The Cure, Guns N’ Roses, and Cardi B are just some of the acts making their way to Austin in the fall for the 18th annual Austin City Limits. On Tuesday (April 30), festival organizers unveiled the massive and diverse lineup for the 2019 edition of the event.

Joining the already stacked lineup are Mumford and Sons, Tame Impala, Childish Gambino, Robyn, Thom Yorke performing Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, Kacey Musgraves, Jenny Lewis, Lizzo, Lil Uzi Vert, Billie Eilish, 21 Savage, Rosalía, the Raconteurs, LANY, and many more.

As noted by the official poster for the event, Cardi B will only perform during the first weekend of the gig while Robyn will take over her slot during the second weekend. It’s also noted that the Kooks will only play during the first weekend of the show while Third Eye Blind will take over during weekend two.

This year marks the debut for many headliners including Guns N’ Roses (it’s also their first show in Austin in 25 years), Cardi B, Eilish, and Robyn. This also marks Childish Gambino’s makeup appearance at the weekend-long festival after having to cancel last year due to a foot injury he sustained during the Dallas stop of his “This is America” tour.

The 18th annual Austin City Limits will take over Zilker Park during the weekends of Oct. 4-6 and Oct. 11-13.

Tickets for the three-day event are currently available for purchase on their website. There are four different ticket options to pick from for weekend passes as well as single-day passes. ACL is offering fans several packages including general admission, general admission plus, VIP, and platinum. For more information about the lineup, tickets, or general inquiries, head on over to Austin City Limits’ website.

Marcus Mumford Reveals Career ‘Contingency Plans’

Remember those days when you were little and your teachers would ask you what you wanted to be when you grew-up? Things like racecar driver, astronaut, and even a rock star might have been an answer at some point in time. Then, they would tell you that it was not a “very likely” dream and to pick something a little more “realistic.” Well, it look like even rock stars who sell-out arenas sometimes think like that.

During a recent interview with the United Kingdom’s The Big Issue, Mumford and Sons frontman, Marcus Mumford, somehow got onto the subject of what he would do if he was no longer in a big band. According to Mumford, he would be either a teacher or a farmer if his days of hitting the stage were to come to an end.

“I’m still not convinced this is my job,” begins Mumford.

“I’ve still got contingency plans at the back of my head, before every tour, about becoming a teacher or a farmer. I definitely have some sort of arrested development in terms of my psychology in terms of my career, where I still sort of feel like this is going to stop tomorrow.”

We guess we kind of understand why he thinks like that, after all, Mumford and Sons did go on a year-and-a-half-long hiatus due to exhaustion back in 2013 after taking the world by storm with their debut album Babel. But then again, from the pictures and videos we’ve seen of the band’s recent shows, we don’t see those contingency plans going into effect any time soon.

Mumford and Sons Cover Blink-182 with Mark Hoppus

image

Remember how last week Mumford and Sons welcomed Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus on stage for a cover of ’80s staple “Sweet Dreams” by the Eurythmics? Well, it appears that they guys from Mumford liked having Hoppus around so much that they decided to cover another song together with the bassist.

During the folk band’s show at the Troubadour in West Hollywood this past weekend, Hoppus was once again brought out on stage alongside Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello and T-Bone Burnett for a cover of Hoppus’s (and the rest of Blink-182) very own “What’s My Age Again?”

Might be a kind of random grouping, but hey, sometimes the things you don’t think work together do in the end. Check out the fan shot video from the show below, so don’t expect the audio from the video to be recording studio worthy.

Mark Hoppus Joins Mumford and Sons on Stage

So what happens when you combine a folk band, one-third of a pop-punk band, and an 80s staple? One collaboration that, in a way, works.

During their show last night (Aug. 18) at the Forum in Inglewood, CA, Mumford and Sons brought Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus on stage to join them for a cover of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams.” But Hoppus wasn’t the only one putting his hat in the ring for this version of the song; Mumford’s tour mates Jack Garratt and the Vaccines joined in on the performance as well.

Watch some videos from the show below.

As it turns out, it isn’t the first time the United Kingdom band covered the 1983 song. They debuted their version of the song back in late July while performing at BBC’s Maida Vale Session, but recently, they added to their touring setlist.

Mumford and Sons is just about to wrap up their summer festival tour which they embarked on in support of their recently released album, Wilder Mind. Their next stop will be at the Gentlemen of the Road festival in Salida, CO this upcoming weekend (Aug. 31-22).

Death Cab for Cutie Frontman Voices Opinion About TIDAL

image

While the vast majority of the world were probably sitting back in awe and giving props to Jay-Z  and his friends when he announced the launch of his new music streaming service, TIDAL, there were some artists who were not too impressed by it.

In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Mumford & Sons frontman, Marcus Mumford said that they wouldn’t have joined the streaming site due to its “bias towards only popular artists.” For those who didn’t see the launch last month, Jay-Z announced the service on stage, alongside the likes of Kanye West, Madonna, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Arcade Fire, Jack White, Daft Punk and more.

While British firecracker, Lily Allen mirrored the sentiments by sending out many tweets saying: “I love Jay Z so much, but TIDAL is [so] expensive compared to other perfectly good streaming services… He’s taken the biggest artists & made them exclusive to TIDAL… people are going to swarm back to pirate sites in droves sending traffic to torrent sites.”

The most recent person to join the anti-TIDAL campaign is Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard.

Gibbard who like Mumford was being interviewed by The Daily Beast (unrelated interviews),told the publication just want he thought about the new service.

“If I had been Jay-Z, I would have brought out ten artists that were underground or independent and said, ‘These are the people who are struggling to make a living in today’s music industry. Whereas this competitor streaming site pays this person 15 cents for X amount of streams, that same amount of streams on my site, on TIDAL, will pay that artist this much.’ I think they totally blew it by bringing out a bunch of millionaires and billionaires and propping them up onstage and then having them all complain about not being paid,” said Gibbard.

“There was a wonderful opportunity squandered to highlight what this service would mean for artists who are struggling and to make a plea to people’s hearts and pocketbooks to pay a little more for this service that was going to pay these artists a more reasonable rate. And they didn’t do it. That’s why this thing is going to fail miserably.”

The Verge also point out in an article, that Jay-Z and TIDAL might have a secret weapon under their puffy jackets; Live Nation.

In other news, TIDAL premium is priced at $9.99 (USD) per month while TIDAL HiFi is priced at $19.99 (USD) per month and Jay-Z has officially taken down his debut album Reasonable Doubt, with the exception of one song, from Spotify.

Mumford and Sons’ New Album Gets Release Date

It’s official, Mumford and Sons will be releasing their new studio album this May.

Last week, the indie band posted a cryptic message on Twitter to fans which featured a link to a video and a simple message telling them to look forward to some big news on Monday (today).

The British band’s third record will be titled Wilder Mind and will be released on May 5th through Island Records and Universal Music.

But the release date isn’t the only thing that was revealed about the new album. Leave it iTunes to once again ruin the surprise by prematurely posting the album art, tracklist, and other important information about the upcoming record. iTunes attempted to remedy the situation by taking down everything connected to the new album, but by then, it was too late.

The band are scheduled to make a “formal” announcement about the album later today, but why when iTunes already released everything unless they will be releasing the first single off of the album to coincide with the announcement.

Check out the album art and tracklist below.

Wilder Mind is the follow-up to their highly successful album, 2012’s Babel. The new album also marks the band’s official return to music after going on hiatus in 2013 following a long and strenuous touring schedule behind Babel.

Mumford and Sons Tease New Music Coming Soon

Mumford and Sons have been quiet for what seems like years (it’s only been about a year and a half), but now, it looks like the indie band will officially be making their return to the music world after their hiatus.

Last month, it was confirmed that they would be one of the major headliners at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival in the United Kingdom while they were also confirmed to headline Bonnaroo this year, but festival gigs aren’t the only thing the band have up their sleeves.

Talks of a new album, their third was confirmed last Summer by Ben Lovett, but with the teaser the band dropped this morning, a new song might be making its debut pretty soon, like this upcoming Monday (March 2).

The band took to Twitter this morning to post a message to fans claiming that some news was coming on Monday. Attached to the message, was a link which to a short video.

The video begins with the band’s name on the screen while some instrumentals play in the background. It then shifts to the band in a room (studio?) and before the song can actually begin, the video snaps to black.

What a way to troll your fans, guys.

Reading and Leeds Unveil Full 2015 Line-Up

image

If you though Bonnaroo had a cool way if veiling the artists for this year’s line-up, then Reading and Leeds might have a slightly cooler way of unveiling the third and final headliner for this year’s event.

The British festival took to Facebook to post anonymous letter which read: “Yeah, so I just woke up but like, I dunno, I just can’t stop thinking about Reading and Leeds and how much I’m looking forward to playing Reading and Leeds 2015.”

Everyone following were left to guess who the third headlining spot, alongside Metallica and Mumford and Sons, would be given to until Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show went live. During the show, it was revealed that the third headliner spot was given to The Libertines.

“Reading has always been a special festival to me, it’s where I misspent a lot of my youth. I saw Rage against the Machine there when I was a nipper, which inspired a lot in me. Zack de la Rocha set me on a path, he bridged the gap between my bedroom and Velvet Underground and Jimi Hendrix and the Doors and showed me what it really was to be up on that stage in front of all those people” frontman Carl Barat told NME about their big headlining gig.

“It’s pretty dizzying to be alongside Metallica, I used to love them when I was a kid. They were up there with Michael Jackson and James Dean.”

But while Barat and the rest of the Libertines (including a sober Pete Doherty, we hope) are headlining, a slew of over 50 more acts were also revealed including Kendrick Lamar, American Football, Panic! at the Disco, New Found Glory, Simple Plan, Bring Me The Horizon, Pierce the Veil, Frnkiero and the cellabration, and many more (though there are two special guests still unannounced).

Check out the complete line-up for Reading and Leeds 2015 slated to take place during the weekend of August 28-30. All information about the festival including tickets can be seen on their websites here and here.
