Cardi B leads 2019 Billboard Music Awards with 21 nominations

Cardi B is here to remind everyone that’s she’s here to “make money move,” and her 21 Billboard Music Awards nominations are proof of that.

On Thursday (April 4), Billboard unveiled the full list of nominees for this year’s Billboard Music Awards. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper leads the pack with a total of 21 nominations in several main categories like “Top Artist,” “Top Hot 100 Artist,” “Top Streaming Artist,” “Top Billboard 200 Album,” and more.

The “I Like It” rapper’s number of nominations this year puts her just shy of meeting the record-breaking amount of nominations —22— which was set by Drake and the Chainsmokers in 2017.

Following Cardi B with the most nominations are Drake and Post Malone. Both artists received a total of 17 nominations apiece. The rappers will go head-to-head in several categories including “Top Rap Artist,” “Top Billboard 200 Album,” “Top Rap Song,” and “Top Rap Male Artist.”

Behind Drake and Post Malone is Travis Scott with a total of 12 nominations. Scott will compete in many of the same categories as Cardi B, Drake, and Post Malone.

If you’re looking for who’s representing the rock and alternative genres at the Billboard Music Awards, you don’t need to look very far; there aren’t many rock bands on the list. Maroon 5 leads the “rock” genre with a total of seven nominations while Imagine Dragons come in with a total of six (double nomination in the “Top Rock Song” category).

Panic! at the Disco comes in with four nominations while Twenty One Pilots and lovelytheband are tied with two apiece.

This year, the Billboard Music Awards will feature two fan-voted categories; “Top Social Artist” and “Chart Achievement.”

The 2019 Billboard Music Awards will take place at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 1. The show will air live on NBC at 8 p.m. ET. Kelly Clarkson will host the event. Clarkson, with the help of country duo Dan + Shay, announced the full list of nominees on the “Today” show earlier in the day.

The full list of categories and their nominees can be found below.

Report: Maroon 5 to headline Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show

If you had Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” on repeat this summer, then the latest news about who may be headlining next year’s Super Bowl halftime show will have you bumping and grinding all over again. On Wednesday (Sept. 19), rumors began circulating that the California-founded band had been confirmed as the halftime show performers for the 2019 incarnation of football’s major event.

Variety was the first to report that the Adam Levine-fronted act had secured the highly sought-after position. In their report, the publication also noted that the group’s lengthy list of collaborations including hits like “Girls Like You” with Cardi B., “What Lovers Do” with SZA, “Cold” with Future, and “Don’t Wanna Know” with Kendrick Lamar could open the door for similar appearances during the show.

Similarly, Us Weekly also reports that “the offer has been extended and they’ve pretty much accepted.”

This isn’t the first time that the band’s name has been thrown around as potential performers for the in-demand slot. During an interview in 2015 with Howard Stern, Levine told the host that the group had been on the short list for quite some time.

“We very actively want to play the Super Bowl,” the Voice coach admitted to Stern during the broadcast.

A representative for the band has yet to comment on the reported confirmation. While it looks lie it’s pretty much a done deal, Maroon 5 are still on the road touring behind 2017’s Red Pill Blues.

Super Bowl LIII will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in Feb. 3 2019.

Maroon 5 announces massive ‘Red Pill Blues’ tour for 2018

Good news Maroon 5 fans; the group has announced a major tour for 2018. On Thursday (Oct. 26), the California-founded band announced plans to hit the North American touring circuit throughout 2018. The new tour will be named the “Red Pill Blues” after the group’s upcoming new studio album.

The first leg of the North American tour will kick off at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington and wrap up less than a month later on June 17 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. After taking a couple of months off, the second leg of the “Red Pill Blues” tour will kick off on Sept. 7 at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah and wrap up on Oct. 15 with a pair of shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Hitting the road alongside Maroon 5 for the 33-stop tour will be singer Julia Michaels who is also featured on the band’s upcoming release.

Tickets for the tour will go on sale for the general public on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. local time. Those who purchase concert tickets between Oct. 30 and Nov. 10 will receive a free download or physical copy of Red Pill Blues.

Red Pill Blues is Maroon 5’s sixth studio album and is set to be released on Nov. 3 through Interscope Records. So far, the band has released a slew of new songs from the album including “Don’t Wanna Know” featuring Kendrick Lamar, “Cold” featuring  Future, “Whiskey” featuring A$AP Rocky, and current single, “What Lovers Do” featuring SZA.

People Magazine to Launch Own Award Show

image

Another day and another award show has been created.

This time, the award show at hand was created on behalf of People Magazine, everyone’s favorite grocery check out line gossip mag which we all know are guilty of checking out once or twice while waiting in line to pay.

The People Magazine Awards claims that it will honor the “cultural forces of the year” with a star-studded gala on Dec. 18.

We are a little scared to ask what they mean by “cultural forces” since usually it revolves around certain celebutantes that need to disappear off the face of the earth alongside their “husband.”

The two-hour special will air live on NBC from the Beverly Hilton Hotel where celebs such as Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Hart, Kate Hudson and Michael Keaton are set to appear.

But in between celebs praising each other for their “cultural influences” there will be some music acts as well.

5 Seconds of Summer will conclude their year of taking over the airwaves by performing at the event. This comes a week after they won their first American Music Award for “New Artist” and on the heels of announcing they will be releasing a new album by the end of the year, though it’s only going to be a live album.

Also slated to perform at the show will be Maroon 5. The band have also had a decent year, though not as good as 5SOS in our opinion. They released their new studio album V a few months ago and revealed plans to hit the road next year on a tour to support the recently released record.

Maroon 5 to Head Out on World Tour in 2015

wpid-maroon-5-tour.jpeg

How do you remind people that you are one of the biggest bands in music and have been for a decade or so?

Released your new album and a full list of tour dates on the same exact day, of course!

That’s exactly what Maroon 5 did today. Not only did their fifth studio album, V come out today, but they have announced their full 2015 World Tour (or should we call it world domination) dates.

The tour is slated to begin on February 16 in Dallas at the American Airlines Center and travel all around North America until April 3 at the Forum in Inglewood, CA (the same place the MTV Video Music Award were held and the band were told they needed to perform outside).

After that, they will jump across the pond and begin the European installation of the tour on May 26 at London’s Wembley Arena. The European tour will wrap up on June 17 in Lisbon, Portugal at the Meo Arena.

Supporting the band on the trek will be those “Rude” boys, MAGIC! while Rozzi Crane will open the show all over North America and Nick Gardener will take that role during the European dates.

Maroon 5’s “Heart is Open” with Gwen Stefani

image

Gwen Stefani hasn’t even made her official debut as one of the new judges on this season of The Voice, but she might have a little more experience than the other judges since you know she’s had a killer career as a frontwoman and a solo artists (among other things).

Today, a new song featuring her and fellow judge Adam Levine and his band, Maroon 5, has surfaced.

The piano-driven song is titled “My Heart is Open” and will be featured on Maroon 5’s upcoming album V. The song is already shaping up to be an instant hit not only because of Stefani and Levine, but because it was penned by super-songwriter Sia.

Whatever our favorite bleach-blonde songwriter touches often turns to gold.
Check out the audio of the track below.

It’s been months since Stefani was confirmed to be taking over the red spinning chair which only happened after days of the internet claiming it would happen. The No Doubt frontwoman finally confirmed the rumors through Instagram with a photo of her hand holding a microphone and doing the “V” logo. Like the internet had claimed, Stefani would be taking over for Christina Aguilera, who would not be able to judge this season due to her second pregnancy.

This season marks the debut of not only Stefani, but Pharrell Williams who will be filling in the slot that normally would have been taken by Cee Lo Green and his car Purrfect. The larger than life performer, and his feline, had announced he would be leaving the show, for good, for something else. Returning once again to the show as judges this season are the bro-mancers, Levine and country singer Blake Shelton.

The Voice’s new season is slated to return sometime this upcoming Fall season. No specific return date has been given.

iTunes Festival to Return to London for Eighth Year

image

The iTunes Festival will be returning home this September and taking a few American artists with them back to the United Kingdom. The festival announced that they will be returning to London for the 30 days of live performances.

The iTunes Festival will celebrate its 8th year with acts such as Maroon 5, Pharrell, Kylie Minogue, Calvin Harris, 5 Seconds of Summer and many more, though those are just some that have been announced.

The popularity of the event was so big that earlier this year, the event made its American debut. At the end, there should be a grand total of 60 acts taking the stage at the end of September.

Fans who are interested in winning tickets to see any of the performers, have the chance to do so by entering official ballots which can be accessed through the iTunes store. Winners will be chosen via lottery system.

And like every year if you are not from the U.K., then don’t plan on entering because this is strictly for those who live across the pond. (Sorry.) But, like previous years, the concerts will be filmed and streamed online by Apple with fans getting a chance to watch the performances from their computers, iPhones, iPads and iPod touch device or through Apple TV. Apple is attempting to broadcast the shows, live, to more than 100 countries.

The legendary Blondie, Robert Plant, Beck, Kasabian have all been confirmed to be headlining at some point during the month-long event.

Maroon 5 Release New Single, “Maps”

image

Recently, Maroon 5 has become nothing more than the Adam Levine show with the frontman becoming one of the judges on NBC’s hit singing competition show, The Voice and all his solo stuff.  But now, it looks like the band is coming back together.

Last month, news broke that Maroon 5 would be releasing new material later this year; their fifth album which fittingly enough will be titled V, the follow-up to 2012’s Overexposed.

Yesterday afternoon, the first single from the upcoming record, “Maps” was released. During an interview with Ryan Seacrest, the frontman revealed that he is both excited, but nervous about the new song.

“Here’s the deal, I’m so excited about this album. Mostly, because I think that what we always do with every record…it’s kind of everything we’ve ever done as a band, musically. It’s kind of all those things on this album. It’s what we used to sound like, it’s what we sound like now, it’s what we want to sound like tomorrow. It’s all those elements, all combined to make one, I think, really great album.”

Levine also went on to confirm the presence of a special guest on the new record; fellow The Voice judge and No Doubt frontwoman, Gwen Stefani.

“I wanted it to be a surprise, but she is,” he revealed.

V is set to be released on September 2 through Interscope Records. No word yet, on if they will be able to head out on a full tour, since Levine is due back to his big, spinning red chair this Fall.

Billboard Award Nominees Revealed

bbma-taylor-swift-rihanna-one-drection-adam-levine-650-430

Last month, we were given word that some of pop music’s biggest stars would be gracing the stage at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the annual Billboard Awards.

Today, the people behind the show have announced the nominees for the categories and in what might be a first; there’s a three-way tie for who has the most nominations for this year’s awards. Maroon 5, fun. and Taylor Swift have each become finalists in 11 of the categories.

Right behind them are Rihanna with 10, Carly Rae Jepsen with nine and One Direction with eight (cue all the One Directioners tears). But the fun doesn’t stop there; Swift, Maroon 5, Rihanna, One Direction and Justin Bieber have become finalists for the top artist award.

As for album of the year, it looks like another tough race with Adele’s “21” being in the running alongside Mumford and Sons’ “Babel,” Swift’s “Red” and what might not be fair, but totally predictable, One Direction have two albums in this category, “Up All Night” and “Take Me Home.”

The Billboard Awards will air live on May 19th with performances by Bruno Mars, Miguel, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Prince.
