Lollapalooza confirm 2016 lineup, unveil daily lineup

Over the past few weeks, it seemed that everyone was trying to figure out who will be headlining 2016’s Lollapalooza. Since the speculations began, “sources” had confirmed that giants like Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the newly reunited LCD Soundsystem would headline the three-day music festival. On Wednesday (March 23), festival organizers unveiled the complete list for the upcoming summer gig.

As the “sources” leaked, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and LCD Soundsystem will in fact headline the festival’s 25th incarnation, but they will be joined by a slew of other great musicians. Other performers will include J. Cole, Lana Del Rey, Ellie Goulding, Disclosure, Major Lazer, Jane’s Addiction, Haim, The 1975, City and Colour, M83, Halsey, Bloc Party, Saint Motel, Melanie Martinez, The Joy Formidable,The Front Bottoms,Grimes, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Silversun Pickups, MuteMath, Two Door Cinema Club, Big Gram, Foals, Bastille, Miike Snow, and many more

The lineup for the 2016 edition of the festival is so massive, that it looks like after teasing last year, the festival will officially become a four-day event. Instead of beginning on Friday, like it has in the past, the show will now kick-off on Thursday. The four-day festival is set to take place during the weekend of July 28-31 at Chicago’s Grant Park. Tickets for the summer festival will go on sale beginning today at 11 am EST on the festival’s website.

For now, the complete list of acts, as well as the daily lineups, can be seen below.

M83 Announce New Album, Stream New Song

M83’s return just got serious. On Tuesday (March 1), the electronic act announced that their new album will be titled Junk and is set to be released this spring. In addition to the album title and release date, the Anthony Gonzalez-led act premiered the lead single from the track on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show. The new track is titled “Do It, Try It.”

In a press release, Gonzalez had the following to say about the new album and why he chose “junk” as the impending record’s title. “Anything we create today is going to end up being space junk at one point anyway, and I find it really fascinating and scary at the same time – beautiful too in a way. I have this image of pieces of humanity floating in space, lost forever. It also means that nowadays everything goes so fast and everybody is kind of throwing away art in a certain manner. People will listen to an album for instance and just pick a track they like to put on a playlist. They’re not going to take the time to listen to an album anymore because they have to jump on the next thing.”

“Do It, Try It” can be streamed here. Junk is scheduled to be released on April 8 through Mute Records. The track list for the new album as well as M83’s upcoming tour dates can be seen below. Junk is the follow-up to 2011’s much-celebrated Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.

Governors Ball 2016 Lineup Unveiled

The Governors Ball just revealed the complete lineup for the 2016 incarnation of the annual event. On Friday morning (Jan. 8),the New York-based music festival unveiled the complete lineup for the three-day festival. Upon looking at the lineup, it would appear that two Governors Ball veteran performers will be returning to Randall’s Island in June.

The first veteran performer confirmed was Kanye West. The rapper’s last appearance at the festival was three years ago. West’s top-line billing comes hot on the heels of him releasing two new songs, “Real Friends” and “No More Parties” on Friday. The two new tracks will apparently be part of his G.O.O.D Fridays campaign which he recently relaunched.

Much like the rapper, New York’s own The Strokes will also return to the Governors Ball stage this year. The band have reportedly been working on a new album, the follow-up to 2013’s lukewarm-received album, Comedown Machine. The Strokes last played Gov Ball two years.

In a crazy, or maybe a major PR stunt, Beck will also headline the event. As most of us remember from last year’s Grammy’s, West’s encounter with Beck was not exactly a love affair, even if the rapper did apologize for his stunt. We assume all the backlash he received help that apology come materialize. Hopefully, the stunt will remain in 2015, like many other things.

Also slated to make the journey to New York that weekend will be The Killers, who are in the early stages of writing new material; M83, who will return after a two-year performance hiatus; Death Cab for Cutie; CHVRCHES; Big Grams (Big Boi and Phantogram); De La Soul; Against Me!; and many more. The official poster with all the artists can be seen below.

Governors Ball will celebrate its sixth year during the weekend of June 3-5. The three-day festival will once again return to its home of Randall’s Island Park. Three-day general admission and VIP passes are currently available on the festival’s website.

Coachella 2016 Lineup Unveiled

image

It’s official, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has unveiled its lineup for 2016. After what felt like weeks of rumors, festival organizers finally confirmed that Guns ‘N’ Roses will in fact be one of the headliners for the spring festival. Last week, the rumors of GNR’s role at the upcoming festival hit an all time high when sources confirmed to Billboard that not only were GNR planning a return with a massive stadium tour, but they would be headlining Coachella.

On Monday evening (Jan. 4), Coachella organizers posted the complete lineup for the two weekend-long festival. In addition to GNR’s reunion, LCD Soundsystem has also been confirmed as a headliner. Talk of LCD Soundsystem’s involvement, much like Guns ‘N’ Roses’, began as numerous rumors on the internet before it became official. Now, after a five-year hiatus, the James Murphy-led group will be returning to the stage. But, Guns ‘N’ Roses and LCD Soundsystem aren’t the only ones making a return at the show.

Coachella 2016 will mark the first time in two years that French electo-act M83 will perform live on a stage while pop star Sia’s  appearance at the music festival will mark the first time in five years that she has performed on a live stage in the United States. Other acts slated to perform at Coachella include: Disclosure, CHVRCHES, Hasley, Grimes, Silversun Pickups, The 1975, Rancid, The Front Bottoms, Of Monsters and Men, Purity Ring, Robert DeLong, Zella Day, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Matt and Kim, Cold War Kids, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, and many more. Check out the official poster below.

Coachella 2016 will once again return to the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, CA. The festival will take place during the course two weekends in April; April 15-17 and April 22-24. Festival passes will go on sale beginning this Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m., PST. According to Coachella’s official website, general admission passes for the first weekend are already sold out, following their early bird sale last summer. M83 to Reissue ‘Saturdays = Youth,’ Announce New Music

M83 will be reissuing a slew of their previous album later this month. The French electronic act revealed their plans to released a remixed version of their 2008 album, Saturdays = Youth. The album will be titled Saturdays = Youth Remixes and B Sides and will feature a couple of songs remixed by different artists.

But Saturdays = Youth is the only record of theirs to be remixed and re-released; they also revealed that its 2007 predecessor, Digital Shades, will also be reissued on Nov. 20. In addition to the announcement about the remixes, M83 also unveiled in a press release that they are currently working on a new album that will be getting a 2016 release date. Check out the track list for the Saturdays = Youth reissue below.

Saturdays = Youth Remixes and B Sides track list:

1. “Couleurs” (Jori Hulkkonnen Remix)
2. “Graveyard Girl” (Yuksek Remix)
3. “Graveyard Girl” (Parkerlab’s Dusted Remix)
4.”We Own The Sky” (Maps Remix)
5. “Kim and Jessie” (DatA Remix)
6. “Kim and Jessie” (Montag Remix)
7. “Je Vous Hais Petites Filles”

The reissuing of past albums has become a trend with M83. Last year, the group reissued 2001’s M83, 2004’s Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts, and 2005’s Before the Dawn Heals Us. Their last new album was 2011’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. Since then, frontman Anthony Gonzalez has kept busy contributing songs to soundtracks including 2013’s Oblivion, 2014’s The Fault in Our Stars, and 2015’s The Divergent Series: Insurgent.

M83 Release New Song for Film Soundtrack

m83-young-and-the-night

M83’s Anthony Gonzalez is quickly becoming the go to man for soundtracks, apparently, because the French producer released a message on the group’s Facebook page revealing that the band, mostly Gonzalez we assume, will be working on another soundtrack.

The message on Facebook simply read, “This score is really for lovers and ghosts” alongside a picture of a couple in front of the moon. Since the original post was made, it has been edited to include a link to the band’s website and information about the song.

The name of the song is “Ali & Matthias” and will be featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming film, You and the Night. The film’s soundtrack marks the second time this year that he has worked on the original music for a film. Earlier this year, he contributed original music for the soundtrack of Tom Cruise’s Oblivion

While not much is known about the movie in itself, we can confirm that the film is the first feature-length film from his brother, Yann Gonzalez. Thanks in part to IMDB, we can also get an idea of what the film is about:

“Around midnight, a young couple and their transvestite maid prepare for an orgy. Their guests will be The Slut, The Star, The Stud and The Teen.”

Interesting, no?

Gonzalez also said in a message on the group’s official website that the soundtrack plays tribute to “French soundtracks from the 70′s and is much more intimate than Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and the Oblivion Soundtrack.”

Give the lead song a listen and tell us if Anthony does what he hoped to with the soundtrack.

You And The Night will be available digitally November 19th. A physical release is scheduled for 2014 and the trailer for the film can be seen here.
