Brand New Frontman Hints at Band’s End

Could the Brand New reunion be over just as fast as it began? If we’re going to take what frontman Jesse Lacey said during a recent show seriously, which we might have to because of the emotion behind the speech, then yes, maybe the end for the band is near.

During their final tour of 2015 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Sunday (Oct. 11), Lacey took to the microphone to give a heartfelt speech to the audience before launching into “Play Crack the Sky.” In the speech, which sources recorded video of, he talks about how it might be the end of the group. But, before jumping to conclusions, it might be good to point out that he says that the group “can’t do this forever,” but nothing in his speech confirms that the band are disbanding after the next record.

“This [is] the last show we’ll play for a while. Things will be different the next time we play. I’ll have a brand new daughter! The next time we play, we’ll have a brand new album for you. This won’t last much longer, we can’t do this forever.”

Before speaking about their inevitable end, Lacey shed a few tears when speaking about his band mates Garrett Tierney, Vincent Accardi, and Brian Lane while also revealing his inner demons of not being enough.

“Being in a room like this is really special. Personally, I don’t feel adequate, or worth it, playing on this stage, but I know that Garrett, and Vinnie, and Brian are absolutely worth it.”

Jack White Gets Inducted to Nashville’s Walk of Fame

A couple of weeks after holding a Q&A where he spoke about a lot of things including journalists and their “click bait” headlines about him, Jack White has been inducted into Nashville’s Walk of Fame.

The former White Stripes singer was inducted alongside frequent collaborator and country music legend, Loretta Lynn this past Tuesday (June 2)

Each artist was then given the opportunity to make a speech about the other during the ceremony.

“I don’t have anything prepared,” White began as he took the stage to speak about Lynn.

“But when it comes to talking about Loretta Lynn, I don’t really need to prepare anything. I love her so much, I could talk for hours about her. One time an interviewer asked me, ‘Jack, what’s your favorite book, song and movie?’ And I said, ‘That’s easy. Coal Miner’s Daughter,” he continued.

“I think she embodies feminism, and she broke ground for women more than anybody else did, before anybody else did.”

Lynn also took the stage to speak about White, who was the producer for her most recent album, 2004’s Van Lear Rose.

“He’s been here in Nashville for a little while. He didn’t have to be here too long for you to understand that we needed him, really. Nashville needed Jack White. And I think he’s one of the greatest artists there is.”

Though White is originally from Detroit, the singer packed up his bags a decade ago and moved to the Music City where he formed his successful record label, Third Man Records. Recently, White announced he would be opening a Detroit location this November.

White and Lynn are in good company on the MusicCity Walk of Fame. Previous inductees include Jimi Hendrix, Emmylou Harris, Roy Obrison, Reba McEntre, Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, and Little Richard.

White and Lynn’s induction was the 14th since it was founded in 2006. This induction ceremony also marked the debut of the newly renovated monument site.

Foo Fighters Send in the “Congregation”

It’s Friday which means that he Foo fighters have released another new song from their new album, Sonic Highways.

Yesterday, a snippet of the new song titled “Congregation” was released onto the internet, but like the past two Fridays, the band have released the song on the same day their HBO special is slated to air its third episode.

Tonight’s episode of Sonic Highways takes the guys to Nashville where frontman Dave Grohl gets to sit and chat with several artists including Dolly Parton, Tony Joe White, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, and producer Tony Bown.

This episode, the band got the chance to record the new track at Southern Ground studio with help from Zac Brown from the Zac Brown Band.

Jack White Does Loretta Lynn

Record Store Day might have been this past Saturday, but that doesn’t mean that the fun of finding cool new music is over.

Yesterday, Record Store Day Ambassador, Jack White’s contribution had made its way to the internet. The White Stripes frontman released a cover of Loretta Lynn’s 1970 country hit song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” It might not be that much of a stretch that White chose to cover Lynn since he talks about how much he admires her and even helped produce her 2004 album, Van Lear Rose. 

On his Third Man blog, the frontman notes that he covered the song “so you can hear the warm analog fidelity that radiates out of this booth,” which will “soon be a permanent fixture in [Third Man’s] Novelties Lounge.”

Who’s ready to go visit Third Man Records in Nashville? I’m down.
