Mountain Dew Drops Lil’ Wayne as Spokesperson

Lil' Wayne

Looks like Lil’ Wayne should have thought about what he raps in his verses next time before he pulls another Rick Ross.

The rapper has been involved in a month-long controversy over a verse in Future’s “Karate Chop (remix)” which features a line about the lynching of Emmett Till. When the controversy made headlines, Weezy released a non-apology which the family of Till did not take lightly.

Now in lieu of his faux pax, Mountain Dew has dropped him as a spokesperson. The company behind the neon green drink, PepsiCo, said in a statement that the  “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”

Mountain Dew entered into a relationship with Lil Wayne in March of 2012, when the rapper was beginning to shift his image towards a skateboarding culture. a

This isn’t the only issue Mountain Dew has had this week; the soda company has also pulled an ad which featured Tyler, The Creator which was seen as racist.

Note to rappers, next time try to stay away from the controversial stuff and sick to what you know.
