Demi Lovato Takes Fans to “Church” with Hozier Cover

While Demi Lovato has become known for her radio-ready pop hits which also have a bit of an edge, sometimes it’s hard to remember that the singer actually has a really good voice, unlike many of the so-called singers that populate many of the radio stations.

On Wednesday, the “Cool for the Summer” singer made an appearance at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge where she performed a couple of songs. While at the lounge, she did a cover of Hozier’s massive hit, “Take Me to Church” proving that when she’s all about the song rather than the over the top performance, she can give anything a little bit of soul.

While speaking to Live Lounge’s Clara Amfo, Lovato admitted her own appreciation for the song that doesn’t seem to fit the top 20 mold, which we admit, we love (and sounded amazing when we saw Hozier live).

“It’s not your typical pop song. I think I even tweeted ‘Thank God somebody put this on the radio because this is incredible music,” Lovato told Amfo.

Check out the video of Lovato’s cover of “Take Me to Church” below and her toned down version of “Cool for the Summer” here.

Lovato’s new album, Confident, which will feature “Cool for the Summer” is set to be released on Oct. 16 through Hollywood Records. Confident is the follow-up to 2013’s Demi.

“This is a great way to see the future of music in one afternoon.”
