Governors Ball 2016 Lineup Unveiled

The Governors Ball just revealed the complete lineup for the 2016 incarnation of the annual event. On Friday morning (Jan. 8),the New York-based music festival unveiled the complete lineup for the three-day festival. Upon looking at the lineup, it would appear that two Governors Ball veteran performers will be returning to Randall’s Island in June.

The first veteran performer confirmed was Kanye West. The rapper’s last appearance at the festival was three years ago. West’s top-line billing comes hot on the heels of him releasing two new songs, “Real Friends” and “No More Parties” on Friday. The two new tracks will apparently be part of his G.O.O.D Fridays campaign which he recently relaunched.

Much like the rapper, New York’s own The Strokes will also return to the Governors Ball stage this year. The band have reportedly been working on a new album, the follow-up to 2013’s lukewarm-received album, Comedown Machine. The Strokes last played Gov Ball two years.

In a crazy, or maybe a major PR stunt, Beck will also headline the event. As most of us remember from last year’s Grammy’s, West’s encounter with Beck was not exactly a love affair, even if the rapper did apologize for his stunt. We assume all the backlash he received help that apology come materialize. Hopefully, the stunt will remain in 2015, like many other things.

Also slated to make the journey to New York that weekend will be The Killers, who are in the early stages of writing new material; M83, who will return after a two-year performance hiatus; Death Cab for Cutie; CHVRCHES; Big Grams (Big Boi and Phantogram); De La Soul; Against Me!; and many more. The official poster with all the artists can be seen below.

Garbage Frontwoman Calls Out Kanye West’s Grammy “Disrespect”

Kanye West’s attempt to re-do his “Imma let you finish” from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards was at first believed to be a joke, but the rapper soon made people realize that he doesn’t have a single funny bone in his body and did it just to spite the true winner of “Album of the Year.” Because, you know, if Kanye doesn’t like it, everyone else doesn’t like it either.

Do we need anymore proof that he’s “America’s Biggest Douchebag”?

For the most part, the vast majority of people have taken a stance against West and his immature antics, but artists and musicians a like have been rather mum about the attack on artistry and the fact that a man who plays a lot of instruments, sings, and writes his own music is not an artist (as opposed to a guy who just press play and auto-tunes everything).

One musician who definitely went on the defensive, not allowing people to just claim “it’s Kanye just being Kanye,” is Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson.

Manson, who with her group have earned seven Grammy nominations, took to Facebook to publish and open letter directed at West and his lack of a conscience and ego the size of the planet.

“Dear Kanye West,

It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry. You disrespect your own remarkable talents and most importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK.

You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt.

In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own.

Grow up and stop throwing your toys around. You are making yourself look like a complete twat.

PS I’m pretty certain Beyoncé doesn’t need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she’s got everything covered perfectly well on her own.”

And we agree.

Bonnaroo Reveal 2014 Schedule

image

It’s that time again; more schedule unveilings from upcoming Summer festivals.

Today, the people behind Bonnaroo have unveiled the full schedule for the festival that is slated to take place this June in Manchester, TN. Kanye West, Elton John, Skrillex, Jack White, and Frank Ocean have been revealed as headliners for this year’s edition of the yearly festival as well as Vampire Weekend, Mastodon, Phoenix and many more.

For those of you who are wondering whatever happened to that feud between West and the people behind the festival, it turns out that his popularity might have led to their decision to put the “squid brain” comment to rest.

Organizers also revealed that Flaming Lips frontman, Wayne Coyne got to choose two unknown bands to not only perform at the large music event, but they will also get paid to do so. Can you say fairy godfather?

Sadly, like with many music festivals, there are some overlapping acts which means you will need to plan your schedule according to get the best out of all the acts taking the stage. Or, you can be like those people who stay glued to one stage the entire day waiting for just one artist; we don’t judge here.

Check out the full schedule here and don’t forget, Bonnaroo takes place at the Great Stage Park in Manchester during the weekend of June 12 to June 15.

James Franco and Seth Rogen Recreate Kanye West Video

BOUND-FRANCO-ROGEN

We don’t like speaking about those K-people here, but something funny involving the one who launched them into fame and their counterpart, Kanye West happened today.

A few weeks ago, Kanye released a video for “Bound 2” which feature him riding a motorcycle and his baby-mama/fiancée, Kim Kardashian riding, naked, on the front of it. Fast forward a few weeks later and two clowns decided to remake the music video for the enjoyment of their fans and pretty much everyone else.

Now who are those two clowns that spoofed on Yeezus‘ video you might ask? Well, leave it our favorite Renaissance man, James Franco and Seth Rogen.

This morning, the video hit the web after Franco posted the video along with the following message attached, “While on the set of their movie, The Interview, James Franco & Seth Rogen felt inspired to recreate their favorite new video. Shot. For. Shot.”

And that they did. Franco took on the role of West while a very hairy Rogen took on the role of Kardashian in the parody. Believe us they definitely did stick to their “shot for shot” goal.

Instead of reading about how funny the video is, watch the Pineapple Express co-star cover Kanye better than Kanye.

Kanye West to Head on Tour

kanyewestnewpromo-copy-300x242

West announced that he will, in fact be heading out on a North American tour starting in mid-October in support of his recently released album. This will be the rapper’s first solo tour in five-year, at least that’s what the tour poster says.

Justin Timberlake and Kanye West Make Up

justin-timberlake-grammy-awards-2013

Remember back in February when Kanye West took a shot at Justin Timberlake during a show in  London’s Hammersmith Apollo?

Yeah, well we almost forgot about it too until we remember what West had said to his crowd of followers. To this day, the assumption might be that ‘Yeezus’ was jealous that his best friend, Jay-Z was trading him in for Timberlake which led to him saying, “”I got love for Hov, but I ain’t fucking with that ‘Suit & Tie’.”

Cue the one person feud that was forgotten until today when Timberlake brought it back into the public’s knowledge.

In an interview with MTV reporter, Sway on In the Morning, Timberlake commented on what the rapper had said, and that it really didn’t bother him much. “At the end of the day it’s just music,” he said. “I love the record, I love ‘Suit & Tie’. It reminds me of the music I grew up listening to. I respect his opinion because I think he’s a genius, but I don’t share that opinion.”

While the “feud” did got into a black hole of oblivion to the world, Timberlake said that the two of them  settled their difference at the MTV Video Music Awards last week where West performed “Blood on the Leaves” and Timberlake performed a medley of his songs as well as accepted a couple of awards including the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Awards.

“I told [Kanye], ‘I fuck with you, in a way that you probably don’t even understand. I get what you do.’ We’ve never worked together, so I don’t think that he fully understands what it is that I can do. I love ‘Yeezus’, I love that album. I think he’s ahead of a lot, especially in his genre. I think people are going to appreciate it a lot more in the future.”

As if simply making up wasn’t enough, Timberlake did make a comment that there might be some collaborating in the future. Well, the best way I know how to do that is for us to just sit down and play music.”

So can anyone see a collaboration going on between these two? I don’t know.
