Hit the Lights Document Upcoming Boxer’s Life in “Life on the Bottom” Video

image

Hit the Lights released their new album, Summer Bones last month, but the album’s release is not stopping the band from releasing a music video for one of the new tracks.

The band premiered the video for “Life on the Bottom” exclusively on ESPN, though we’ve posted it below.

The video which was directed by Kyle Thrash, follows boxing newcomer Ismael Villarreal as he trains (in a subway train, on a roof, in an alley, and in a ring) for and competes in his first fight at the Golden Gloves Tournament in Brooklyn, NY.

When asked about what inspired the video, vocalist Nick Thompson said:

“We’ve worked with Kyle Thrash so many times that we have complete trust in his ideas and abilities. When he approached us about the idea for a video centered around Ismael, we were totally on board. The song made sense with Ismael’s struggles and it’s great to be able to give him some limelight while we take the back seat!”

Watch the video.

Hit the Lights will be heading out on tour later this Spring on Chunk! No Captain Chunk!’s upcoming “Get Lost, Find Yourself Spring Tour” alongside Forever Came Calling, To The Wind, and In Her Own Words.

Full tour dates for the “Get Lost, Find Yourself Spring Tour” can be found here.

Hit the Lights introduced listeners to the first single off of the upcoming record, “Fucked Up,” back in January. At the time, frontman Nick Thompson said the track was “inspired by the fear older generations tend to have of a younger generation that they can’t understand or relate to.”

Summer Bones is set to be released on Tuesday (March 24) through Pure Noise Records.

But don’t think Hit the Lights won’t be doing anything in the meantime (the band played a few dates of Motion City Soundtrack’s “Commit This to Memory Tenth Anniversary Tour”).

Last week, it was announced they will be joining Forever Came Calling, To The Wind, and In Her Own Words on Chunk! No Captain Chunk!’s upcoming “Get Lost, Find Yourself Spring Tour” set to kick off on May 1 at San Diego’s House of Blues.

Hit the Lights Let Us Know We’re All “F-ed Up Kids”

After hinting to fans that anew song would be released this week, Hit the Lights have come through with their promise.

Today, the released the first single off of their upcoming fourth album, Summer Bones. The new song is titled “Fucked Up Kids” which is currently streaming over at Alternative Press, or you can just go ahead and watch the lyric video for the track below which features live footage of the group performing.

“‘Fucked Up Kids’ is inspired by the fear older generations tend to have of a younger generation that they can’t understand or relate to,” said vocalist Nick Thompson when asked about the inspiration behind the song.

“That same younger generation recycles that fear onto the next and causes these ideological rifts between us. We end up with this weird tug-of-war with each generation claiming the world as their own.  In the end, we’re more alike than we know. We’re all trying to hide our fears, doubts, and problems. We’re all trying to find a place in a world that’s always changing and we should find solace in the fact that we’re all fucked in some way and it’s ok. I feel that people who realize this can find personal freedom in that truth, and comfort in the fact that they aren’t alone, no matter what it seems. It’s dedicated to Rochester, New York for all the great times and amazing people it’s given us.”

Summer Bones will be released on March 24 through Pure Noise Records.

Hit the Lights will be heading out on the road for a few days this weekend, opening for Motion City Soundtrack on their “Commit This to Memory Tenth Anniversary Tour.”
