Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande lead the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards nominations

The Video Music Awards goes to….

On Thursday (July 30), MTV announced the long list of nominees for this year’s Video Music Awards. Leading the pack with the most nominations are (to no one’s surprise) Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. The two pop stars earned nine nominations each for their club-thumping track “Rain on Me.”

Coming in, right behind the two singers are Billie Eilish and The Weeknd, who earned six nominations apiece.

This year finds the awards ceremony introducing not one, but two new categories to the tried-and-true models. This year voters will see the categories for “Best Music Video from Home” and “Best Quarantine Performance” added to the list.

From now until Aug. 23, fans can vote on every single category, including the new additions on the VMA’s official website. The only group that will still accept votes until the night of the awards show is the “Best New Artist Category,” which includes Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, Lewis Capaldi, Roddy Ricch, Tate McRae, and Yungblud as nominees.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Brooklyn’s Barclays Centers on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 8  p.m. ET.

Missy Elliott returns with ‘Iconology,’ drops first single

Missy Elliott is throwing it back with a surprise new EP. On Friday (Aug. 23), the iconic rapper dropped five new songs without a peep. Titled Iconology, the record features four new songs (“Throw it Back,” “Cool Off,” “Drip Demeanor,” and “Why I Still Love You”) and an acapella version of one of the new tunes.

Hours before unleashing the EP to the world, Missy made the announcement via social media.

“At midnight tonight I’m dropping a collection of new songs!” she wrote on Twitter.

“Let’s #ThrowItBack” to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance.”

All the tracks on Iconology were produced by Missy as well as Timbaland and Wili Hendrix.

To coincide with the record’s release Missy also premiered the music video for the album’s first single “Throw it Back.” Watch the four-minute clip above.

Iconology is currently available on all digital streaming platforms.

Iconology features Missy’s first new set of tunes since 2005’s The Cookbook. While things have been quiet at Camp Missy Elliott over the last couple of years, it doesn’t mean she’s been entirely out of the spotlight. She’s recently joined forces with Ariana Grande on her Sweetener track “Borderline,” and Lizzo for her smash single “Tempo.”

IMTV recently announced that Missy will be presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the upcoming 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The award will be presented during the live broadcast of the show on Monday, Aug. 26.

Because receiving a prestigious award isn’t enough, Missy also made history earlier this year as the first female hip-hop artist, and the third-ever rapper, to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

In addition to everything Missy has accomplished so far in 2019, she recently received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music. This makes her the first female rapper to receive an honorary doctorate from the prestigious institution.

As she signed in her Iconology announcement tweet, you can now call her Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott.

MTV Video Music Awards Reveal Full List of Performers

The MTV Video Music Awards are right around the corner and the annual music award show has finally unveiled the full list of performers that are slated to take the stage to perform.

For the last few weeks, the former music television network had been revealing performers once at a time to prolong the suspense for those who tune in annually.

Today, Sam Smith was revealed as the last performer on the list. Throughout the past weeks, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea, Maroon 5, Usher, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer and Beyoncé (who will also be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award) had been revealed to be taking the stage at some point during the normally two and a half hour music-centric award program.

In the award nomination portion of the show, Beyoncé leads this year’s pack with a grand total of eight while fellow performer, Iggy Azalea trails behind with seven nominations.

This year, MTV will be introducing a new category to the award show, the MTV Clubland Award which will capitalize on the recent popularity of electronic dance music (EDM).

Justin Timberlake and Kanye West Make Up

Remember back in February when Kanye West took a shot at Justin Timberlake during a show in  London’s Hammersmith Apollo?

Yeah, well we almost forgot about it too until we remember what West had said to his crowd of followers. To this day, the assumption might be that ‘Yeezus’ was jealous that his best friend, Jay-Z was trading him in for Timberlake which led to him saying, “”I got love for Hov, but I ain’t fucking with that ‘Suit & Tie’.”

Cue the one person feud that was forgotten until today when Timberlake brought it back into the public’s knowledge.

In an interview with MTV reporter, Sway on In the Morning, Timberlake commented on what the rapper had said, and that it really didn’t bother him much. “At the end of the day it’s just music,” he said. “I love the record, I love ‘Suit & Tie’. It reminds me of the music I grew up listening to. I respect his opinion because I think he’s a genius, but I don’t share that opinion.”

While the “feud” did got into a black hole of oblivion to the world, Timberlake said that the two of them  settled their difference at the MTV Video Music Awards last week where West performed “Blood on the Leaves” and Timberlake performed a medley of his songs as well as accepted a couple of awards including the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Awards.

“I told [Kanye], ‘I fuck with you, in a way that you probably don’t even understand. I get what you do.’ We’ve never worked together, so I don’t think that he fully understands what it is that I can do. I love ‘Yeezus’, I love that album. I think he’s ahead of a lot, especially in his genre. I think people are going to appreciate it a lot more in the future.”

As if simply making up wasn’t enough, Timberlake did make a comment that there might be some collaborating in the future. Well, the best way I know how to do that is for us to just sit down and play music.”

So can anyone see a collaboration going on between these two? I don’t know.

Watch the *NSYNC Reunion

What was the most anticipated portion of the MTV Video Music Awards was also the shortest of the night; the reunion of NSYNC!

After much speculation of are they or aren’t they, the former boy band including JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and the man of the evening Justin Timberlake took the stage for probably a total of three seconds to perform a quick medley of “Girlfriend” and “Bye, Bye, Bye” with choreography from the video and all.

Last week, when word had gotten out that there might be reunion, that’s all that it was at the time; rumors. Many were hoping that Timberlake would finally agree to give the kids from the ’90s something to remember especially when it was the boy band that helped launch him to super stardom, and he did, briefly.

Keep your eyes open because if you blink, you might miss it.

New Eminem Album Due Out in November

Why the world was still reeling (and probably will never get over) the Miley Cyrus/Robin Thicke combo that happened last night, Eminem did something that we probably should have expected, but still were surprised; he released a commercial for his much talked about new album.

The trailer might have been quick and to the point, letting fans of the rapper know that his Marshall Mathers LP follow-up, coincidental named, MMLP2 will be released on November 5.

Rick Rubin and Eminem’s always collaborator, Dr. Dre were announced as producers on the new album which comes as no surprise since a few months back, Dr. Dre revealed not only that the new LP would be released by year’s end, but that he was also working on it.

The ad made its presence in one of the many Beats by Dr. Dre commercials and most were wondering what the new song was; many were thinking it was a new Beastie Boys song, but we wrong at the end. An announcement then followed that the snippet of the Beastie Boys-esque song would actually be the rapper’s second single off the album, “Berzerk” which will drop on Tuesday, August 27.

“Berzerk” will be the second single off MMLP2 following last week’s release of “Survival” in the Call of Duty: Ghost trailer.

*NSYNC Reunion at VMAs?

Could it be true? Could the ’90s officially be making a comeback in 2013?

The way that things are looking, 90s boy band are making a major comeback, perfect for us nostalgic people. First we had New Kids on the Block getting back together to go on tour.  Then Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees joined, going on tour with the first two. Recently, we had the Backstreet Boys announced that they would be on tour and releasing a new album in celebration of their 20th anniversary,

Now the rumor is spinning again, claiming that *NSYNC might be reuniting as soon as this weekend.

In the last couple of hours, the consensus is that *NSYNC might be making a reunion happen at MTV’s Video Music Awards this weekend. The award ceremony, or party more like it, celebrates musicians who are the hottest of the bunch during the voting period. Awards are given off based votes, so yes, MTV does occasionally play music.

In the past, there had been the same kind of rumors running around, but they all ended up being squashed because, you know, Justin Timberlake is one of the most busy guys in Hollywood. The New York Post’s Page Six reported that they five guys will be gathering together for a one-off performance, though no confirmations nor denials have been made.

Timberlake will be appearing at the event to receive the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award as well as to perform. Sources report that former bandmates, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Krikpatrick will be joining him on stage.

This year’s line up already features Lady Gaga opening the show, Katy Perry probably performing her new single, “Roar,” Robin Thicke giving us some of his sexy vocals on “Blurred Lines” and many other.

So if *NSYNC are in fact reuniting for a one-off performance, what song do you want them to do? We’re partial to “It’s Gonna Be Me.”
