According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will take place during Depression-era London while the premise of the film revolves around Mary’s return after a tragedy strikes the Banks family, leaving the family, including Micheal’s three children, numb and joyless.

While this direct sequel to the original 1964 film does not star everyone’s favorite icon Julie Andrews, the treasured nanny will now be portrayed by Emily Blunt. Joining Blunt in the forthcoming film will be Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda who plays the role of Jack, a lamplighter who has been compared to Bert.

Well, whatever you may have thought back in 2016 when the Mary Poppins sequel was first announced, now is your chance to get a glimpse at the upcoming film. On Sunday (March 4), the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel was released during the live telecast of the 2018 Academy Awards. While the minute-and-a-half clip does not give away the plot of the film, the viewer is reacquainted with (adult) Jane and Micheal Banks as well as Mary Poppins and is (briefly) introduced to the nanny’s lamplighter friend Jack as well Micheal’s three children.
