With a week left until the release of their Killers’ sixth studio album, the group is back to give fans one final taste before the full-length is in our hands (or music playing device).
On Friday (Aug. 14), the Las Vegas-founded act unleashed another song from Imploding the Mirage. Titled “Dying Breed,” the four-minute track gives us what we have come to expect from the band; a slow and mellow start, which eventually gives way to their stadium-rock sound.
According to frontman Brandon Flowers, “Dying Breed” contains his “most romantic lyrics to date,” and that’s saying a lot since the band’s last studio album was mostly inspired by Flowers’ wife, Tana.
“I like the idea of where me and my wife have gotten to and where we headed,” Flowers tells NME.
“An overriding theme of this record is asking the question, ‘Can two become one?’ I know it’s old-fashioned, but it’s my life. It’s probably the prettiest or most romantic lyric I’ve ever written.”
He continues: “My favorite line on the record is ‘I’ll be there when water’s rising / I’ll be your lifeguard.’ I feel thankful for that. I want her to know that no matter what, I’m going to stay by her side and keep the promise.”
“Fire in Bone” is the second single off The Killers’ upcoming sixth studio album, Imploding the Mirage. The new album is due out May 29 through the band’s longtime home of Island Records.
The new set of tunes was produced by the band alongside Foxygen’s Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado.
The group released the record’s lead single “Caution” back in March. Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham is featured on the four-and-a-half-minute track.
Hold on tight to your chairs, guys, because the Killers have a slew of news that just may give you whiplash.
On Thursday (March 12), the Las Vegas-founded band officially confirmed the release date for their sixth studio album. Previously revealed to be titled Imploding the Mirage, the new album is due out May 29 through the band’s longtime home of Island Records.
The new set of tunes was produced by the band alongside Foxygen’s Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado.
But that’s not all.
The record will also include guest appearances by k.d. lang, Natalie Mering from Weyes Blood, Adam Granduciel from War on Drugs, Lucius, and former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham who happens to play on the album’s lead single, “Caution.”
Yes. You read that right.
The Killers not only confirmed their new album’s release date but have also dropped its lead single, which features a music legend. Listen to “Caution” above.
To coincide with the song’s release, frontman Brandon Flowers and drummer Ronnie Vannucci spoke with Zane Lowe about the inspiration behind the four-and-a-half-minute tune.
“It’s sort of about having the wherewithal to listen to that angel on your shoulder, even if they’re telling you something that you don’t want to hear,” Flowers reveals in the interview.
“And I think for me with this song was a lot about leaving Las Vegas. I was having this sort of hunch or impression that that was something that I was supposed to do for my family. … And so it was tough for me to leave, and I thought I was able to harness that energy, and there was a sort of…a relief when it happened, and you kind of feel that the spirit in ‘Caution,’ I feel like.”
So what is a band to do after confirming a record release date and unveiling its lead single? Well…announce a massive North American tour, of course! So stock up on hand sanitizers and disinfection wipes.
This summer, the Killers will hit the North American touring circuit for their Imploding the Mirage tour. The almost-four-month outing will find the group performing at venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico (though there’s a quick trip to Australia in between).
Yup. Four months of nonstop shows across the continent.
The Imploding the Mirage North American trek begins on Aug. 18 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The tour concludes several months later on Dec. 4 at the Estadio 3 de Marzo in Zapopan, Mexico.
Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr will open for the Killers throughout the forthcoming tour.

The Killers’ 2020 is going to be (don’t hate us for this) killer.
On Friday (Nov. 15), the Las Vegas-founded band formally announced the release of their new studio effort. Titled Imploding the Mirage, the group’s sixth studio effort will reportedly see a release time frame of spring 2020.
Taking to social media, the four-piece made the formal announcement.
Things began to unravel during the early morning hours when the band posted a message which read “People of Earth.” Considering one of their massive hits is called “Spaceman,” it was a bit of a headscratcher at first.
Several hours after that post, the Killers returned to reveal not only the album’s title but a United Kingdom / Ireland-centric tour for spring 2020.
Fans who pre-order the album by Nov. 19 (at 4 p.m.) will have early access to pre-sale tickets.
Not a bad deal if you live in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
Because all the new album information and tour details weren’t enough, the band left one last set of breadcrumbs for their followers.
“Future musical teasing imminent,” the quartet posted.
Leave it to the Killers to get formal with their new music teasing.
The confirmation of a new record isn’t that much of a surprise. Back in October, the band had posted a list of potential song titles on Instagram. Working titles included “Blowback,” “Party People,” “Spirit of Mystery,” and more.
Imploding the Mirage is the follow-up to 2017’s Wonderful Wonderful.
Earlier this year, the group unleashed their politically charged song “Land of the Free.”
Next weekend, the Killers will take over Fort Lauderdale Beach for the 2019 incarnation of 104.3 the Shark’s Riptide Music Festival. The Killers join The 1975, The Revivalists, Silversun Pickups, Judah & the Lion, Catfish and the Bottleman, and more on the bill.
