Janelle Monae and M.I.A. Perform Together Via Holograms

janellemonaemia

Janelle Monae and M.I.A. took to the stage last night to perform a duet, but before you that it’s just some ordinary duet with two performers on a stage together, you would be wrong.

Leave it to Monae and M.I.A. to share a stage during separate concerts on opposite coasts through the magic of holograms. The advance technology which is similar to the one that brought Tupac back from the dead during Coachella 2012, was used during unique set. The idea was all sponsored by Audi as a way to launch its A3 model.

Unlike Tupac’s hologram, this project required more advanced 3-D projection and video mapping technology. Reportedly, the two artists performed together in person to help create the holograms, but did not get to see the final outcome until they took the stage, at their respected locations, that night.

“I wish I were in the audience because I’m sure it looked cooler from the audience, but it felt great,” Monae said after closing her 40-minute set. “I felt M.I.A.’s spirit up there.”

The Sri Lankan rapper’s hologram appeared during the performance of Monae’s lead single “Q.U.E.E.N.” from her recently released album, Electric Lady. Across the country, M.I.A. was joined on stage by Monae’s hologram during her song, “Bad Girls” where the hologram ‘sang’ a verse from the track.

NFL Hits MIA for Additional Retribution

mia

It’s been months since we last heard anything about the lawsuit the National Football League has hit Sri-Lankan rapper M.I.A. with, but it looks like things are getting even more heated.

The rapper appeared during Madonna’s Super Bowl XLVI Half-Time Show back on Feb. 5, 2012 for the Material Girl’s song “Give Me All Your Luvin.'” During the song, M.I.A. flipped off the camera which sent the football association into a tailspin.

In the custom of Super Bowl half-time performers, she was not paid to perform the song at football’s biggest night, but that did not stop the NFL from demanding $1.5 million for allegedly breaching her performance contract and tarnishing its goodwill and reputation.

Now, the NFL is demanding that she pay back an additional $15.1 million more in “restitution” because that would be the alleged value of public exposure she received by appearing on the show for about two minutes. Reportedly, the NFL came up with that figure by basing it on what advertisers would have paid for an ad to run during that time slot.

“The claim for restitution lacks any basis in law, fact, or logic,” M.I.A. said in papers she filed on Friday. She adds that the “continued pursuit of this proceeding is transparently an exercise by the NFL intended solely to bully and make an example of Respondents for daring to challenge NFL.”

Since the original lawsuit was filed, M.I.A.’s attorney, Howard King, has been on a witch hunt, trying to discredit as many people involved in the NFL by proving that not all of them adhere to the “wholesome” nature that they are trying to protect. King even launched an email for anyone to submit information about these people; he claims it’s to “balance the field.”

As for M.I.A., we see her dragging out this suit until the NFL let’s it go.

M.I.A. Releases New Song

mia

M.I.A is back with a brand new song, just don’t let the name of the a song trick you into thinking it’s some sort of lovey-dovey ballad; come on, you know she doesn’t go that way.

The new song which ironically is named, “Only 1 U” doesn’t sound like what you expect from a song with that titled, instead the rapper, who is known for not sugar-coating anything, goes off in the song attacking everything from the financial systems with “It’s not me and you / It’s the fucking banks” and even says that she’s more “jiggy than Will” whatever that means.

The song premiered on DJ Ital’s London radio show “Open Deck,” but now can be heard below thanks to someone who ripped it straight from the radio.

Oh and another thing M.I.A. issued instructions on how and where to play it. “Keep away from LAP TOPS play in #REALSPEAKERS #LOUD. in direct sun light or in a dingy room #BASS on #dingdingding.”

Just last week, M.I.A. released a music video for another new song, “Bring the Noise,” the first single off of Matangi. The album isn’t available for pre-order quite yet, but you can buy “Bring the Noise” from iTunes now until the full album hits shelves.
