‘School of Rock’ Musical to Rock Out on Broadway

The School of Rock is about to take Broadway to school.

Earlier in the day, news had hit that the Jack Black-starring film would be making its way from the big screen onto the brightly lit stages of Broadway.

School of Rock- The Musical is slated to begin its run at the Winter Garden Theatre on Nov. 15, 2015. Though many films have made the transition from the big screen to the stage without any incident, School of Rock has something or rather someone big on their side; Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The famed Broadway producer will be writing the music for the show while Glenn Slater will be taking care of the lyrics. As for the director’s position, Laurence Connor, who is currently behind the “re-imagined revival” of Les Misérables will be taking the position.

But that’s not where all the creative team ends. Three-time Grammy Award winner, Rob Cavallo will be joining Webber, Connor, and Slater. Cavallo has an impressive resume which includes being one of the top-selling record producers around.

If you’ve never heard of Cavallo, he has been albums from Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Goo Goo Dolls, Phil Collins and many more.

School of Rock is a wonderful film, a rock and roll story that transcends the genre with passion and heart,” said Cavallo in a statement.

“To be able to creatively collaborate with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Glenn Slater, Julian Fellowes [writer of the book] and the rest of the team is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I can’t wait to see School of Rock take on a whole new life.”

Officially, the show will open on Dec. 6, 2015. casting for the show will begin in January in cities across the country including Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.

School of Rock tells the story of a down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star named Dewey Finn who takes a job at a prestigious school as a substitute teacher to make ends meet. There, he discovers the musical talents that his students have and help them form a rock band and win the battle of the bands.

Can you believe that it’s been ten years since School of Rock was released?

Well, if you’re like the rest of us, you can’t believe that a decade has passed since the Jack Black starring movie made its way into movie theaters around the US (we would say world, but we aren’t quite sure about that).

For those not familiar with the film, it’s the story of a burnt-out musician, played by Jack Black, who fills in as a substitute teacher in a prep school to make some cash. In the midst of babysitting/teaching the students, he realizes how talented the students are and gets them to form a band so they could try to win a battle of the bands concert.

In honor of the ten years, cast and crew from the film took to Austin for an event where they caught up and performed. Cast members have been sharing photos from the “old” days and the recent gathering including Miranda Cosgrove who shared on her Instagram a picture which was caption,  “10-year ‘School of Rock’ reunion! Sooo good to see everyone.”

But for now, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and tell someone that “they’re tacky and that you hate them” in the process and watch the video here.
