5 Seconds of Summer share acoustic version of ‘Lie to Me’

Two surprise releases in two weeks? It looks like the guys of 5 Seconds of Summer are trying to get on their fans’ good side, though it doesn’t really take much. On Friday (Feb. 1), the Australian band released the acoustic version of their latest single, “Lie to Me.”

The over three-minute clip for the acoustic song features the four-piece performing the song outdoors while the sun sets beautifully behind them. It’s definitely a sight to see (and we’re not just talking about the sunset). Watch the video for the acoustic version of “Lie to Me” above.

“Lie to Me” joins previously released singles “Want You Back,” “Youngblood,” and “Valentine” on the quartet’s recently released record, Youngblood. The album, the band’s third studio effort, was released in June of 2018.

The record peaked at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart earning them their third number one album right behind 2014’s self-titled and 2015’s Sounds Good Feels Good.

Earlier this week, the band posted images on social media indicating that they had returned to the recording studio. As per their posts, it looks like they’re already working on the follow-up to Youngblood.

“Recording Luke vocals the other day with Linus & the band,” wrote drummer Ashton Irwin on Twitter.

“I love making music with these boys. Lots of special new partnerships on this new record we are making.”

5 Seconds of Summer drop video for ‘Lie to Me’

After having fans wait months for their latest music video, 5 Seconds of Summer have come through. On Friday (Jan. 18), the Australian band released the music video for their latest single, “Lie to Me.” The clip for the song finds the four-piece mulling over heartbreak while seated in an abandoned race track at night.

The three-minute video finds frontman Luke Hemmings as the sole member of the band seated in a beat-up race car in the middle of the track, while the rest of the guys (guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin) are seated on the bleachers surrounding the track. As previously teased in the lyric video for the song, the video ends with a race car —the number 96 painted on it— exploding.

Earlier this month, the group unleashed an exclusive redone version of “Lie to Me.” The re-recorded version of the song included guest vocals by singer-songwriter Julia Michaels. That version of “Lie to Me” can be found here.
