Female Artists Come Together for School of Doodle

When we think of girl power, the first image that might come to mind are women fighting for equal rights because there should be equality for all women (and people in general).

But, what happens when you take some of the most powerful women from the rock world and get them together for a worthy cause? You get those women raising funds to help give girls a chance to excel in the arts.

Last week, a Kickstarter campaign was launched for School of Doodle, a new online high school for girls that seek to “activate girls’ imaginations through entertainment, education, and community.”

And the list of musicians who are involved will blow your mind. Courtney Love, Kim Gordon (formerly of  Sonic Youth), Yoko Ono, Sia, Cat Power, and Pussy Riot. Visual artist Jenny Holzer and actress Natasha Lyone have also been enlisted to help with the campaign.

The project seeks to raise $75,000 and to do so, they will be selling a collection of doodles and drawings by the musicians as well as other female artists and thinkers. The book is currently available with a $50 donation to the campaign.

“We are very specific in using the word ‘imagination’ and not ‘creativity,'” campaign creator Molly Logan said in an email sent to MTV about the project.

“We find that people interpret creativity as tied to art or learned skills while they all agree that imagination is something everyone has and takes many forms. Lessons will not be restricted to art and the development of the curriculum will be driven by our Doodle community and our teen board of directors.”

At present time, the campaign has raised $47,706 with 26 days left. If everything goes according to plan and the donation goals are met, the school will be opened by late 2014.

The Dangerous Summer Release Statement About Kickstarter Funds

dangeroussummer

Fans of the Dangerous Summer thought that back in 2012, it would be a great way to show support for the band by donating money to their Kickstarter campaign. The campaign was to raise $14,000 to fund a documentary in April of 2012, but not it’s 2014 and those fans have not seen the release of the DVD, or at least the official version of it.

Property of Zack had managed to get their hands on some of the “lost” footage from the documentary, but other than that, there has been nothing. Today, the band or more like guitarist Cody Payne, have finally felt the fire from the fans and have released a statement about the footage and the DVD.

The full statement from Payne can be read below:

“Sorry for letting you all down, this is 100% my fault and I understand the hate, disappointment and speculation. Just please try and understand how hard it is making a DVD when you have never done it and there were a lot of things that went unaccounted for when planning this thing.

This is not something we can simply refund as the money raised was used to make the DVD which the original version (which we personally were not satisfied with and wanted to redo) has been released in segments online at http://vimeo.com/jmvisuals and if you would like to listen to the hour long concert it is available at https://www.mediafire.com/folder/4sdc6i5a5ls7o/TDS I have learned that some people do not have any appreciation for artistic integrity and are simply consumers with needy hands.

Due to all the complaints we are just going to be releasing the original version. Most of the prizes, especially the more expensive ones have been fulfilled and more will continue to be fulfilled as I can come up with the funds out of my personal wallet. This may take some time but this is my fault and im going to have to take responsibility. once again sorry for letting you down,

Cody Payne”

From First to Last Announce Reunion and Kickstarter Campaign

ftl

Looks like From First to Last are in fact reuniting to release a new album. Last week, the band had released a message that something was brewing with them. At the time, the number one prediction was they would be reuniting and it looks like fans were right on the money.

Today, the reunited group released a statement where they explain that they had been working on some new songs and that they would be starting a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their new album. The full statement along with the video they posted can be seen below.

Over the last 4 years since we announced our hiatus, there have always been people asking me when the band is going to come back and release new material. What I didn’t realize until not long ago is that the amount of people asking has been growing significantly each year. All of us have been off doing other things, musical and non-musical, but this is the time. I have reached out to the members of the band, and have heard back from many. What is to come from here is something that no one knows, but I do know this: With your support, an AMAZING record is about to be made. The rest of the guys and I are excited to do something completely and utterly awesome, now more than ever. My goal is to walk away from this thing knowing that I just made the record of my life.

This record will contain 6 – 7 songs and will feature friends, old and new. I, for one, am ready to make some music that sounds like dragons spitting fire all over godzilla, if you know what I mean! I plan on this being the most epic From First To Last record ever made!

So, if you decide to contribute to this Kickstarter, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for making our dreams possible, for allowing me to create music for over 10 years now, and for showing your love and support through all the ups and downs of this band. I promise, we WILL NOT let you down.

-Matt and FFTL

Now, before we get completely overjoyed about FFTL coming back together, we do have to warn you that there has been no word on whether Sonny Moore, or shall we say Skrillex, will be returning to the line-up, even if just for a little while.

‘Veronica Mars’ Movie Trailer

Veronica Mars

After raising the $2 million to make the Veronica Mars movie, the cast and crew revealed yesterday during their Comic-Con panel, the three-minute trailer for the highly anticipated follow-up for the “gone too soon” pop culture television show.

At Comic-Con, thousands of fans slept ont he street in order to secure them a spot inside of the ballroom where creator, Rob Thomas and the cast which included Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, Enrico Colantoni and more, answered questions about the movie as well as giving fans the official first trailer.

Instead of boring you with what the trailer is about, we will tell you just to fast forward to the three-minute mark for the movie footage or watch the whole thing which includes the cast and crew talking about the show and how Kickstarter helped the dream become a reality.

So what do you think fellow Marshmallows, are we ready?!

Veronica Mars is Back

Veronica Mars

UPDATE:

In less than 24 hours, the Veronica Mars Movie has officially met the $2 million dollar goal that was set by Warner Brothers to finance the movie.

VM Goal

Dear CW, does this prove to you that you shouldn’t have killed the series for one of your super crappy replacements?

—————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The year was 2007 when The CW decided that it would be best to cancel their hit show, Veronica Mars to make space for shows like America’s Next Top Model and others that people probably don’t even remember. While back then the network got their way, to the dismay of “marshmallows” around the world, but it looks like the fans behind the pop culture hit are getting the last laugh.

After years of rumors and speculation of a possible movie to end the series the right way, it was finally confirmed by Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell and creator of the series, Rob Thomas, on Twitter that there will be a movie. The catch? Warner Brothers said that if they could come up with $2 million for production then they would take responsibility for all the press and promotion for the film.

Thomas decided to start a Kickstarter page where fans could help by donating any amount money that they could to help support. Thomas said that once the goal has been met that they would instantly start pre-production, meaning filming will start this Summer and make it in time for a 2014 release date.

The Kickstarter page also has a message from Bell who has also been updating fans all day via her Twitter about the campaign.

She writes on the page:

“I am currently the happiest blonde in a hamster ball the world has ever seen. We have been waiting so long to make this movie dream a movie reality, and it’s because of YOUR commitment, YOUR persistence, that we finally have a chance.”

She continues, “we just have one more step to go. You have banded together like the sassy little honey badgers you are and made this possibility happen. I promise if we hit our goal, we will make the sleuthiest, snarkiest, it’s-all-fun-and-games-‘til-one-of-you-gets-my-foot-up-your-ass movie we possibly can.”

If you are a fellow marshmallow and want to donate to “The Veronica Mars Movie” Campaign, head over here to do so.

So far, the campaign has raised over $900,000. So Warner Bros, get your stuff ready, it’s go time.
