then Pacific time a ticket pre-sale will go live on Ducatking. General tickets will go on sale this Thursday.

We hope you are all well, and we will see you soon.

 – Jesse, Vin, Garrett, and Brian.
