The Get Up Kids announce new album, drop new song

It’s been seven years since the Get Up Kids last released new music, but now it looks like things are about to change. On Thursday (April 5), the Missouri-founded band announced plans to release a four-song EP in early June. The new EP will be titled Kicker and is set to be released on June 8.

“You always look back in rose-colored glasses,” begins a statement from guitarist/vocalist Jim Suptic said about the concept behind the new EP.

“I always remember when this band was really struggling and we were selling our CD collections to pay our rent and that sucked at the time, but looking back that was an amazing time, that was so much fun.”

Kicker will mark the Get Up Kids’ debut album through their new home of Polyvinyl Records. Late last month, the quintet revealed that they had signed to the record label.

In addition to announcing the release of brand new music, the group also released the lyric video for one of the new songs; a track titled “Maybe.” Listen to “Maybe” above.

Kicker is the follow-up to the Get Up Kids’ 2011 release, There Are Rules.

In support of the new record’s release, the Get Up Kids will embark on a United States-centric summer tour. The trek will kick off on June 14 at Trees in Dallas and wrap up on July 21 at the Delmar Hall in St. Louis. Casket Lottery, Racquet Club, and Ageist will join the Get Up Kids for certain dates of the upcoming tour. From June 14 to June 30, Casket Lottery will open for the five-piece while Racquet Club and Ageist will take over from July 11 to July 21. The full list of upcoming tour dates can be seen below.

Simple Plan Stream New EP

simple_plan_173643_4923

It’s been quite sometime since we have heard any news from one of our favorite bands from Canada, Simple Plan.

After much talk that they would be putting out a new EP in the future, the day has finally arrived. Today, the band have given fans the chance to listen to their brand new EP, Get Your Heart On – The Second Coming!, which is the continuation of their fourth album, 2011’s Get Your Heart On.

The band released the following statement for fans about the early release:

“We’re really excited to release our first EP and share some new music with our fans all over the world. “Get Your Heart On – The Second Coming!” is a collection of songs we wrote during the songwriting sessions for our last album. We came up with over 75 songs for “Get Your Heart On!” and it was a very tough process to narrow them down to the 11 that made the final cut for the album.

As we are starting to work on our upcoming 5th album and closing the “GYHO!” chapter after 2 years of amazing shows all over the world, we thought it would be very cool to give our fans some new songs to get excited about. We love these songs and had a great time recording them over the last few months. We can’t wait to hear what our fans will think of the new music and are even more stoked to be writing a brand new album for them!”

– Pierre, Chuck, Sebastien, Jeff and David

The seven-track album will officially be released on December 3 through the band’s longtime record label, Atlantic Records, digitally. If physical copies are your bread and butter, copies of that are available for pre-sale over at their website.
