Modest Mouse share their Record Store Day contribution ‘Poison the Well’

Modest Mouse has returned with their new song. On Friday (March 29), the Washington-founded act released their first new song in four years. Titled “Poison the Well,” the latest track comes a week after the band confirmed plans to debut the new tune at the end of the month.

The group’s new song announcement came shortly after their loyal followers began receiving cryptic puzzle pieces in the mail. Fans were quick to put the pieces together which resulted in the band’s official announcement. The message read: ‘Poison the Well’ will arrive 3.29.”

Listen to “Poison the Well” above.

“Poison the Well” is the band’s first new song since 2015’s Strangers to Ourselves.

In addition to “Poison the Well,” the act also revealed that they will be taking part in this year’s Record Store Day. Their contribution to the annual music lover’s holiday will include a triangular mint-green 7-inch record which will feature “Poison the Well” on the A-side of the record and a previously unreleased track on the B-side.

Record Store Day will take place on April 13.

Modest Mouse made headlines earlier this month when they were announced as the special guest on the Black Keys’ “Let’s Rock” fall tour.

The upcoming excursion begins on Sept. 21 at the Life is Beautiful music festival in Las Vegas and concludes two months later on Nov. 24 at the Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

Shannon and the Clams, Repeat Repeat, and Jessy Wilson will open on select dates.

The full “Let’s Rock” tour itinerary can be found here.

Modest Mouse to release new song at the end of the month

It looks like Modest Mouse is ready to give fans some new tunes. On Thursday (March 21), the Washington-founded band announced plans to release a brand new song at the end of the month. Titled “Poison the Well,” the new single is due out digitally on March 29.

The confirmation comes a week or so after fans began to receive cryptic puzzle pieces in the mail. Thanks to social media, those who did not receive puzzles in the mail were able to see what the band had up their sleeve.

As per images uploaded onto social media, the puzzles came in a drawstring bag with directions that read “Assemble my insides to reveal the advertisement.” Another message accompanied the bundle which read, “‘Poison the Well’ will arrive 3.29.”

This isn’t the first time the band mailed out cryptic messages to announce major news. In 2014, they pulled a similar stunt when they announced the release of their sixth studio album, Strangers to Ourselves. The group mailed test pressings of the album’s lead single, “Lampshades on Fire,” as well as a note announcing the name of the single, the name of the album, and the record’s release date.

“Poison the Well” is the band’s first new song in four years. Modest Mouse’s last studio effort was 2015’s Strangers to Ourselves.

The Black Keys announce fall tour dates with Modest Mouse

The Black Keys are about to take their surprise new song on the road later this year. On Thursday (March 13), the Nashville-based band announced plans to embark on a massive North American tour in the fall.

Dubbed the “Let’s Rock” tour, the trek will find the group performing at venues across the continent throughout September, October, and November. The 31-stop jaunt includes shows in Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Nashville, Toronto, Boston, Orlando, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Portland, and more.

The upcoming excursion begins on Sept. 21 at the Life is Beautiful music festival in Las Vegas and concludes two months later on Nov. 24 at the Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

Modest Mouse will open for the Black Key throughout the full excursion while support will come from Shannon and the Clams, Repeat Repeat, and Jessy Wilson on select dates.

Tickets for the “Let’s Rock” tour go on sale next Friday, March 22, with pre-sale available on March 1 for Citi Cardmembers and Ticketmaster Verified Fans.

Last week, the Black Keys surprised fans with their first new single in five years, “Lo/Hi.” The band has not confirmed whether “Lo/Hi” is a standalone single or the first track off the long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s Turn Blue.

Since the album’s release, the Black Keys, as a group have been quiet. Individually though, vocalist Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have been busy.

Auerbach released several albums during that period including his solo record, Waiting on a Song. Carney, on the other hand, has kept busy by producing music for several artists and even wrote the theme song for Adult Swim’s BoJack Horseman.

Brand New and Modest Mouse to Head Out on Co-Headlining Tour

image

Whether Jesse Lacey is forgetting the lyrics to his own songs or crying about the inevitable ending of his band, going to a Brand New show is nothing short of entertaining. On Tuesday (Jan. 26), the group unveiled that they will be hitting the road once again this summer. The Long Island band revealed that they will be hitting the touring circuit for a co-headlining excursion with Modest Mouse. The tour will kick-off on June 28 at Saltair in Magna, UT and wrap up a month or so later on July 31 at the Moda Center in Portland, OR.

Pre-sales tickets for the tour are currently available here. For those who are not able to purchase pre-sale tickets at the moment, don’t fret; general admission sales will begin this Friday, Jan. 29. For now, check out the complete list of tour dates, as well as the official poster for the tour, below.

The tour announcement just adds on to the rumors of Brand New releasing a new record soon. Last year, the rumors hit an all time high when Lacey, during an interview confirmed there was indeed new music, but that it wasn’t ready to be released yet. Then, in December, the band released a collection titled Brand New – Leaked Demos 2006. Sadly, it wasn’t a collection of new songs, just a collection of leaked demos from 2006 (like the title claims). No word yet if 2016 will be the year that the highly anticipated record will hit shelves. We all know fans are excited for a new record that can erase the memory of the lukewarm-received Daisy.

As for Modest Mouse, the Washington state band released their highly anticipated new album Strangers to Ourselves back in 2015 and tour extensively behind the record’s release.

Budweiser Made in America Festival Unveil 2015 Philadelphia Line-Up

BEYONCE AND THE WEEKND TO HEADLINE 2015 BUDWEISER MADE IN AMERICA FESTIVAL

While Jay-Z’s TiDAL is not exactly going as planned, one thing the rapper can rely on is the line-up for his Budweiser Made in America Festival is going to be a collection of artists to give everyone with a specific music taste a little something.

Today, the line-up for the 2015 Philadelphia edition of the weekend-long festival was unveiled and just like it was stated before, there are several artists to satisfy everyone’s music palette.

Headlining the festival will be Beyoncé, though she hasn’t put out any new music in a while, and The Weeknd, fresh off the success of his Fifty Shades of Grey Soundtrack songs.

Also on the line-up are Death Cab For Cutie, Modest Mouse, Nick Jonas, Metric, De La Soul, Future, and many more.

The complete list of artists heading to Philly in September can be seen below.

Proceeds from the two-day festival will benefit the United Ways in Greater Philadelphia, Southern New Jersey, and Lancaster County, PA.

Tickets for the festival will on sale to the general public next Monday, June 29, at 12:00 p.m. EDT. For those who are American Express Card Members, tickets will go on sale beginning tomorrow, June 25, at 10:00 a.m. EDT and will conclude on Sunday, June 28, at 10:00 p.m. EDT.

Budweiser Made in American Festival will take place during the weekend of Sept. 5-6 at Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, PA.

2015 Austin City Limits Music Festival Line-Up Leaks

image

UPDATE:

Well, the official line-up for this year’s Austin City Limits Festival has been revealed and lets just confirm that the vast majority of the line-up that was leaked on Sunday evening were in fact scheduled to appear at the festival with the exception of the Foo fighters actually performing on both weekends.

Check out the newly confirmed first wave of acts. According to reports, the next waves will come our way in September.

Weekend One: Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Drake, The Weeknd, Disclosure, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, Alt-J, The Decemberists, Chance the Rapper, ASAP Rocky, Billy Idol, Run the Jewels, TV on the Radio, Brandon Flowers, Brand New, Father John Misty, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Gary Clark Jr., Royal Blood, Jose Gonzalez, and Daughter, along with deadmau5, Bassnectar, Hozier, and Of Monsters and Men.

Weekend Two: Foo Fighters, Drake, Florence and the Machine, The Weeknd, Disclosure, Tame Impala, Modest Mouse, Alt-J, The Decemberists, Chance the Rapper, ASAP Rocky, Billy Idol, Run the Jewels, TV on the Radio, Brandon Flowers, Brand New, Father John Misty, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Gary Clark Jr., Royal Blood, Jose Gonzalez, and Daughter, along with deadmau5, Bassnectar, Hozier, and Of Monsters and Men.

If Austin City Limits Music Festival was trying to keep their 2015 line-up a secret, then maybe they need to have a little conversation with their website person about letting the secret out of the bag two days before the official announcement was set to happen.

Last night (May 3), the line-up for both weekends of the music festival was leaked online, with the website’s link circulating the interweb. Quickly after the “mistake,” the post was taken down and now an “Oops, we’re not finding the page you’re looking for” message is appearing, but not before people took to the internet to spread the word and of course screen cap the information.

Sucks for them and their surprise, great for the people who were on the fence about going.

Weekend one will feature performances from: the Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Drake, The Weeknd, Disclosure, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, Alt-J, The Decemberists, Chance the Rapper, ASAP Rocky, Billy Idol, Run the Jewels, TV on the Radio, Brandon Flowers, Brand New, Father John Misty, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Gary Clark Jr., Royal Blood, Jose Gonzalez, and Daughter, along with deadmau5, Bassnectar, Hozier, and Of Monsters and Men.

Weekend two will have an almost exact line up except with a few changes. Instead of The Strokes, Modest Mouse will take their place and Florence and the Machine were added to the already packed line-up.

Check out the full (leaked) line-up below.

ACL 2015 weekend one will take place during Oct. 2-4 while weekend two will take place during the weekend of Oct. 9-11 at Zilker Park in Austin.

Stream Modest Mouse’s ‘Strangers to Ourselves’

After eight years of waiting and an extra two weeks due to some unforeseen circumstances, Modest Mouse’s highly anticipated new album, Strangers to Ourselves is out and ready for fans to listen to, in full.

Check out the complete stream of the album below, directly from Spotify.

Before the release of the 15-track record, the band had release several songs including lead single “Lampshades on Fire,” “Coyotes,” “The Best Room,” “The Ground Walks, With Time in a Box,” and closing track, “Of Course We Know.”

During a recent interview with hmv, frontman Isaac Brock revealed that the band already had another album in the works; a companion record to Strangers to Ourselves.

“I’m pretty far along with the next one as it is. I went in to making this one with two records in mind,” Brock explained. “It’ll be released as quickly as it’s legally allowed to be. It’s a partner to [Strangers to Ourselves].”

But that interview isn’t even the first time Brock has made reference to another record from the Washington state band.

When talking to Relix about the impending record, he said that the “next record will come out sooner” and that “we have a bunch of songs and we’ll probably rework them. They are good—they’re just not finished. We might put out something really strange next.”

Reassurance for those who had to wait so long for the follow-up to 2007’s We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
