HIM announces disbandment with farewell tour dates

After a quarter of a century performing on stages together, HIM has announced that 2017 will be their last time. On Sunday (March 5), the Finnish band released a statement to fans, revealing the heartbreaking news for those who have followed them during the course of their 26-year career.

“After quarter of a century of love and metal intertwined, we sincerely feel HIM has run its unnatural course and adieus must be said in order to make way for sights, scents and sounds yet unexplored,” writes frontman Ville Valo in the group’s joint statement to fans. “We completed the pattern, solved the puzzle and turned the key. Thank you.”

Whenever a band decides to disband, there is always a chance that the statement they release is the end. For HIM, the group has decided to give fans one last world tour before putting the band to rest. HIM’s farewell tour will kick off in June and end sometime in December. Currently, the band has only released the dates for the European leg of the tour which will include stops in Spain, Portugal, Russia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Holland, England, and of course their home country to Finland.

“At the end of 2017, we will be released into the wild,” writes bassists Mikko “Mige” Paananen in a press statement. “Before this event of great transformation we would love to offer you one last chance to experience our live performances in His Majesty’s service. It shall not be a weepfest but a celebration of love metal in all its lovecraftian glory!”

While at the moment there doesn’t seem to be any North American stops, the band did confirm that those dates will be revealed in the near future. Tickets for all the shows will go on sale beginning this Wednesday, March 8 at 9 a.m. local time.

HIM’s career has been a lengthy one. The group has released a total of eight studio album as well as six compilations, many of which have gone either gold or platinum. In 2013, the band released their eighth and final album, Tears on Tape via Razor & Tie/Universal Records. For now, the current list of upcoming farewell tour dates can be seen below.
