Little Monsters, get ready to party because Mama Monster has announced that she will be performing at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. As of right now, the song she will be performing is being kept underwraps (much like the entire album), but chances are that it’s the first single off of ARTPOP which will be released on August 19.
This information might not come as a surprise to some of her biggest fans since Gaga does have some kind of a history with the network’s award show. In 2009, she performed a blood-soaked version of her song, “Paparazzi” while in 2011, she got into full male alter-ego mode by portraying Jo Calderone not only during her performance of “You & I,” but managed to stay in character throughout the entire show.
And then there was the meat dress incident.
In honor of her comeback (should we really call it that?), MTV Hits, the network’s 24-hour music channel (I know we’re surprised too), will be airing an hour block between 3-4 p.m. ET showing her music videos as well as performances from the past.
For those looking forward to the Video Music Awards, the show will be broadcast live from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in New York City on August 25 stating at 9 p.m. on MTV.
By now, we should not be shocked by the things that come from Kanye West’s mouth; from the way that he acts which screams, “massive ass” to the way he treats paparazzi when they ask him a simple “how are you” question, we all know he’s the king of the asshats.
After the official announcement was made about the nominees for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift hit the Twittersphere to announce her nominations while making reference to her run-in with Kanye on that infamous night in 2009.
In the tweet, the pop star says: “Two VMA nominations!! If you vote and get us one, I promise to keep a firmer grip on the mic this time ;).” Turns out, that was all the ammunition someone needed to release an alleged audio file of the rapper ranting about why he interrupted Swift on that stage.
The person who possessed the audio file shared it with Gawker and claim that it was recorded while the rapper was at dinner with friends at the Corner Bistro in New York, right after the 2009 VMAs. In the recording, you can hear someone who sounds like Kanye explain why he found it necessary to ruin Taylor’s moment.
“Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse [to “Run This Town”] in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé. As long as I’m alive! And if I’m alive, kill me then! Kill me then! As long as I’m alive, you gon’ have to deal with it. ‘Cause there ain’t gonna be no more motherf–king Elvises with no James Browns,” he begins.
The voice then continues with complain about how his mother “got arrested for the f**kin’ sit-ins,” and died, tragically, after undergoing plastic in 2008 “for this fame shit.”
But just when think that might have been the end of the alleged rant, the voice goes on to criticize P!nk’s performance, which was before his ta the award show. “How the f–k Pink perform two songs and I didn’t even get asked to perform “Heartless.” “Heartless” is the biggest song of the year!”
Following the incident, and a whole lot of backlash for it, Kanye repeatedly apologized to Taylor about it, but like the arrogant snotball that he is, he took it back. While being interviewed by the New York Times’ Jon Caramanica, he revealed that the apology all came as a result from peer pressure, not from the bottom of his heart.
A source close to the rapper (who by the way was not even present at this supposed dinner), claims that the recording sounds staged, but the truth of the matter is, they couldn’t confirm that it was real either. As of right, the record label has made no comment on this alleged audio file, so let’s just wait and see what happens.
