The Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine, Carole King and more announced as 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees

Ladies, gents, and rockers of all ages, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2021 finalists have been announced!

The Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Rage Against the Machine, Carole King, Chaka Khan, Iron Maiden, Tina Turner, and the Go-Go’s are just some of the artists who may be inducted into Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame come the fall.

Out of the 16 artists who made it to the final stage, seven are first-time nominees. Those artists include Jay-Z, the Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, The Go-Go’s, Fela Kuti, Dionne Warwick, and Carole King (as a performer).

For some musicians on the list, they have been here once (or several times) before.

This is the sixth time LL Cool J has appeared on the ballot; the third time for Todd Rundgren, Rage Against the Machine, and Chaka Khan; and the second time for Kate Bush. Devo, Carole King, and the New York Dolls.

If the Foo Fighters make it to the end, this will mark the second time Dave Grohl will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He joined the exclusive club as part of Nirvana in 2014.

Grohl is in good company with others who may get the chance to get inducted twice under different acts. King was inaugurated in 1990 as a songwriter alongside Gerry Goffin, while Turner joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 alongside Ike Turner as half of the act Ike and Tine Turner.

For an artist to be eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, their first recording must have been released at least 25 years ago.

From now until April 30, fans can cast their vote in the fan-cast category here.

The Class of 2021 will be announced in May, with the official ceremony taking place in the fall.

5 Seconds of Summer Perform Fall Inspired Parodies of blink-182, Jay-Z

wpid-5_seconds_of_summer_2014.jpeg

5 Seconds of Summer have quickly become one of those bands that you either like or you don’t, much like their tour mates One Direction.

But, while you might think they are the “worst band in the world” at the moment and their music makes you “want to kill yourself,” they don’t seem to mind since they are probably laughing their way to the bank at the moment. (At least they don’t steal other people’s music and pass it off as their own.)

During their appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the Australian boys performed parodies of several songs, replacing the original lyrics with lyrics about everyone’s favorite season, Fall. Much thanks should go to Twitters user who contributed to the lyrics of the songs.

Check out the video below as they transform songs like blink-182’s “All the Small Things,” Jay-Z’s “99 Problems,” Nelly’s “Hot in Here,” and even their own hit, “She Looks So Perfect.” Got to have a sense of humor if you’re going to be some people’s latest punching bag.

Check out the video below.

While on the show, they also performed their new single, “Good Girls” from their self-titled debut album which was released back in July.

Watch No Doubt and Sting Perform “Message in a Bottle”

It’s been a couple of years since No Doubt have been on the stage together, but the band hit the stage last night at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City.

For their encore, the band were joined on stage by Sting to perform his song, “Message in a Bottle.”

The special performance wasn’t so much of a surprise considering that earlier in the week, it was revealed Sting would be hitting the stage with the California band, but that was all that was announced.

Check out the video of the performance.

No Doubt and Sting were just some of the acts that performed at the third annual Global Citizen Festival. Also taking the stage were power-couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé who teamed up for Jay-Z’s “Holy Grail,”  like they did during the “On the Run” Tour with Beyoncé filling in on Justin Timberlake’s parts, and “Forever Young.”

The Roots, fun., Alicia Keys, and Tiesto also performed at the festival is sponsored by the Global Citizen movement, an initiative of the Global Poverty Project, which works to end extreme poverty by 2030.

The goal of the festival is to raise awareness and promote activism to end poverty. This year, Global Citizen is striving for commitments in vaccines, education and sanitation.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Release Pre-“On The Run” Short Film

image

With rumors of infidelity, pregnancy, and we can’t forget that now famous elevator video, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have had one headline worthy and packed summer which also included that little “On the Run” Tour which is where talks of a potential break-up stemmed from.

Like it was reported months ago, the power couple had decided to film their Paris shows at the Stade de France this past weekend (Sept. 12 and 13) for an HBO special titled, On the Run: Beyoncé and Jay-Z. In conjunction with the special which is slated to premiere this Saturday, Sept. 20, the duo have teamed up with director Dikayl Rimmasch to release a series of cinematic short films.

The three-part series is titled Bang Bang (not to be confused with the Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj collaboration) and heavily draws inspiration from Bonnie and Clyde. The series portrays the performers as the famed outlaws which we all know the two like since their first collaboration was called “’03 Bonnie and Clyde” and their tour was named “On the Run.”

In an interview Rimmasch expressed what the couple were trying to portray int eh video saying, “We’re not trying to do this literally, it’s not that we’re Bonnie and Clyde. We’re on the run from everything. On the run from becoming a cliche. On the run from doing the same thing again.”

But when you’re banking as much as you are for these shows, it’s kind of hard to do the same thing again.

‘On the Run’ Tour to Air on HBO

image

Weren’t able to get ticket to the mega tour that is Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s “On the Run” Tour?

Don’t worry, because it looks like HBO has gotten the rights to air the full concert in a special for the cable network.

On the Run Tour: Beyoncé and Jay-Z will feature up to 40 songs recorded during the power couple’s September 12 and 13  shows at Paris’ Stade de France. With the knowledge that we have of the setlists from the previous “On the Run” stops, songs such as “Drunk in Love,” “Holy Grail” (with Beyoncé filling in for Justin Timberlake), a “Partition” remix by HOV, and a tribute to Michael Jackson will, most likely, be included.

“This is a major musical event that belongs on HBO,” said HBO’s President of Programming, Michael Lombard. “It’s going to be a night to remember.”

In the past, HBO has had a good relationship with the Carters and specials concerning them. The network previously debuted Jay-Z’s video for “Picasso Baby” and aired Beyoncé’s Life is But a Dream documentary. The cable network has also scored a 10-episode series which chronicles the pop star’s 2013 “The Mrs. Carter Show” world tour titled, Beyoncé: X10.

The “On the Run” Tour became one of the most anticipated tours for the Summer with only 13 tour dates which kicked off at the end of June at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

Though the special is not scheduled to air until September, it’s something for fans of the power-couple to look forward to if they were not fortunate enough to get tickets to the shows.

Beyonce and Jay-Z Go ‘On the Run’ in Miami

tour

A few months ago, we revealed that Beyoncé and Jay-Z would be heading on a joint tour this Summer. the “On the Run” tour kicked off in Miami at Sun Life Stadium.

The powerhouse duo went on to perform a 42-song setlist which included “Holy Grail” which had Beyoncé filling in for Justin Timberlake as well as Jay-Z remixing Beyoncé “Partition” and “Love On Top,”  a tribute to the late Michael Jackson, who passed away five years ago to the day yesterday.

But, when your tour is named “On the Run” how else do you begin your set than with the song that started it all; “03 Bonnie and Clyde.”
All in all, according to the setlist that was provided to us, we can see that the amount of songs that Beyoncé and Jay-Z were evenly divided.

Talk about an understanding relationship.

image

Fall Out Boy has just begun their “MONUMENTOUR” Summer tour with Paramore and New Politics this past week, and we have already begun to get some cool videos from it.

Yesterday, video surfaced of FOB covering Queen’s iconic song, “We Are the Champions” and today, video was released of frontman Patrick Stump and drummer Andy Hurley having a major drum-off to the tunes of, get this, Slayer AND Jay-Z.

Quickly, it seems like these kind of drum-offs will be a major staple of Fall Out Boy’s set during this tour, because video of them doing similar antics during their stop in Mansfield, MA and Hartford, CT has already made its way onto the internet.

Check out the video below and if you haven’t already gotten tickets to an upcoming date of the “MONUMENTOUR,” you might want to reconsider that.

Beyonce’s Sister Reportedly Smacksdown on Jay-Z

smackdown

We all know Jay-Z and Beyoncé are one of music’s biggest and most powerful couples, but that doesn’t mean that their relationships with each other’s families are “flawless.”

TMZ recently acquired video footage which reportedly features HOV, Beyoncé and his sister-in-law/Beyoncé’s younger sister, Solange, with Solange smacking the rapper in an elevator at a Met Gala after party at the Standard Hotel in New York City.

The video features a woman, reportedly Solange, beating a man, reportedly Jay-Z in an elevator. Another woman, presumed to be Beyoncé, stands back and watches as the other female beats on the male. Things could have gotten worse if a bodyguard had not intervened, but that did not stop the female from continuing to kick and attack the man.

The video also shows that the male and the other female did not once try to engage the female, but she still manages to go off on Jay-Z. No comment or confirmations have been made about the reports, but after the incident was apparently recorded, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Solange were photographed leaving the hotel. In the picture (seen above) Solange does not look happy while Beyoncé puts on a smile and Jay-Z is like always.

The hotel have released a statement about the incident, which they has no idea occurred.

“We are shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system and the confidentiality that we count on providing our guests,” the rep told The Grio. “We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity.”

Crazy family members. Sometimes we can do without them.
